5.9.2025 -- NLS -- Pope Leo XIV, Biden Stumbles, Trump Surges
On this episode with Neal and Julie, the big story is the historic announcement of a new pope—Pope Leo XIV. Neal shares the moment he first heard the news during a meeting and reflects on the significance of having a pope with American ties, especially someone previously based in Chicago. The discussion explores the political and doctrinal implications of this selection, contrasting Pope Leo with past popes like Francis and John Paul II, and considering whether this could signal a shift back to more traditional Catholic values.
They also delve into broader themes like the intersection of religion and politics, Pope Francis’s controversial legacy, and early speculation on whether Pope Leo will unify or divide the Church. Neal expresses cautious optimism but acknowledges that only time will tell what direction Pope Leo will take.
Beyond the Vatican news, Neal and Julie react to recent clips of President Biden, discussing concerns about his cognitive health and media coverage. They also talk about Trump’s ongoing influence, political dynamics in the Democratic Party, and even sprinkle in lighter topics like local Idaho happenings, lent food temptations, and a quirky story about public access TV gone wrong.
It’s an episode that blends faith, politics, and a touch of humor—all with Neal and Julie’s signature dynamic.

Hello, East Idaho, and welcome to this Friday. We have a new pope. Watched yesterday, which it happened pretty darn quick. We got off the air, of course, at 10:00. Didn't have any indication that a new pope had been selected. And then during our meeting, it was actually our engineer that said, we've got a new pope. And, so I start looking, watching, and, came back after our meeting.
They still had not announced the name, but watched closely because, you know, quite frankly, you think about the, the, the role of the pope. The pope transcends the Catholic Church. They they have so much influence and are so high profile. They truly are a world leader. And so there's a lot of interest, even if you're not Catholic, in, in who is selected.
And I didn't think, just based on my cursory studying of this issue, that we were going to get an American pope, or at least a pope from the United States. And so when they announced and I saw them give the name out, and it wasn't clear because there was a lot of translating going on and you didn't, you had to wait to sort of get get your mind around what was happening.
And he said, Robert. And I'm like, as far as I know, only in America do we use the name Robert, maybe in the UK, but it's not a foreign name, maybe Roberto. But I saw Robert and I'm like, oh, that's interesting. That could be an in, you know, English as a first language pope. And sure enough, Robert Francis Prevost selected.
He's been a cardinal in Latin America, spent a lot of time in, Peru and other places, has learned many languages. He was born in Chicago and has risen up through the ranks. He is being made the Pope, and he is the first one that has originated in the United States of America. So I, I watched this and I thought, and because I'm me and because I do what I do, obviously one of the first questions is, what's the politics here?
And I don't think I asked that question with previous popes when Pope John Paul died back like 20 years ago, and they made Pope Benedict the Pope. That was not my premier question, but it was downstream from Pope Benedict. Was his conservative values. And I always appreciated that. Of course, he didn't stay in that position very long.
I don't know that, if he'll be remembered as the most impactful pope that there's ever been. And then, of course, his health declined. They replaced him with Pope Francis and Pope Francis, largely. Well, I want to be careful how I say this, because I have great Catholic friends, and I don't want them to offend, but I will say, not that he led with his politics, but politics were a much bigger part of his life then I think previous popes had been.
And so being conditioned this way for a number of years now with Pope Francis, who in some issues was socialist and and far left, he he was pro-life, which let's look at both sides of the ledger. There were some issues where he, it was, you know, right on the issues. But, there were there was a lot when it came to economic systems, when it came to borders, when it came to, a whole host of issues and even some gender issues.
He was not a traditional political conservative. So you have that and then, so you're thinking, okay, are we just gonna have liberal popes? Because Francis had a massive impact on the makeup of the body of cardinals in, in the Catholic Church. And I just thought kind of a they sort of run it like it's kind of like the political swings that you see in Congress when Democrats win, Democrats choose more to help Democrat, other Democrats win.
And and there's a momentum there. So when I saw this, my initial reaction was, I'll bet he's a liberal born in Chicago. And how do you not be a liberal born in Chicago, handpicked by, Pope Francis? And so there was a not so much jaded but just a recognition of likelihood. But what we're finding out, and I think that maybe I have no idea what goes on inside the conclave, what thinking there is.
But maybe they thought that Pope Francis, good man, but divisive. And maybe they wanted a pope that wasn't as divisive as Pope Francis to get back to more of the Pope John Paul model and have someone who aligns more closely with Catholic doctrine and and go that direction. And, I at first blush here, and we won't know until it's a year or 2 or 3 into his tenure as pope, what we'll see from him politically.
But I did get this text from one of our listeners, and this is what this listener said. We had a special mass for him yesterday. Our pastor, Father Flores, never mentioned us. Pope, the Holy Spirit guided the boat. Also, it is cool for the USA, but people get their panties in a bunch. He was not a cardinal.
As a cardinal operating in the US that will never likely happen, but he is from Chicago and has been away from the US for ten years. Titles mean things. He was not an archbishop in the US, elevated to cardinal in the US. He was only elevated to cardinal by Francis several years ago when in Rome, I think, and I believe that is that is true.
But at any rate, at first glance here, I'm excited. But I will say this. I'm only talking about the political angle on this because this is a political talk show, and I would hope that the Pope politics runs downstream. And by that I mean, and you know what? Let me just ask you this question are your religious beliefs influenced by your politics, or are your political beliefs influenced by your religion?
And it's probably not one or the other 100%, but I think that it can be more one than the other and think through all of the people you know. You probably know thousands of people, and you could probably identify for me one of each one person who primarily renders their political beliefs through the filter of religion. And then you could name for me another friend or another acquaintance who actually arrives at their religious beliefs based on their politics and that's a very different paradigm.
And it where in what order do you put your filters? Now? I would make the case and I can't make that decision for you, but I would make the case that the proper way is to have your political beliefs downstream from your religious beliefs, because your religion or your faith or spirituality, whatever you want. I think sometimes when you use the word religion, all of a sudden that becomes a a term that people throw out because, you know, religion is buildings, religion is artificial organization or structures.
It's and I think it's what do you believe about God? Let's just put it under that and under that banner. I would hope what you believe about politics is downstream from what you believe about God. Because what you believe about God is your core. That is your creation. It is the your essence. It is who you are. And that's what religion, if it's doing its job, is answering for you.
And I don't know that it gets more core and more fundamental than that. But there are those. We all have met them. We all know who they are, that they have it in reverse. They have prized political beliefs that they attach to. And then downstream from that, if there are religious approaches that fit within that framework, then of course they adopt that.
And I feel like that's a broken way to do it. In my opinion, you're you and I. Me and me says that that's a broken way to do it, that your fundamental questions about your nature and who you are should be answered first. And then from that downstream from that, you answer the questions about what should the public policy be?
What laws should be passed, what political system should we implement and have? And the answer to that should honor the deeper questions that we try to ask and and answer. So my hope is, and I'm not going to characterize Pope Francis one way or the other, but I will tell you on a whole host of issues, I really wasn't thrilled with, with what we were hearing from Pope Francis.
He was very liberal. My hope is that the Pope, whatever political beliefs they hold, is the is far downstream from their belief about God, rooted in the doctrines that they they believe in. So with that, congratulations. And I think that's actually an appropriate word. It's not a party. And it's not. It's more than a celebration. This is a pretty solemn event.
But I hope for Catholics around the world that you are excited on a deeply fundamental level. And I think for, the rest of us who are not Catholic, we are today. And we're excited for you today. As you, get acquainted with a new leader of your faith and one of the most influential and important faiths that we have historically and contemporarily around the world.
So I, I wish the best for Pope Leo. I think that such a cool name, Pope Leo, is going to be fun to say in, in the coming years. And, I look forward to that. We do have other politics to talk about today. Joe Biden was on The View, and I would call this Joe Biden's Legacy salvage tour.
He knows that if something doesn't happen, he will he will take the place of Jimmy Carter in the unenviable, unenviable position of being the history worst US president, or at least among that hall of shame. And he doesn't want that. I don't think Jill wants that. For him. But I think in his effort to salvage his legacy, he's actually securing his legacy.
And that all the project he did, the project, the the benefit. How do you lead the world with having an infrastructure? How do you lead the world without even the best health care know how do you lead the world without having the best education? How do you lead the world when you have that done? How do you lead the world with having an inspection?
Or how do you lead the world having the best out of the best health care? You know, I have no idea what he just said. I think I snagged it. Health care something or other. Right? It right at the end. But he showed up to the view and put on display why his legacy is so bad. That led to why he's going on the view.
You reinforce first what you were trying to stop. And it's very, very sad. Also this he blamed Donald Trump for the border problems of his administration. When you announced that you wouldn't be seeking reelection, only 28% of the country thought that the country was on the right track. Now, you are understandably very proud of many achievements in your administration, but do you take any responsible for running for responsibility, for not hearing the concerns of voters on the border, security or cost of living sooner?
And do you take any responsibility for Trump's reelection? Yes, I do, because, look, I was in charge 81. So, you know, I take responsibility number one. But number two, you know, you remember we put together a commission meeting with one of the most conservative members of United States Senate, Oklahoma, running it. We came up with a significant means by which we can deal with a border.
What? The Trump two he got on the telephone and he called Republicans do not support. It's legal. It'll work. It'll make Biden look good. Don't do it. They backed off and backed off. Okay, that's okay. That narrative doesn't even work anymore. Like, have you ever had a version of windows and you need the upgrade to the windows for your current version, or he's still operating on an old version that's not working now because Donald Trump has secured the border, but without the bill that he's saying that was needed to secure the border, like it has no logical flow whatsoever, because he's not plugging in the reality of today, which is Donald Trump with no fancy
additional border bill passed by Congress, had all the tools that he needed to stop the influx of illegal immigration in this country. So I don't know how that squares with Joe that he, Donald Trump, didn't need that bill to fix the problem. And make no mistake, Donald Trump has fixed the problem. Our country can absorb between 100 and 200 illegal crossings a day.
All right, mate, it'd be great to have it be zero, but we can deal with 100 to 200. We just can't deal with 11,000. Ten, 11, 12,000 a day in. And some days when you had those mad rushes on the border, it was more than that. Trump didn't need the bill. Joe Biden didn't need the bill. They wanted the bill so that they could create some amnesty for the people who are already here because it achieved, political end for them.
Donald Trump did not prevent the solution to immigration. Donald Trump prevented lawlessness. So, it's it's weird that Joe Biden's out there doing this. He didn't even address the issue that Donald Trump has largely fixed the border with the tools that were already in his toolbox. There was also a moment to and I'm not going to play it, but, he was asked about his cognitive decline, and he said, those are not accurate.
And then he said a couple of other things. And then he started, losing his brain and couldn't talk anymore. And then Jill had to take over. So it was just like an instant cell phone where Joe said, no, my, my, my mind is completely good and I'm good, and I'm Jill. What do you think? Help me here.
That's what it felt like when you got done. Look, I, I don't know what's going on on the left. I know they're not acting in unison. I know if you if you had a strong, strong leader in the Democrat Party right now, what you would do is tell you is say, Joe, whatever you do, do not go anywhere where there's a camera, okay?
You're the last person that the Democrats need being public at the moment. All right. It's 825. We're going to take a break. I'll come back and in about 10 to 12 minutes, it's studio four covers a husband and wife band called Idaho Muscle. They're joining us in studio today, and they're actually going to do a, Radiohead and the Hollies mash up.
Looking forward to that here in just a few minutes. On this Friday morning on Newstalk 179. It's coming up on 830. On Newstalk 170, Neil Larson along with Julie Mason Town and Country Garden. Julie, I'm so excited to go down to town and country, grab the tomatoes, grab some, probably grab some soil. I could dig some up from our garden boxes, but I'll probably just grab new soil so it's weed free.
I'll get the pebbles for drainage, the buckets and all the things that I need so I can do actually have some buckets already. But, for my planter tomatoes, I think that might be the the main part of my gardening this year. I'm excited for you. This is going to be great and you pick the best place to go get all of those items.
If I by chance raise some delicious fresh tomatoes, would you take some? Oh, I take them. I would only eat them if I chop them up and put them in something. Though I don't like tomato slices, it's a texture thing for me. I love the taste of tomatoes. I don't like tomato slices. Oh, gotcha. Okay, but if I chop them all up and make fresh salsa or something, I'm all in on that.
Okay, well, that's my plan. That's going to be kind of my thing outside this this weekend and get that done. But you can get that. You can get the four step lawn program. You can get hanging baskets. You can get all the flowers and the vegetables that you need and all of the additional stuff that you might need for it at Town and Country Gardens.
Yeah, I was comparing the greenness of my grass when I was out walking just a couple of days ago to some other lawns. You guys, you got to do it if you want green grass, this is the thing to do. Go get the four step lawn program. Yeah. Isn't there some song the green green Grass of Home or something?
Oh, yes, sir, I think so. All right. That's the anthem for the four step. All right. When we come back, Idaho Muscle will join us. John and Kerry Hare going to play a mash up for us. Radiohead and the Hollies. Yeah, it's an interesting mix. Yeah, it really is. So that's coming up in here in about six minutes.
On Newstalk 179, and we're back at 838 on Newstalk 1078, Neil Larson along with Julie Mason. And on this Friday morning we do studio four covers at this time, and we're very excited to bring into the studio Idaho Muscle, also known as John and Kerry Hare. And good morning. How are you? Bob, both of you, how are you?
We're having, having a great morning, Neil and Phil Idaho Friday. Well, first of all, I just want to thank you. I know you've been promoting your appearance this morning on social media. We've seen several posts, and we're excited when that happened, so. Well, hey, we, we like all things Idaho and Idaho Falls, and we think you guys do a great job, so.
Well, thank you. Appreciate you doing what you do. Tell us about Idaho muscle. Well, a, probably 25 years ago, Kerry and I met over, Napster. We were trading songs back and forth. Okay, next thing you know, Kerry's moving to Idaho and we got married. Well that's great there she came and listened to me play.
And one day, maybe a dozen years ago or so, she says, hey, I really love coming to hear you play. But it would be really fun if I could do something with you. I know nothing about music. Okay? And two months later she was playing bass guitar with me all night long. Really? Oh, It was. It's. Yeah.
Picks it up pretty quick. They picked it up quickly. Yeah, well that's great. Now, how do people find you? I know I'm I'm friends with you on Facebook, so I see your posts and you guys play regularly on, on social media. But if people want you to perform or, or do a gig, how do they reach out to you?
They usually will. Messages on Instagram, Facebook. We've got a Facebook page, Idaho muscle or our individual pages. Okay. We, our next gig will be, up at, Hi-C. Okay. Pizza on the pizza patio, June 7th. We do from about 6 to 9. So come on out, have some pizza, support, a good local business, and, have some fun.
Tell us what you want to hear, because that's what we play. We play what people want to hear. Okay, well, what we're going to hear today is this mash up. Is this mash up you guys created then. Yeah. We did we put this together. It's it's, it's kind of odd because the one songs from the 70s. Yeah, we love the 70s and another song from the 90s, we love that do.
It's when our kids were growing up, and, so we're, we we like that music a lot, too. So that would be a good one to put together. Okay. All right, well, here we have Idaho Muscle John and Kerry Hare performing Creep by Radiohead mashed up with air that I breathe by The Hollies. Take it away okay and let's Do it.
And.
I'm ready.
If I could make a wish, thing. I'm, I can't think of anything I need. When. No cigarets, no sleep, no lie, no sound. Nothing to me. No books to read. Yeah. I'm making love with you. Who's let me be for warm and love. One more good I hear there's nothing left to be desired. Please came upon me and believe me away.
So sleep silent angels go to sleep some time. All I need is the air that I breathe. And the love you. All I need is the air that I breathe. And do love you. When you were here before.
I couldn't look you in the eye. You're just like an angel. Eye is getting make me cry. Cause you flow like a feather. In a beautiful world. I wish I was special. You. Yeah. You're so very special. Yeah. But I'm a greedy.
Woo I'm a little. What the hell am I doing? Hey, yeah. I don't belong here. Because peace came upon me. And it lives me away. So sleep silent angel. You go to sleep some and I'm. All I need is the air that I breathe. And love you. All I need is the air that I'm breathing. And the love you don't care if it hurt.
I want to have control. I want a perfect body. Yeah, I need a perfect soul for you. Yes. I'd like you to notice when I'm not around. Is so very special. Yeah, I do, especially love. But I'm a creep. Yeah, I'm a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here. Yeah, whatever make you happy.
Whatever you want. So very special. Yeah, I wish I was special. Oh, God. Crave. Now I'm a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here? Yeah, I don't belong. Hey. Yeah, I don't belong here.
Idaho. My son John and Carrie here. Thank you both for coming in. Hey. You bet. All right. Good times. Well, good luck to you. It's 846 now on Newstalk 179.
851 on Newstalk 107 eight Neil Larson along with Julie Mason. Again, big thanks to Idaho Muscle coming in and performing on studio four covers this morning. Julie. Yeah, they were awesome. I'm just looking at a headline. Letitia James is saying she's being targeted. Somebody made her lie on those forms. What goes around comes around. Latisha, this is just karma, right?
Yes. But I, I would say she's just being held accountable. Like, these aren't even fab. You don't even have to fabricate anything. No, no. At her. This is a ridiculous push on her part. They purposely made up, charges like they went out of their way. Remember the prosecutor that had a high level job and took a pay decrease and everything to go work with her?
Yeah. Come on. What goes around comes around. Leticia. Yeah, yeah. That's true. And, I would imagine even people who don't have her past are still going to get prosecuted if they lie about stuff. Yes. Residency. How many properties you own? All that. Yeah. Anyway, couldn't happen to a nicer lady. I hope she enjoys her next few months.
Yeah, yeah. Best wishes, Leticia. And. Okay. And they're always victims, right? When they're held accountable, then they're like, it's it's targeting. Yeah. Okay. Howard letting it be. He's the commerce secretary. He was in the Oval Office with the president. And don't pay attention to Trump so much as the laughter in the background. If you don't. And the Democrats are fighting it only because they want to fight, they have Trump derangement syndrome, you know, was somebody else they would fight if you had a normal person.
They had some stiff sitting behind. Yeah, that'd be fun. But yeah, but they have Trump Derangement syndrome. The approach that, you know, Senator Schumer has become a Palestinian Jewish welcome. I don't know when they're going to give him the ceremony, whatever the ceremony may be. It's terrible what's happened to the them. Okay. If you can find the video, watch the video.
Because Latinx reaction he can't contain himself. No, he thinks Trump is the funniest thing ever. Which I will admit, calling Chuck Schumer a Palestinian is pretty funny. That is funny. Calling referencing a stiff. I mean, that's all about Biden. Like, it's just funny. Like, yeah, the little the little digs here in there. Yeah. And it's funny to watch JD Vance because you have Lord whoever who's the ambassador?
Lord Peter somebody. Yeah. Yes, Lord. You got one name further than I did. I can't remember his last name. Anyway, he's the ambassador to the United States for the UK. And then you've got other, other very official people that are kind of buttoned up. And here's Trump saying, and Chuck Schumer is a Palestinian and and Latin IC is losing it like it's the funniest comedian show he's ever watched.
Like arms in the air. Yeah. And I think JD Vance is sort of this buffer between the contrasts because he's kind of going up and his eyes are rolling and he's kind of laughing, which is sort of a ramp down from Latin like it would look really weird anyway. It's just a really awkward moment, but endearingly awkward. And I really like, you know what I really like Julie.
One of the reasons why I like people like coward, like Nick, is I need people around me that have a very low threshold for what's funny, so they will laugh at my jokes. I'll be that for you. Yes. Well, some days you have a really high threshold, but some. Some days it could. But but no. Like, I love having those people around because I'm like, I'm just going to go say something like my daughter every.
So this would happen today. My daughter Emily, growing up, she'd be mad at me or or whatever, and or I needed to cheer her up because she was grumpy or something. So as a dad, I would just look at her and you know, what I would do to make her laugh. And it didn't matter anything else that was going on, it would always make her laugh because I'd look at her and I'd go, whoop!
She just would lose it when she was little. But we just kind of kept doing, kept doing it. As she got older, and every once in a while I still go poop. Dads, it's the little things I know it is. So anyway, that's yeah man. Maybe that'll be my little Nick friend. That's the term I'll use. My let Nick friend is the guy who will laugh at anything and everything you say.
Yeah, yeah. So yeah, I it was a good day. I think that you see Trump having a little bit of a celebratory attitude there. Yeah it's a big day. So he's taking these questions after inking this deal. And you know and he's also headed out on a big trip. So there was double celebration there. And I think you see it in his his kind of jovial remarks that he's giving.
I would also like to point out Biden would have never been able to take questions after giving that announcement. It would've taken everything he would have had to have. He wouldn't have been able to accomplish it. Let's start there. Yeah. How do you accomplish something like this? And he was sitting with Lord Peter and everybody else and taking the phone call from the Prime minister and all of that.
It would have exhausted Biden. He would have stumbled multiple times before that, and they would have had to exit everybody out of the room. But Trump goes on and takes questions for well over a half hour. Well, can I add, even in a greater disparity to this? If Joe Biden were to answer questions, it would take a tremendous amount of prep where he'd be given a card and told, these are the reporters.
You can ask questions of their pictures, what question they're going to ask. And then those reporters were told, we need your questions in advance. Trump will do an ad hoc press conference and just say, do y'all have any questions. And whoever it is, no matter how hostile they are, no matter how hard the question, he'll talk to anybody.
Let's do this. Yes. Yeah, yeah. So it is so relieving Julie. Sometimes even on days when, you know, sometimes Trump has he's had really good days. Pretty good days and then average days. And on the average days I'm like, I just think about Joe Biden being president and how tiresome that became that we had a president who wasn't even lucid most of the time.
It was like, I sending you those clips from The View last night. Yeah. Reminded me how tired it made me. How do you lead the world? Was Harvard in business or how do you lead the world without ever the best health care? You know? What did he even say? That that infrastructure. I don't know. Yeah, you're right. He did say something about the infrastructure and then something.
Health care. I, I don't know why they're letting him do these TV hits. I want to be babysat by his wife at the table. We're all twitchy with Biden. Dementia, PTSD. Watch him. All right. It's 858 on Newstalk 179. It is a Friday morning. We have a new pope, and we may just open up the phone lines.
And I want to get people's takes on this. We're kind of getting conflicting takes. Apparently, some associate of the new pope said that he was all in on Francis's social justice stuff, so I don't know what to believe, but we'll be back. Our two coming up at 859.
And good morning. It is 907 on Newstalk 1079 Neil Larson along with Julie Mason. And if you'd like to join us on the program, the stones Automotive group calling text line is (208)Â 542-1079. We can talk about the new Pope and your thoughts. We may do a flash poll. Julie. And we had a we had great feedback from our audience because I teased this last hour and they said, why don't you do the flagpole?
If you do it, make sure you ask them, are they Catholic in practicing Catholic or not? But as a non Catholic, so far from what I've seen and again, it's very, very early. Ask me again in three months or six months, but I'm feeling somewhat optimistic about, this particular pope seems like maybe we'll get back to a more traditional Pope model.
I would agree with you on that. For the the research that I did last night, the headlines that we're seeing today, the people that have been interviewed this morning on, on various, stations here, like, they seem to be pretty happy with this and maybe a return, but like you mentioned last hour, there is a small fragment of people that think that this guy's Trump hater, that this this guy is just going to follow in the previous Pope's footsteps and it's going to be very liberal.
So we'll have to wait and see about who's right. Okay. We will we'll wait and see. We also have other things going on. The Bidens went on to The View. Now that's a collection of people at that table. You're like, explain the most hellish experience you could endure. And that would be in the mix. You know what?
Here's the thing. I didn't ever think that you'd have a guest on The View that would bring down the average IQ of the table. I think maybe it happened yesterday at you know what, at least he has an explainable reason. Well, that he has a mind altering disease. Everybody else at the table, look, you bring in somebody with two brain cells.
You're raising the average IQ significantly, typically under you. I know in your monologue you didn't play the clip where Jill steps in and tries to answer, answer him, I got it. You want me? But she has, because there's something she does in there that really grates me. Okay, a couple of minutes long here, but it's it's worth it.
We promise. Yeah. Mr. President, since you left office, there have been a number of books that have come out, deeply sourced from Democratic sources that claim in your final year there was a dramatic decline in your cognitive abilities. In the in the final year of your presidency, what is your response to these allegations or are these sources wrong?
They're all wrong. There's nothing to sustain them. Number one, number two, you know, think of what, what we were left with. We left with a circumstance where we, we had a insurrection, and I started. We did not since the Civil War, we had a circumstance where we were in a position that we, Well, the pandemic, because of the incompetence of the last outfit and up over a million people dying, many people dying.
We're also in a situation where we found ourselves, unable to, deal with a lot of just basic issues and, which I won't go into it's interest of time. And so we went to work and we got it done. And, you know, one of the things that that. Well, I'm well, I this, you know, one of the things I think is that the people who wrote those books were not in the white House with us, and they didn't see how hard Joe worked every single day.
I mean, he'd get up, he put in a full day, and then at night he would I'd be in bed, you know, reading my book. And he was still on the phone reading his briefings, working with staff. Does anybody believe this? Do you see why I said, I've got a beef with this part of it? Yeah. No way.
Slap a polygraph on her because there is no way she's telling the truth right now. There were dozens and dozens of days that a lid was called anywhere between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.. Yeah. Stop saying how he worked every day tirelessly. The. I don't need your stinkin books that you're referencing. I was watching it happen in real time.
You don't call a lid if you're working tirelessly. You didn't hold a stinking cabinet meeting for a year. And then when you when you held your final one, you let Jill run. This is I mean, part of me. I'm sitting here thinking, if anybody on that table from The View had any shred of journalistic integrity, they would have asked a follow up and they would have said, even your own white House acknowledged that you were working shorter days, 10 to 4.
Yeah, it was a lot of days were six hour, 10 to 4 days. Four. That's that's history. No time. I think what happens, Julie. And maybe this is part of human nature. And I don't know why we do this, but we do this. It may have happened once that she was reading her book Prize something off the Oprah, you know, read the seller, look at the list.
And Joe had to take a phone call and it might have been 10:30 p.m., and then suddenly she can pluck that one detail and cast it as that was his entire presidency. Yeah, I she can sit there and continue to lie. There are multiple, multiple, multiple people that feel exactly multiple of of hundreds of thousands. Yeah. That feel like I do.
Oh I guess yeah. And I don't need these tell-all books. I'm not a big fan of Tell-All books anyway. Yeah, I don't need the books. I watched it happen in real time. Y'all watched it happen. You're right. We did. And you do have to be careful of Tell-All books because they're trying to sell books, and so they're going to exaggerate the salacious and you know, but but yeah, we all watch this day in and day out of Joe not talking to the press for weeks and weeks on end.
We laying on the beach looking like you're already dead, wondering if someone needs to go check on him. Yes. Having some sort of medical episode in Vegas. Do you remember this? Yes, I do, and we have still have no idea what occurred there. Yeah, that's. I forgot about that. I forgot about that. But I mean, it was this falling upstairs when he's trying to get on an airplane riding a bike.
And how many times did he crash his bike? Yeah. Standing like this, frozen for seconds at a time, shaking hands with a non-existent person. Yeah, yeah, we all saw it, so don't I? It's it's pretty offensive to have someone stand there and just gaslight. Everything was totally normal. Yeah, that's my big issue with the clip. I Biden's dodging the question and he's giving these these political talking points.
And we all know that they're just talking points and it's no big deal. So Joe, do whatever you're going to do. But when Jill goes to jump in, that's when I lose my cool on this clip. Because you you used your husband. And what's interesting is we just got an optical example that contradicted the answer he was trying to give exactly, exactly.
Yeah, I, I was totally I was so cogent that now my wife needs to finish the second half day, I don't know. Yeah, yeah. I'll jump in here. La la la la la la la. Yeah. The only person, Julie, that I think could lower the IQ even more if you were to put another chair at that table, would be Jasmine Crockett.
They try to act like, oh, political violence. It's the Democrats and it's the liberals. And it's like, actually, it's actually actually, actually, I mean, I'm not gonna say they're like a left leaning person can not be violent because that would be like crazy to say somebody can't be. But baby, baby. Yeah. Baby. What is that? It's like a sudden little French accent or something in there.
She gets mad that people color ghetto, and then she gives answers like this. Yeah, I just want to is she needs. Someone needs to say that to her. You know, I saw your comments from two weeks ago where you're frustrated that you're being categorized as ghetto, yet you're talking to me like this. Do you have an expectation of what people are supposed to believe when you speak?
Yeah, I asked the question. You're a you're a sitting member of Congress. Yeah. Oh, got the white supremacist galore. Okay. Like all of them. You got the Proud Boys. You got you got the neo-Nazis. You have people that literally should be classified as domestic terrorists, because a lot of times that is what they are doing. They are engaging in domestic terrorism.
And guess what? They all align with your side. Yes, including the KKK. So like, I mean, this is this is who aligns with that. So like in here least in like who you are, y'all are violent like yeah. And in most of your violence has to do with okay. She is you got to finish that last part. Most of your violence with people that's got a little bit of melanin but nevertheless like.
Yeah. So she claims at the end there that most of the white person's violence is against people that have melanin, meaning black people. Yeah. This is a simple fact check. Oh, by the interviewer. But the interviews are all in on on it. Because remember, she's like sitting there. And no, it's not even an interview. It's like a yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah.
Like she's totally agreeing. Yeah. So but the fact check is the biggest killer of black men is black on black crime. Yes. That's a data point. That is not a manipulation. That that is an undeniable data point. And it's significantly bigger, significantly bigger. Yet she's going to make a claim there at the end that it's white people killing black people.
Yeah. You know what? They'll never be able to solve the problem if they can't identify the problem. No. All they're doing is stoking a flame. That's her job. That's what Jasmine Crockett thinks her elected position is, is to stock up. So can I ask a question? Because I actually, it's infuriating to hear her talk for a lot of different reasons, because she's not nobody can take her seriously.
Like, nobody can, like, take her like baby back. Baby like, how do like, how do you take that? Like, seriously? Honestly, how do you take her seriously? I don't know that people can other than unserious people. So I'm okay with her being part of the face of the Democrat Party. It's going to benefit us in the long run.
As infuriating as it is to to hear it right now. But what's, what is what happens with her. Because I would imagine Democrats are like, she's a hot mess and she's a liability and we got to do good. But I don't know that there's enough organization inside the Democrat Party to take care of the hot messes that are liabilities.
Well, by definition, aren't hot messes kind of not controllable? Yeah. AOC, this is AOC about five years ago. Exactly. And AOC learned her lesson, saw her members, two members of her squad get kicked out. Yeah, the other ones have been removed from their positions. Ilhan Omar doesn't serve on near the level of House committees that she used to.
Yeah. So AOC went oh I gotta change my attitude a little bit. Jasmine. The same thing's going to happen to her here. Jasmine Crockett's going to lose any position that she had in the house by making comments that are similar to this. And she's only appealing to about 15% of the voting population. Yeah. That's anemic. Yeah, that is anemic.
That is anemic. Speaking of unserious members of Congress, this is Sarah McBride. She's the trans member of Congress. She's taking a selfie video on the congressional train ride. Listen, we are on our way to the House floor to vote on what is possibly the dumbest bill. We could be spending our time on legislation to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
This is ridiculous. And look, you might think that we're doing this because it's another opportunity for House Republicans. It's fantastic for the man in the white House. But the other reason why we are doing this is despite how unpopular this name change is, they would rather us talking and talking about mixing the Gulf of Mexico, rather than talking about how House Republicans are trying to nix health care for millions of Americans.
They would rather us talk about the Gulf of Mexico and then talk about how Donald Trump's reckless and erratic tariff policy is crashing the economy, changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico in this economy. What the hell are we doing here? Okay, so can I just point out what maybe it's an obvious point to other people. Isn't Trump just transiting the name of the Gulf of Mexico?
Yes. And for those who don't know who this person is, and you heard Neal refer to this person as Sarah, I said it. She was the only trans member. Yeah, yeah. She's changed her name. Yes. You're right. She's mad. Trump is changing the name of something calling like trans at Bay of water. But she changed her name. Yep.
These people are wonderful, aren't they? They're really Joe Biden cell phone. Jasmine Crockett's cell phone now, Sarah? Sarah McBride. Yeah. Let them keep doing it. I guess the jokes were running wild with this clip last night, because there's so many puns you can make. So, yeah. And. Yeah. Let her do it. Let her do it. Yeah, I, I kind of like it, like, I, I don't enjoy it, but I like the effect that this is going to have.
Yeah. Another Yahoo. Although he's probably a little more of a serious person than the other, the others we just aired. But Senator Chris Murphy was grilling Kristy. No, they are all in on doing everything they can to help kill Mara Abrego. Garcia, wife beater, terrorist, human trafficker. And Kristi Noem just doesn't take any of it. Court decision requires the administration to facil state, kill Ma Abrego.
Garcia's release from El Salvador. Can you describe the steps that you have taken, to facilitate this release and specifically, can you answer as to whether you have reached out to your counterpart in El Salvador to facilitate, Mr. Borrego Garcia's release? Braco Garcia is a citizen of El Salvador and should never have been in this country and will not be coming back to this country.
There is no scenario where a breakout Garcia will be in the United States again. If he were to come back, we would immediately deport him again because he is a terrorist. He's a human smuggler and he is a wife beater. Does does the you've read the Supreme Court decision? Does the Supreme Court decision not require you to facilitate the return of Mr. Garcia?
The Trump administration is complying with all court orders and judge's orders. Does does the does the Supreme Court order require you to facilitate the recognition of Garcia? Is a yes or no? It is up to the president of the El Salvador to make the decision. You're a defendant in the case coming back. It's been a big topic of conversation between all of us, between the country.
When the president visited the United States of America, it was discussed and talked about there. The president has been very clear on this issue. As the secretary of state, and I have as well, Abrego Garcia is not a citizen of this country and is a dangerous individual who does not belong. I will I will end. I will not ask another question.
We're back in session. We would immediately discussion ends when the Supreme Court rules nine zero that you have to facilitate his release. And the fact that you can't even acknowledge. Okay, Chris Murphy has a little more substance to him, okay, than other Democrats. I think he put on, you know, gravitas smelling Cologne like that's he he has some level of that, but it's still such a weird look when when you when you take the word facility and the Supreme Court told the Trump administration, you need to facilitate his return.
And I've said this before and I want to make a comparison. They did not dictate the level of enthusiasm within that facilitation of a Braco Garcia's return. So we all have heard this July especially, I think, during Covid, when there was a lot of people on unemployment. And everyone knows in order to keep your unemployment coming, you have to look for a job that's a requirement.
And we've all known scenarios where all they did was go out, fill out an application very halfheartedly in a way that no employer is going to hire that person. But they did the requirement, okay. It was the minimum level that they needed to do to keep the unemployment benefits coming. But it's very, very difficult in policy to require something as subjective as enthusiasm.
Now I look at the Trump administration. Nobody in their right mind wants a break. Garcia back in the United States of America. Nobody. Right. So I look at this like well what do we have to do to comply with you. Or what's the minimum amount that we need to do. We make a phone call typically the president.
He says no, we can check that box off. We've facilitated they said no and they are done. And I'm 100% in favor of the Trump administration checking off that box because they made a phone call and the phone call was no. Right, right. I you were you were spot on about the unemployment, comparison here. It is well known out there.
You can find it on Reddit. Feeds everywhere. The way to game the unemployment system is apply for jobs that you're not qualified for. Yes, if you apply for a job that requires a certain certification and you don't have the certification, you're not going to get the job. Yeah. But you have fulfilled what's required by the system. Yes. Okay.
Trump all the Trump has to do is fulfill what's required by the system. And that system has now been determined by the Supreme Court, just like he's he's explaining to him. He's explaining, hey, that today said you have to facilitate this. Are you going to do it? It's a Supreme Court decision. Well, facilitate means all I got to do is say, hey, well, you guys are going to send it back.
And if they say no, we have no control over them. They we're not going to tell another country what in fact, isn't that the complaint to the liberals that we as Americans always tell other countries what they need to do, assert our control all over the place, and now all of a sudden, they want us to assert our control in El Salvador to get this terrorist wife beaten thug back here.
Yeah. Hey. And I don't know why they keep doing it. You might as well stop. The man is a horrible human being. Yes he is. Find a different. If you are insistent upon turning a criminals into heroes, I can find you a better one. Yeah, because there's criminals out there that just kind of got caught in bad situations.
And it turned out not so great for them. I do want you to reference him as a gentleman. However, we can add modifiers to that. A terrorist gentleman, okay. A wife beaten gentleman. A human trafficking gentleman. Yes. Right. So yeah I, I why are they, why are they dying on this hill. What is there to be gained by it.
I so much so I was like is this clip old. If you start to think when you let it go. I think other Democrats got the memo. Yeah. And they're like, okay, this is not a winning angle for us. But I, I really think there are some Julie that they don't care what it does to their personal political brand or the Democrat brand.
They need to have a defeat of Donald Trump. Yeah. They need Donald Trump to bend down and kiss the ring of the Supreme Court and them with their ridiculous due process arguments. It's funny also that these Democrats who insisted, are insisting upon continuing to talk about a breakup. Garcia, that they've been given a ruling by the Supreme Court.
And so it is become now their interpretation of the ruling is what is exact right. That's what they're they're interpreting the ruling and they're saying this is what you have to do. Yeah. When we're talking about abortion and it's supposed to go back to the States. Oh, that's not what the. No no no no no no. Right. That's true of sudden.
That's not the gold standard. Yes. But it is the gold standard when it comes to Garcia. And I'm going to tell you how you have to fulfill that gold standard. Yeah, right. That's true. That's a good point. All right. 929 on Newstalk 10792085421079 is the number if you'd like to be a part of the program today, we have more John Kennedy audio will play some of that for you coming up.
And I think we'll do the flash poll. We have new Pope. We better do something for that. Okay. Back. All right. I just spoiled the movie for Julie. Yeah. He told me the the ending of the conclave movie. Okay, hold up the Oreos. Oh, yes. James. Chocolate covered pretzel Oreos. I you know, I'm not a big candy fan.
I'm not a big cookie like that because I make my own cookie fan. That might be the best story I've ever eaten. Is it is good. Yes. Yeah, I if you're an Oreo person, I would highly recommend giving them a try. And thank you, James. Yeah, we like that. When we get a text saying, hey, I left you some treats in the vestibule.
Yeah, super sweet of him. Feel free to leave treats in the vestibule any time any of them are. How much time do I have? Like a minute and a half. Okay. 45 seconds. Do you still have the commercials on? Yeah. No, no, no, I mean, to these guys, it's just us, right? Yeah. Are they saying something? Yeah.
Adam said he could hear us through the commercials. Oh. Oh, no. Over the air.
Oops. Neil. Then sometimes I go, okay, I got, somebody DM'd me last night on my crime podcast. I'll be very short with the crime story. A man killed his wife in 2003. Left her legs in a dumpster. They didn't solve it until 2021 by the help of DNA. He killed her because he was cheating with a stripper.
Oh, well, for the next seven years they're going all right we're back. 933 on Newstalk 179 Neil Larsen along with Julie Mason. And if you'd like to join us (208)Â 542-1079. How are you doing? Good. How are you? I'm doing okay. A lot of buttons on this board. Just saying. There's a lot of buttons on this board. So.
Yeah. Anyway, okay. And we should. We played John Kennedy ish. Audio here. We do have to get to our news break. Shortly. But this was kind of a bombshell thing where Kennedy asked Kash Patel that Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, they were the FBI lovers that tried to participate in the takedown of Donald Trump. The framing with the Russia Trump collusion stuff.
They were given a $2 million payout for what? I don't know what they deserved to pay out for. You're the ones that put your job in jeopardy. I have no. Okay. Can I let me let me float an idea here? They say it was a quote unquote settlement or a payout. I don't know what you were.
You had a, an adulterous affair. You were colluding to try and undo the outcome of an election. All sorts of malfeasance there. I don't know if this was a settlement as much as it was hush money, that it was a payoff for them to keep quiet and don't reveal the rest of the deep state. You guys are the fall guys.
Yeah. Here's your money. Shut up. Yeah, yeah. All right. That's what I totally think it is. Yeah, 100%. Yeah. But that's how this government has been working. Yeah. I mean, what a great payday for them. Yeah. They're qualified. They can go do other jobs. Some other somebody who thinks that they're somehow quasi heroes for trying to undo the election are going to hire them into some push positions.
Oh, yeah. People are set up for life. Oh, yeah, they didn't. They didn't need a settlement. Now, they might say, because they did get fired. They had they had to they had to fire them. But there was cause so I don't know why in the world they'd get a, they'd get a settlement. So it's probably hush money. Senator Kennedy asked Kash Patel about this.
You remember Lisa Page and Peter Strzok, don't you? Yes, Senator. Mr. Strzok worked for the FBI, Miss Page. I mean, I'm sorry, Mr. Stark. Work for the FBI. I think Miss Page worked for justice. The inspector general found and its investigation that they, they hated President Trump and they really wanted, Secretary Clinton to win.
Is that true? That's correct. Sir. And this would be the same, Mr., same Miss Page, who sent an email to Mr. Struck with whom she was having an affair. Trump's not ever going to become president. Right, right. And Mr. struck with the FBI senior official atf bad replied quote no no he won't we'll stop it.
Did I read that correctly? You did Senator. Okay. Now, Miss Page got up, quit before she could get fired. Mr. Struck was fired. And predictably, they filed a lawsuit. Because in Washington, it's easier to divorce your spouse than it is to fire a federal employee. Why did the FBI give Mr. Strzok $1.2 million in Miss Page?
$800,000 to settle a lawsuit? Senator, I do not know that settlement was reached in the prior administration. Who made the decision? The prior Department of Justice, who in the prior Department of Justice, the settlement for that kind of case can only come from the attorney general. It should be Attorney General Merrick Garland. So the attorney general decided to give Mr. Strzok $1.2 million in Miss Page, $800,000, after they were fired after actively interfering in the 2016 election.
Is that right? My understanding is that was a settlement. They agreed to pass me the shake bucket place. He's got to throw up. Yes. Okay. My question is. And the answer's probably no, ma'am, but can you do a clawback on that? Could could could they say no. This was improperly administered and decided on. They probably cannot at this point, I'm guessing, man, I'm guessing no.
It's probably going to be structured very much like a nondisclosure agreement. An NDA between two, like a contract between two parties. Yeah. And this was probably a contract between stroke and page and the federal government. And in order for both to settle, you couldn't talk about the terms or anything. So if the federal government reveals the terms of it struck a page can sue them and have struck a page, reveal the terms of the settlement, the government can sue them.
So both are going to stay quiet because personnel issues can stay. Man at Holland. Merrick Garland to a congressional hearing though. Yeah I know he'll just make him explain that that. Yeah I hear that. That's that's crazy. That is crazy. But you know what knowing those two and the context of all of it, it feels more like hush money than it it feels like a settlement.
Yeah. Money's money. And it's probably true. It's probably easier to get divorced than it is to get this. Probably right. All right. 940 on Newstalk 107 nine. We'll be back after this. When we come back, let's shift gears. Julie, I want people to think we've had almost 22 hours of knowing who the Pope is, Pope Leo the 14th.
And we'd love your thoughts as we embark on a new a new pope in the Catholic Church. We'll be back after this. Okay? Okay. So guy kills his wife? Yes. They never find her head, her arms, her torso. It's just her legs in a dumpster. Which is why it took till 2021 for them to solve it via DNA genealogy databases.
Much like we solved the Chris tap case. Yeah, okay, I'm telling the story on my my crime podcast. Twice I refer to the woman who this man killed his wife for and then used his dead wife's identity. Okay. For the next seven years to purchase this woman a car to give her $30,000 credit limit on, on a credit card.
He he put her up in an apartment. He gave her cash and gifts. Yeah, all on his wife's good credit. Okay. For seven years. Because they people just thought she left, right? And she disappeared. Okay. I refer to this woman twice in the podcast as a stripper. I got the most scolding, direct message. Stripping is a legitimate profession, and I don't think you should have that tone of voice when you're talking about it.
Well, wait a minute. I'm talking about how filthy this is. That they killed somebody and she's living off the dead woman. Well, no, let's just go back. Let's let's let's put that murder aside for a moment. If you called someone who engaged in plumbing a plumber. That's not an epithet. I'm supposed to call her an exotic dancer.
According to politically correct language. I'm not supposed to say stripper. Okay, what did you say back? I have a message back. Because this is ludicrous. That is ludicrous. I don't. Look, if you want to think it's a legitimate profession, that's fine, but you're called a stripper. So there was a, there was a controversy in Pocatello, like 20 some years ago,
And on public access TV, the hosts had brought in one of these people, and I think some things kind of were revealed, like, it wasn't hardcore, but I think maybe some things that shouldn't be on TV got on TV. And, I remember talking about this issue and it was the exact same thing where I said it was a stripper and one and an exotic dancer called in to correct me, saying, we're exotic dancers, not strippers.
And I think, I think I said something to the effect of, well, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to besmirch the good name of exotic dancers by calling them strippers.
But I I'm not going to tiptoe around finding the the perfect name for this woman. Well, she was cheating. She was cheating, and she knew what was going on. But that's such a weird. A weird take, I think. Okay, and you know what? There's slang terms for lots of different professions. Like if you're, if you're a counselor, you're a shrink, a police officer, you're a cop, an electrician is a Sparky.
Yeah, right. I mean, you could go, but for some reason, you can't have a slang term for an exotic dancer. Ask yourself why that is. Ask yourself why they get sensitive. It's used. Uses slang term for for that. Yeah. I also went in the DM. It was twice mentioned that this is a legitimate profession. I didn't say it was in a legitimate profession.
I never said she shouldn't earn money for taking off her clothes. I didn't make those claims. Right. I mean, it's there's definitely a supply and demand relationship. Absolutely. We're not saying it's not only fans exists because they get their money. Right. That's true. I'm not saying OnlyFans isn't in the legitimate profession, but I'm going to I'm going to say you have an OnlyFans.
I'm going to say you strip. What does that term legitimate mean? Like what is what does that mean? What are they asking for when they demand you acknowledge that I have respect for a profession? Okay, but are they saying that you you shouldn't make a moral judgment about it? Yeah, I think so. Well, okay. Moral judgment was coming.
Not because she's stripping and getting paid for. It's because she knew what was going on. Right? Yeah. That's that's that's so that's so weird. That is so weird. And by the way, she's interpreting it all from my tone. Yeah. I never said a judgment. I never verbalized a judgment. Yeah, I think it's projection. No, I'm serious. I'm sure it is.
Yeah, that I sure it is. They're casting something they're insecure about under you. Yeah, yeah. Oh, well. 946 on Newstalk 1079 Julie, if it's I mean, it is a very Catholic day today because we have a brand new pope today, but I don't know if I had a big juicy steak from Grand Peak's primates on lent that I could, that I could skip it.
It would be too much the tempt. It might be too much of a temptation. Like, I'm like, I just have to, like, stay away or some cat. You make up whatever you want to do for lent, though, don't you choose what you're giving up now? I think meats a thing on lent. Yeah, some people will choose other things, but I.
I actually think that there is a focus on not eating meat and not eating meat other than like fish. I think you can have fish, but like anything, any red meat, any pork or anything like that, you're. Oh, I thought you were just giving up something. You were. No, that was a, an earthly temptation for you.
Well, you know what? Michael Coates, our resident Catholic, could answer, that I like to call him cardinal cumulonimbus. But if he could let us know. What, you know, what if there is a thing about not eating meat? Yeah, because I I'm not going to out anyone. But I know someone who's a nanny. The nanny, not Catholic, was a nanny for Catholic kids, but gave them, like, bacon or something on land.
And then they found out later and the nanny was panicking. But then the mom found out in laughter, head off. Because it's it's fine. Like it's just a little kid that ate some meat and that's okay. Yeah. You know, it's not like it was a choice or, you know, there's no penalty there. It's just, you know, but you strive to do it.
She thought it was some terrible thing. So I think there is something to do with eating meat on land. Okay. All right. Okay. Well, here's the beauty of Grand Peaks. Okay. You can have that steak frozen. Yes, I need it the day after lent ends. We're trying to give a lint friendly endorsement here for Grand Prime Meats because we have a new pope.
And lucky you, it's nice. It's almost a whole year before it comes around. This is like the weirdest segment we've ever done on the radio. That's true. Yeah. You're taking credit for this one. Yes. That's true. I, I own this awkward endorsement here. Anyway, those of you, when you can't eat meat, it ought to be from Grand Peaks because they have delicious steaks and ribs and dogs and all sorts of bad things, pre surveyed and cooked crockpot meals that are, that are ready.
So GG Prime meats.com again that's GP Prime meats.com. Yeah. Go there. You can find all the packages. Make friends with these people at Grand Peaks. They're awesome. And we hear that all the time about how the great customer service they're good to us. They'll be good to you. GP primates.com okay. It's, someone texted in I think it's no meat on Fridays during lent, but you can't have fish on Fridays.
Okay, okay. Did you like fish sticks? I like fish, okay. Yeah. So. And I would have eaten fish sticks as a kid. Okay. Yeah, I, I they have to be decent, but I do like fish. Yeah. Okay. No meat on Fridays during lent. The church calls that out. My wife chooses to do that year round. So some people just do that.
Keep that habit. No meat on Fridays okay. I'm sorry. You just eat extra on Monday, Tuesday Thursday you have 12 pieces of bacon. That's what. Maybe Taco Tuesdays had its origin from no meat on Fridays. Like we make up for it. We need to bring balance to the universe here. So if there's no meat on Friday, we're going to have Taco Tuesday, right?
All right. We've probably offended thousands of people like I. We're we're not trying to trying to awkwardly never sell. You know what? Go ahead and make fun of the whole caffeine rule in Mormonism and we'll be even. Oh, we even look, we got our own set of weird. Yeah. So there is absolutely no judgment. Yeah, yeah. You do I do want, let's do this now.
We do have a couple of minutes here. Our audiences reaction to Pope Leo the 14th. Oh, we've almost had a day of him being the pope, and we still have a lot to learn about him and get to know him. But what do you think at first blush? What is your reaction to Pope Leo the 14th? Go ahead and text it in because, and we'll we'll take some phone calls.
But we do have to break here pretty quick. But, Carla, go ahead. Your thoughts on Pope Leo? I think it's going to be a good thing. One piece of advice, though. Don't. Please don't use Uber to deliver meals late at night. But Uber to deliver what? Meals late at night? Yeah, they don't deliver meals late at night. But I think you'll make a good okay.
All right. Thank you for the call. Did he have a bad experiencing? I'm not I'm not sure with Uber. I'm not sure what that was. So, let's go to the next caller. Caller? Your thoughts on Pope Leo Disney? Yes. Okay. Well, I think them I'm not Catholic anymore, but I still don't like the case portrayed like, oh, this is such a humble man and work among the native integral of Peru.
And actually, yes, he lived in Peru for many years. He has a Peruvian citizenship to. But key players is not like the end of the world. Tequila is a nice city. And also he was there as, has a capacity as a bishop and as an administrator. Read an internship for Sydney McGee there. So he's L.A.. He was hands on working with the people there in Peru.
Okay, the other thing is that his big deal with his book so many times, that he he's. Yes, he's like Francisco, the Pope before him and that kind of, you know, we had to be careful because Francisco was a socialist and he's for open borders. So I think then, you know, sometimes people don't understand, when priests in the Catholic Church, there are two kinds.
One, the naturalist called the priest, and they don't really get involved with the communities, don't do anything, but they're what they call the other ones are called the brothers, which are the ones converse with the people. They are the ones who build things. They do things, but they they cannot do this. I command you not do those kind of services.
Yeah. So anyway, I guess don't like them. He's portrayed like these wonderful men. We don't really know exactly what he really did, except being an administrator of the Catholic lives in Peru. Okay, well, thank you for your take, I appreciate that. Yeah. All right, let's go to our next caller. Your thoughts on Pope Leo the 14th? I, I don't know him well enough to have a super informed opinion, but it's been interesting on social media and places where he is equally painted.
Is this super conservative hard, right? But also at the same time, a super globalist liberal. And it seems like everybody's shoehorning him into one or the other to try and fit a narrative that they're trying to push. Which seems unwise. But anyway, it seems to be going on heavily from both sides. Yeah. Well, then, thank you for the call.
I yeah, I've seen that too, where they've looked at his voting record when he's in the United States. He votes Republican. And we know that he's pro-life. There's a pretty good track record of that. But so is Francis. He was just far left on a number of other issues. So so yeah, it might be mixed.
We might have a mixed pope here. So yeah. And I think that there will be many, many opportunities for people to now reflect on what he says and, and interviews he gives. I think for me, 69 he's young. Yeah. So and speaking that many languages, the interviews that he does give or the times that he does speak are going to be very easily interpreted by the various places, like when he's in, in English speaking areas, he's going to speak English.
When he is in Latin America, he's going to be there, speak Spanish, your poor Portuguese, he'll be able to connect to a lot of people. Yes. Yeah, that's a great point. 954 will be back on Newstalk 179. Okay, okay. I somebody explained the UberEats thing. Yeah. Apparently a lot of Uber drivers eat part of your order. If you order late enough at night because like you'll be like possibly high and you've got the munchies or whatever so they can get away with it.
Oh gotcha. Okay. Someone texted that in and that makes more sense. But was there a news story around it or something? I don't know, I don't know I don't know what spun that. See which in that case it becomes Uber edibles.
I don't see anything on it. Wait. Delivery of food is clearly weird to Julie because she's 52. Yeah, my kids have stuff delivered all the time. Yeah, mind you too. Yeah. It is so weird to me. Very generational. Yeah, I think it is. I first off, I think most fast food is not worth the money that you pay.
And then you add enough. I'm going to add a delivery fee to that. Yeah, I know you know here you know what I do. And I think we're not that far away from it. Drone delivery. Because that's going to be far less expensive. Yes. Because you're not it's not gas. It'll be faster because they're flying through the air directly to you.
So I look forward to drone delivery a few weeks back. I was at a restaurant and a girl came out from the kitchen, and she's holding an on tray that's packaged to go home, and she's like. And she's slowly looking around. And as we were walking in, we had passed an Uber Eats driver who was taking his red bag out.
Yeah. And I'm like, those people are not getting all of their order mixed up in order. Yeah, I don't I you know, that's one thing when it first what how what do we have here minute 15. Oh yeah. We don't have enough time on the other end of this. Well, like when you pay for your order, when you, you get online, you pay for it, and it'll just sit there and be ready for you.
I'm like, how is there not more theft. Like they don't even ask. Yeah. It's just somebody walks in, grabs the order and leaves and I'm like and maybe it just it just works out. There's not enough people out there that are like I'm going to go steal an order from the ready to go rack. I would say when I'm with my kids, their order is wrong about 40 to 50% of the time.
Oh, really? It's wrong a lot. Yeah. See it. Worry about that. Yeah. You'd get it home and yeah. Two second. Also when I said the Pope is 69 that's a that's a church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints paradigm. Our prophet is over 100. Yes. Now. So like 69 seems very young to us.
958 On Newstalk 1079 Julie and I we will stick around for a post show. If you'd like to join that text live to (208)Â 542-1079. And we'd love to chat with you everyone. Have a great weekend. We'll see you Monday.
