On this episode with Neal and Julie... The headliner is the highly anticipated Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight, which Neal describes as "the lamest thing ever." He shares his thoughts on the disappointment felt by fans, who believed the event was hyped yet scripted, leaving many feeling let down. Julie chimes in, adding her own skepticism about the spectacle.

Shifting gears, they discuss Matt Gaetz’s potential nomination as Attorney General under a Trump administration. Neal suggests it might be a strategic move by Trump to draw attention away from other key appointments, which, by contrast, would appear more moderate and acceptable. The duo also examine the political dynamics among Republican leaders, who face the challenge of opposing Trump’s choices without facing backlash.

Later, Neal and Julie dive into Trump’s evolving relationship with the media. They explore his claims of wanting a free and open press while maintaining control over the narrative, as illustrated by his meeting with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski at Mar-A-Lago. Julie notes how Trump’s strategic approach positions him as both a polarizing and commanding figure in the media landscape.

Other topics include the Afghanistan withdrawal, the future of mass deportations, and the cultural divide over border policies. Neal and Julie offer insights into how these issues shape public sentiment and political debates, reflecting on the broader implications for the country.

From boxing bouts to political maneuvers, Neal and Julie deliver a lively discussion, engaging listeners with their trademark mix of humor and sharp analysis.

All right. Mondays are typically so boring we have to add something fun to make them livable. To make them tolerable, we have to add something fun to Mondays. And you picked a good one. Now, what are we doing? I did pick a good when it's. Oh, this is always a good go to is pretty low hanging fruit. But we go over the headlines on Babylon Bee and Julie has not seen any of these.

I've scanned it a few and I've stifled some laughter. So are you ready? I'm ready. Let's do this. All right. Here's one headline from November 16th. Red lobster introduces in a new quote, reasonable amount of shrimp promotion.

Today's economy. There's no all you can eat. It's true. Here's another headline. There's a picture of a really fat dude. And superimposed is an is, like picture in picture of RFK Jr. Okay, here's the headline. Fattest, sickest country on Earth. Concerned new health secretary might do something different.

There's so much truth to that. It's not even a headline. Like there's so much accuracy there. Yes, Christian life hack man uses morning prayer to ask for infinite prayers.

Yeah. Kamala Harris calls the Dave Ramsey Show for advice after blowing $1 billion in three months.

That's right. She'd have to cut back on her alcohol consumption because that's eating up a lot of that money. Yes. Buffering defeats Netflix by TKO.

Here's another one for his next fight. Jake Paul to challenge the exhumed corpse of Muhammad Ali.

You probably could have done 15 headlines off that fight. Yeah, you could have eyes. Well, I sent Julia meme that said Jake Breaking. Jake Paul is setting up a fight with 100 year old Jimmy Carter.

Here's another one. Trump worried everyone will quit before he can tell them you're fired.

Spirit Airlines announces they will tell you why they went bankrupt. For an added fee of $50.

I love that this is how I feel on Allegiant because I fly Allegiant a lot. Yeah, to get down to Arizona and I. I feel like every time the stewardess offers me anything that I'm going to be up charged for something I like, don't offer me. I just want to sit here. Leave me alone. Yeah, right. Yeah, that's.

That's funny. RFK Jr jumped in a dark alley by Count Chocula, Chester Cheetah and Kool-Aid man.

Especially Count Chocula. There can't be good stuff in that cereal. Yes. It's true. Okay. These are all old headlines. So good. Those are good money. They are. All right. We'll call that good. Let's get on to the podcast here on this Monday on Newstalk 1079.

I.

Want to show got.

And good morning East Idaho. It's snowing. Maybe not everywhere, but it definitely is in places so far. Not seeing anything too terribly concerning as far as roads go. However, sometimes our information source, which is the state's transportation Roads report page, might be a little delayed. And often we'll get texts from motorists saying, oh, yeah, highway 20 is super slick.

And so if you want to text, you can on the fall River propane call and text line, how are you? How are you? If you are a BYU Cougar fan, a Kansas City Chiefs fan, a I and I issue Bengals fan? If you're a mike Tyson fan, it wasn't it wasn't the best weekend for you. Now I will say I got sucked in to the hype over the Tyson Jake Paul fight, and when it was over, I thought, well, that was a waste of my time.

The fights before, especially the two women, and then prior to them, the two men, those were really good fights. But the headliner, the Tyson Jake Paul fight, I'm like, come on, that was the lamest thing ever. Anyway, there's all sorts of speculation. It was rigged. And, maybe that's true. However, I will say, our friend Mark Radford, who is a fan of the show and a friend of the show, he actually was in Dallas in the arena.

He was sending me some texts and and videos of what was going on, and I said, hey, why don't you swing by Monday morning if you're back in town? And, so he'll pop in and give us his firsthand account of, attending the Tyson Jake Paul fight. So that'll be here in about 20 minutes. Also, it's been an interesting week or weekend politically.

And you have the New York Times that is quote unquote, fact checking. RFK Jr and in an effort to prove him wrong, they proved him right. And this is the problem with the left. And I don't know if it's OCD. I don't know if it's neurosis. I don't know if it's just basic, complete social unawareness. But the premise of what RFCs message is, is that our food industry has been compromised to the point we have so many chemicals, so many additives, so much stuff that has been put into our food to keep it fresh or the right color or whatever, that it's harming our health.

So apparently RFK Jr had talked about Froot Loops at some point and said that it's an example of a product that has too many artificial ingredients, and that the Canadian version has fewer ingredients than the US version. So the New York Times comes along and says he was wrong. The ingredient list is roughly the same, although Canada's has natural colorings made from blueberries and carrots, while the US product contains red dye 40, yellow five and blue one, as well as butyl lated hydroxy toluene, or bt, a lab made chemical that's used for freshness according to the ingredient label.

So these two cakes are identical, except this one has poison in it. But other than that, they're identical. And RFK said, anyway, I'd like that's his whole point. You just proved the the importance of why RFK needs to be approved. So we'll see. That was a little side show. We also have the Whoopi Goldberg side show. Are you following this?

Whoopi stepped in it and said something that was flat out untrue about a family bakery in Staten Island. She was ordering some desserts from, what is the name, a whole German bakery in Staten Island. Apparently it's iconic and legendary and people love it. And Whoopi said, well, they didn't fulfill my order because they disagreed with my politics. Well, other than they didn't fulfill your order because they're both color was broken down.

You were right, Whoopi. It had nothing to do with what BS politics. But now, because we live in an age where the mainstream media doesn't have full and total control of the narrative and can protect their own, the world is finding out that Whoopi gave out false information and they're comparing her to Jussie Smollett. Now, I will say it's not quite Jussie Smollett.

It wasn't racial and there was no violence accused in this case. However, it feels like Whoopi was making herself to be a victim. That she was wasn't. And now their calls for Whoopi to be fired. I don't know if this will be the end for what B, but I will tell you the view was already in turmoil. In fact, a lot of leftist media is in turmoil because they did everything and I mean everything that they could to prevent what happened on November 5th from happening.

They don't have the power anymore that they had become accustomed to. And that's been the case for a few election cycles. Now, you might think, well, Biden was elected in 2020. Part of that was because there are multiple reasons. They changed a bunch of laws. It wasn't really the mainstream media, but algorithm driven social media that paved the way for Biden to be the the president.

Well, and I know there's some of you that are going to text in and they stole it. It was flipped. It was rigged. Whatever. Okay. We're not going to go down that road. But even in 2016, the mainstream media could not stop Donald Trump from beating Hillary Clinton. So they're losing their power and they know it. To the extent that MSNBC may be on the selling block, you might have CNN that's getting sold.

You have the LA times. I can't remember what the owner, the owner, fired. I believe their editorial board, Jeff Bezos, told the Washington Post. We're not making presidential endorsements anymore. And now ABC news is freaking out because The View, one of their properties does not have a single voice that is supportive of the president of the United, well, soon to be president of the United States, who won with a mandate 76 million people.

And you don't have a single voice on their. Well, they call it the view. And if they continue down this road, they need to call it the lack of a view, because there's a very important view that they're missing, which is, I don't know, half the country. So they are rightly in a bit of a crisis mode. And then when you have Whoopi Goldberg, who is creating these very embarrassing unforced errors for them, and no doubt I will tell you exactly how this is going to happen.

Whoopi and the other women on The View, but Whoopi specifically will come out today. She will apologize. She'll do her little charm offensive. She'll say something cute and quippy and she'll say, I misunderstood. And in the heat of this, and in the craziness of that, I misunderstood the situation. And I'm sorry, you know, I, I encourage you to support this bakery.

She'll do that because she's in big time hot water. But at some point, ABC news and The View they have to recognize the big pattern that has happened with her specifically saying just dumb things. And if they need a vacant chair to put a Trump supporter in this, all might be an interesting, good, good opportunity in time for them to do that.

So meanwhile you have the left. You have Trump setting up his cabinet. This is very interesting to watch. And there's all I I'm I'm think we all need to be open to a little possibility here. Matt Gates is getting the lion's share of attention when people are running around with their hair on fire, because Matt Gates has been put forward as the attorney general, and I think we might have a strategy afoot here by the Trump administration, which is let's put forward Matt Gates.

We we all know the reaction to this is going to be very, very predictable. People are going to run around with their hair on fire while they're running around with their hair on fire, all sorts of other people that he really wants to put in are being put forward, and they look mild, perfectly acceptable by comparison. And Matt Gates and perhaps Matt Gates even agreed to this.

He knows how he triggers people. Perhaps he's the sacrificial lamb for all the others to go through, and he'll be rewarded somewhere down the road because of it. Keep in mind, Donald Trump is forcing the media to drink from a fire hose. With the massive numbers of nominees that have been put forward, from RFK Jr to Marco Rubio to Tulsi Gabbard.

I mean, they can't keep up with it. You had Debbie Wasserman Noodle Schultz on TV openly calling Tulsi Gabbard a Russian asset. Her initial clip was to try and say, well, others believe that she might be a Russian asset. And the host said, do you believe that? And she sort of hemmed and hawed but said, yes, I do.

I do believe that. She didn't want to say she believed it as planned, but when pressed, she said yes. So they think Tulsi is a Russian plant. They think that RFK Jr is just a goofball that doesn't belong in the government, and he's about to be part of draining the swamp. You have Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy who are about to make government a whole lot more efficient.

That probably scares them to death. And so all of these things together really have them running around not knowing how to cohesively respond to this. And I think this is how you play. This is how you fight the progressive left's Alinsky chaos is you throw so much at them. You you fight their fire with fire. And I think it's working, I really do, and I know right now you have some Republicans in the Senate, in the House who are expressing some reservations.

The problem is they know what will happen if they substantively stand up and oppose Donald Trump's people that are that are put forward their their lives get very, very politically, get miserable. So you have that and I will tell you, I, I have had and I've had a few conversations the last few days. They are optimistic. People are feeling like America is back and it's really about to be back.

And I would agree with them. I don't think it won't be an uphill fight. The left always will regroup and they will come at you, but I don't think that they have their centers of cultural influence that they had before. Think about it. Think about how much control they had over Twitter. Now it's X. But it was Twitter just a few short years ago.

They controlled a massive amount of the narrative on that social media platform. And I almost think in certain ways, the national legacy channels like CNN and MSNBC were often down stream from what Twitter was creating with their algorithms under Jack Dorsey. And this is why Elon Musk bought this. He thought, where we don't have free speech in America, when nearly everything that we see has been filtered through a secret algorithm that's been put in place.

And, by the way, tailored by our intelligence agencies that have been politicized. So that's different now. We've had multiple people that are losing, that are leaving X Don Lemon left, Joy Reid left. We had we had another one. And I I've stopped counting and keeping track because quite frankly nobody cares. You're you're not making X less legitimate by leaving.

X is a great place for common people to come together and and let their voices be heard. Yeah, it's very well used. And there's a lot of people on X and a lot of things that are said. But Don lemon participating in X is not a requirement for X to be taken seriously. And the problem is these people take themselves way too seriously, and they think they are the centers of legitimacy and and opinion.

Nobody cares. Bye bye. Go, go on D deplatform yourself. Make yourself less relevant. Abandon it. Abandon your platform. That's you and that's your job. You were never required to be part of the public discourse in the first place. So I'm fine with it. In fact, in my mind, two words come to mind. Problem solved. This is just fine.

So we'll see. And what we found this has happened before, by the way, where you have these celebrities or media outlets or large organizations that decide that they're withdrawing themselves from the public square, they always come back. That's what's sort of disappointing about it. They're not going to be long gone forever. Like they promise they they leave and then they realize, well, we just took our marbles and went home and nobody cared.

But we still want to play with our marbles. And so they'll come back. It might be six months, maybe it'll be a year. Who knows? It might be three weeks. Well, we'll see how long they hold out. But not being relevant is something their egos cannot abide. So they always return with their marbles and they want to play in it as well.

In fact, if I were Elon Musk, you know how they have the blue checkmark. They have a designate one two that has certain meanings? I think they should they should have a marble like something like that that designates this person left. And then they came back, they canceled their account, and then they returned. Just to let you know, their ego causes them to be fickle when it comes to participating in the in the public discourse.

So I'm happy about that. And there there is a lot of enthusiasm and hope and optimism, and I hope that we hold on to that. I hope that as conservatives, we look at the future of America. And, you know, if you're a regular listener to this program, there were lots and lots of ups and downs through the last, I would say, year to year and a half, thinking, there's no way that Trump can win this.

This thing's rigged. And there he's going to lose. And I remember, I think the overall tenor for me, if I look back, was that I was optimistic that we could win this, that there were enough laws changed in enough of these states that Donald Trump, with a very disciplined, very focused, very robust, monolithic campaign could reclaim the presidency.

And that is exactly what happened. Let's enjoy it. But more importantly, let's utilize this. This is an incredibly unique time in American history, and I believe that getting rid of the Department of Education is within grasp. I think it is within our grasp. Excuse me. I believe that we have a grand opportunity to re energize America. Culturally. I believe that we can bring sanity to our energy policy.

I believe will bring sanity and respect of the rule of law to our border and our immigration system. Now, I'm going to tell you, there's some people through their lens. They think that will be authoritarian, an ism. Think about it. If you have acclimated to lawlessness, law and order looks like authoritarianism to you. It may even look like tyranny to you.

Mass deportations will look like tyranny to part of the country who has softened and thought, it's perfectly fine for us to have open borders. They will view it as injustice. They'll look at it like it's a horrific thing being perpetrated on part of America's population. That they are being sent back home and required to abide by the law.

So brace yourself for that. We got some squishy people in our own ranks squishy Republican, squishy conservatives that are gonna get a little, during this mass deportation operation. And I hope you don't lose your spine. I hope you realize and you recognize this is what upholding the law is going to require after three and a half, four years of not upholding the law.

It's going to be okay, though. And if anybody can get it done, it will be. The Trump administration got to take a quick break on this snowy Monday, November morning. I didn't even get to Ukraine and Russia. Things are changing. An escalating big drone attack on Ukraine. Now the Biden administration has said, okay, Ukraine, you can use your long range missiles.

So, the saber rattling, we'll be back.

And we're back. It's 832 on Newstalk 107 and Neal Larson, along with Julie Mason. And joining us in studio is our friend Mark Radford. Of course, he's with Colby off road. And you've got a lot actually that you got going on. Mark so but I, we were texting on Saturday night during the Tyson fight. You sent me some video from inside the arena, and I thought, you know what?

It would be great to get a firsthand account of this. So invited you to come in this morning. So. Yeah. Yeah, the fight was awesome. The the energy in the stadium was awesome. By the time the Tyson fight started, the entire stadium was, was, sold out. Yeah. They said there's something like 73, 74,000 people in there.

I mean, it was it was it was crazy. Yeah. So I'd never seen anything like that. But yeah, it was, it was really good. The the girl fight was my favorite, you know. Yeah. They were they were bringing it. It's interesting you watch all the fights before the Tyson fight and they were all there to win. And you could see that they were they're really fighting.

And then you get to the Tyson fight and it's like they, they it was almost scripted. It was it was weird. It was weird. It was really weird because I mean, this sounds like I'm wanting violence. But what I would say it was weird because there was no blood, nobody fell down. I mean, those are two big, strong guys.

You would think some of that would have gone on. Exactly. Yeah. Everybody else, had blood or black eyes or something happened to them. But, Tyson and and Jake Paul, they didn't. I mean, there is nothing. It's like they didn't even really fight, you know, it was just all for show, all hype. Yeah. So there's a little bit of conspiracy theory online.

Over the weekend, Tyson did get a good little pop on Jake Paul's, like his chin. And, Jake Paul backed up and kind of like, stuck out his tongue and made some facial like, crazy facial expressions. People thought that was him signaling to Mike Tyson to back off. Yeah, it could have been, you know, it was it was really interesting.

When Tyson first came out, I was watching the fight and, he landed a couple really good shots. And Jake Paul, from that point on, he was he started backing up, you know, he was backing up, trying to protect himself. His hands was always in the air. And then that happened. And then that was when things started slowing down.

Felt rigged to you, you know. Yeah. And everybody in the stands I mean you could you could have heard that. You could feel the disappointment. You can literally feel it. And you could hear the booing and everybody's like, what the heck's going on here? I mean, everybody around us was saying the same thing. Like they all felt it was rigged, like scripted, which a lot of people went to great expense and inconvenience to be able to be there to see this epic fight, which they probably felt kind of like they got stabbed in the back.

Yeah, they were saying that some of the seats that were sold down ringside on the floor. Yeah, sold for a million plus dollars. Could you mind could you imagine spending a million bucks and then seeing something like that? That's just crazy. Okay, I am baffled. Wow, $1 million, that is. Yeah. The seats I paid for were I bought them right off the bat back in March.

I spent I think they're $800 apiece. They were selling for ten grand plus where I was sitting. Oh wow. How did you not just throw those up and just. I shut up because I, I got the hype I wanted that I wanted to knock somebody out, you know. Right. Yeah. So I didn't sell them. I was like, I'm going to go to this fight.

I really wanted to see it. So yeah, that's crazy. Well, we got so caught up in the election that we didn't we didn't even pay any attention to this fight up until a couple of 2 or 3 days before. And then all of a sudden I'm like, oh yeah, this could this could be big. Here's Tyson, he's 58 years old and fighting this guy who's less than half his age.

And and so, you know, who doesn't get pulled into that hype. Yeah. Yeah I sure I sure bought the bought into it. Yeah. So but it was, it was, it was a good time. You know, I was down I was down in Dallas. We donated a truckload of potatoes, down to the homeless people down there, me and, Wilcox.

And so I was down there meeting with the people to get all that scheduled as well, so. Okay. Yeah. So that's why I was down in Dallas, and it just so happened to be on the same weekend as the fight. So you're like, okay, might as well made it work. I was so yep. Yeah. Well, super exciting.

That's fun. Yeah. Yeah it was it was a lot of fun. I really enjoy the the atmosphere was really, really good. It was it was crazy. As soon as the fight was over, everybody started booking out of that, out of the stadium. And there's probably 4 or 5 different fights that broke out in the crowd. You know, the cops were going crazy.

I mean, it was it was a wild night. After. It was really wild on the way out of the stadium. So I was half expecting because I watched. Well, I, I watched as much as I could, but Netflix had trouble delivering, so I had the streaming issue like everyone else did. But I was half expecting Trump to come out at some point and take advantage of all the attention that we should have.

He should have been there. He should have been there. But Dallas, you know, it's Dallas is very a very liberal city, you know, very liberal. And, yeah. I don't know how that would have went. Yeah. And I, he did the UFC fight the next night and Dana White capitalized on all of this. He came out in an interview and kind of gave it to the boxing world about how slow those matches went and that they they're they're not delivering like UFC match after match.

There's too much of a break in between and the rounds are wonky. And so we literally between the Tyson fight and the girls, the women's fight, I'll bet we waited 45. It didn't start till like 1030, 10:45. It seemed like it. And that was, you know, Dallas time. But it was it was really late. I couldn't believe it.

It just took forever, you know, all the fights. Yeah. Gotcha. Well, are you glad you did it? Oh, yeah. You bet. Yeah. I always I always like good entertainment, you know. Yeah, I was I was disappointed that that the Tyson and Jake Paul didn't really do much. I mean that was, that was that kind of was a bad deal.

But all the other fights, it was fun just being in the atmosphere, the crowd, it was it was a lot of fun. Yeah, I really enjoyed it. I bet it was all right. Mike Radford yeah, well, you guys have a wonderful day. You two. Go. Trump. Okay. It's all right. This is a great way to end that.

844 Newstalk 179 Neal Larson and Julie Mason. So Joe Scarborough and Mika Burgess, Little Women in ski went to Mar-A-Lago. Let's Z's and K's in there. Yeah, I guess you could just stop right there because everybody listening is going. Joe and Mika went to Mar-A-Lago. Apparently. Okay. And it's vague. They're phrasing it. C to me, a very important element of this story is who initiated the meeting.

And from what I've heard so far I haven't listened to everything. We had a limited amount of time during the commercial break. It's still unclear who initiated the meeting because Trump does not need them at all. No. He just won a massive election. And I think Mika and Joe probably feel like we need Trump more than he needs us.

And I would imagine they initiated this convo. I would think so also. And I would think that CNN needs to make some more money. And this is one way they can make more money if they can mend this bridge. You mean MSNBC or MSNBC? If they can, if they can somehow mend this bridge for a year, then maybe their entire portfolio gets a little bit stronger.

Like, I don't know, they're it's bad for them over there. I think you're right. So Scott Jennings retweeted. And I'll play this clip of Mika and Joe here in just a moment. But Scott Jennings, his headline was Hitlers getting a lot more meeting requests than I would have thought.

I really like Scott Jennings. In fact, I'm kind of sad. I know you're going to get the clip, but I'm kind of sad that he's not going to be the press secretary. I am too. He would have I would have thought that was also everyone saying this 27 year old woman that that Trump did choose is amazing. So it's probably going to be fine.

I'm sure she's a good pick, but it would have been would have been fun to watch. So here's Joe and Mika. Let's play this. Over the past week, Joe and I have heard from so many people, from political leaders to regular citizens, deeply dismayed by several of president elect Trump's cabinet selections. And they are scared. Last Thursday, we expressed our own concerns on this broadcast and even said we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with the president elect himself.

Okay, so they initiated this then. Okay. On Friday, we were given the opportunity to do just that. Joe and I went to Mar-A-Lago to meet personally with president elect Trump. It was the first time we have seen him in seven years. Now, we talked about a lot of issues, including abortion, mass deportation, threats of political retribution against political opponents and media outlets.

We talked about that a good bit, and that's going to come as no surprise to anybody who watches this show, has watched it over the past year or over the past decade, that we didn't see eye to eye on a lot of issues, and we told him so. What we did agree on was to restart communications. My father often spoke with world leaders with whom he and the United States profoundly disagreed.

That's a task shared by reporters and commentators alike. We have not spoken to President Trump since March of 2020. Other than a personal call, Joe made to Trump on the morning after the attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania. In this meeting, President Trump was tearful. He was upbeat. He seemed interested in finding common ground with Democrats on some of the most divisive issues.

And for those asking why we would go speak to the president elect during such fraught times, especially between us, I guess I would ask back, why wouldn't we? Five years of political warfare has deeply divided Washington and the country. We have been as clear as we know how, in expressing our deep concern about President Trump's actions and words in the coarsening of public debate.

But for nearly 80 million. Okay, I have to stop there. They have coarsened the public debate. That's exactly what I was going to say that they have. They have like they planted the soil, they tended the garden. And I think they feel like our hands have been totally clean in all of this. And it's all Donald Trump who made politics ugly in America.

I also think there's a weird dynamic going on here now. Not like we watch Mika and Joe on a regular basis, but Joe usually talks over Mika. I know, and she's doing all of the talking here. There. Actually, this is scripted. If you watch it, they're in a split screen. They're not even, like together on the set. They're in a split screen and they're taking turns back and forth.

That's not usual. No. It's usually Joe talking 90% of the time. Yes, yes. So this is an interesting presentation that it's coming from Mika. I think that that is probably to speak to their audience. So to soften the concept that we went and saw Trump don't be angry. This is why I think it's probably hoping they're hoping for women on women conversation here.

Mika, to the female listeners. Is there an element of this? Julie, where MSNBC views Donald Trump's election and the situation they find themselves in as an existential issue, that MSNBC is expensive to run? Their ratings are horrifically bad right now. You cannot run a media operation if those two things coexist. Coexist for much for a very long time, right?

So maybe they're like, we've got to find a way to lower the temperature, reach out, and I this is weird. This is very weird for them. It is weird. And I, I would also want a follow up question if you could interview Mika and Joe, but you're not going to be able to. It's their show, so whatever. But my follow up question would be if you didn't interview him since 2020, there was a lot of time there.

They said March of 2020 was the last time they spoke. The election wasn't until November. Yeah, yeah, there obviously there was prime real estate time there. That you could have done something pre-election. You didn't interview him because you didn't want him to be the president. So you didn't give him any airtime. Well they put all their eggs in the orange man.

Bad basket. Yes. And so to then act like we're just trying to fix a problem in our culture. No. If you didn't interview him from March of 2020, this was a you thing. Yeah. I will say that Donald Trump was incredibly gracious to even allow them to come tomorrow, log off and take up his time. Yes. If I were Trump, I don't know if I would have done that.

I would have said, you've been calling me Hitler now for months. Yeah. Yeah. Well, and you lied to the American public. I mean he was we so conveniently forget that Trump wasn't always running against Joe Biden Trump or excuse me against Kamala Harris. He was running against Joe Biden when, when they went on the whole tirade about how this was the best Joe Biden they had ever seen, and he told everyone to go f themselves if they couldn't see that this was the best Joe.

That happened when Donald Trump and Joe were still running against each other. Yeah, you read my mind. This is Joe Scarborough back on. Yeah, I don't I didn't see the day. I think he's better than he's ever been intellectually, analytically because he's been around for 50 years. And, you know, I don't know if people know this or not.

Biden used to be a hothead. Sometimes that Irishman would get in front of the reasoning. Sometimes he would say things he didn't want to say. This is and I don't you know what? I don't really start your tape right now because I'm about to tell you the truth. And if you if you can't handle the truth, this version of Biden intellectually, analytically is the best Biden ever.

Okay, that's Joe Scarborough. That's him willing to blatantly lie to the American people. Everybody knew what he was saying was false. Everybody knew he was gaslighting the country or not the country, but their small viewership into TRAI, into believing that. And nobody believed him when he said it then. These people are scrambling to hold on to some relevance.

They might even be trying to save their jobs by groveling to Trump at Mar-A-Lago. Which is another reason I think that Mika has taken the lead on this because you've got you better roll the tape now Joe. Yeah. And now he's going to be begging on his hands and knees for you to listen. That's a horrible look for MSNBC.

So that's another reason Mika has got to take this front and center. You know what bothers me, Julie, is that you have these people like Joe and Mika. They will flip. They follow wherever they think the crowd is going and wherever they think they can be the most relevant. It's just ugly. Yeah. It really is. I'd almost respect them more if they kept saying Trump was orange man bad.

In this hour of the Neal Larson show is brought to you by Crystal water. The difference is clear with crystal water.

Your world, your country, your communities. And you. Let's talk about it now on The Neal Larson Show with co-host Julie Mason. Tonight, it's.

Our two underway. Good morning.

Hey, it's 907 now on Newstalk 1079, Neal Larson, along with Julie Mason and, if you'd like to reach us, the fall River propane Collin text line is (208)Â 542-1079. So figure this out here. Yeah. If you all could have seen that he pushed about 12 buttons during all of that. I don't know what's going on. Yeah, no, we're okay.

Like we're we're flying. It's all right. But if you don't mind that turbulence. Don't mind. The engine shut down for a second. We're still flying. We're okay. Yeah. We're okay. We're all right. So, Julie, let's talk for just a moment. I want to contrast something. We talked last segment in the last hour about Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski groveling at Mar-A-Lago, wanting to have a line of communication, whatever.

Contrast that with Don lemon and Joy Reid. There was someone. It did. Sunny Hostin. She recently left last week. Right? Yes. They pick up their marbles and they go home. It's like they're they're pouting. Like, I'm I'm not going to go to the party. And I hope people will notice that I'm not at the party. And then I'll get sympathetic texts from them saying, well, you weren't at the party.

Why were you the part like, they're pouting, right? And let them leave. I think that's fine. They absolutely have the right to do that. And I wouldn't try to deprive them of that. But what I would notice, and it's all pathetic. All right. However you look at it, it's all pathetic because these are people that have lived in their own bubbles for so long and and made themselves completely out of touch with the American people.

Now, they don't know what to do. When America spoke so loudly a couple of Tuesdays ago and said, we want Donald Trump to be our president as much as you've tried to villainize him and destroy him and defame and slander him, he's he's the man for the times right now to be the president of the United States. And I just think they are in complete shock and emotional and mental crisis.

Right now, trying to understand why they were so disconnected from where the American people are. It. Well, and it could be simply that it really could be because I think they live in their little bubble, like you said, I think that life is different when you live in DC or New York City. They don't really know people. They want to pretend like they know people.

They don't really know people. In fact, we we covered a story earlier today about wealthy Goldberg and she's kind of in trouble because she slandered or and said to mean comments about a bakery in Staten Island. Okay, all of that aside, we got a text from somebody saying, well, Whoopi Goldberg said on air that she's just one of the regular people.

So we were like, what? Did she really say that? So we looked it up. Her wealth is massive. Yeah, 60 million. A lot of sites say that's what her net worth is. Yet she's going to call herself one of the everyday people that's just trying to buy groceries, too. They live in a bubble that you and I can't understand.

Yeah. And part of that's living in New York, part of that's living in DC. They don't understand everyday people, but they want to they want to leverage everyday people or use them to get what they want, sympathy or whatever. And that's what they're doing on X when they leave X, they're leveraging everyday people for sympathy or whatever, yet they're staying in their little bubble.

Do you think, Julie, that part of it is when you. And by the way, we've got to talk about Oprah. Apparently that whole town hall with Oprah was not a million. It was $2.5 million. Yep. Yeah. Holy crap. Yeah. So we'll get to that. But the Harris campaign, the Democrat party, they threw every A-lister they could come up with at the American public to try and get Kamala Harris across the finish line.

I think that has to be a massive blow to their ego, collectively and individually, that they threw Beyoncé. They threw. I had never heard of gorilla, but what or go lower la Gloria la they threw Megan Thee Stallion. Yeah. All of these people thinking okay there and Taylor Swift, usher, everything. And the American people said, no.

All right, you sing, you sing great. But you're not going to tell me how to vote. And I'm voting for my grocery budget. I'm voting for gas prices. I'm voting for national security. I'm voting for sanity with our immigration system. I, you know, all of these things. I think the elite is in both entertainment and political. They are in a crisis of confidence right now because they do not hold nearly the level of influence or sway that they thought they did.

Yeah. Well, in for me and you, I that seems pretty obvious. Yeah. You look at influencers, people, people will look to influencers for information before they'll look to celebrities. It's the new world. People who look to podcasters before they listen to a celebrity. Now, that was different 40 years ago. 40 years ago was a long time ago. Yeah.

Hollywood, you need to update your firmware. Yeah. You're overdue. And, you know, and I would say and I would agree with that 100%. But actually, you know what I would say and this is one of your favorite lines, Julie, just stay in your lane. We still buy your albums. We still go see your movies. We still enjoy what you what you put out collectively.

I mean, and, you know, not every artist is everybody's cup of tea, but collectively, we want them to be entertainers. We don't want them showing up and telling us overwhelmingly how we ought to vote in mass, because you had so many of them who were joining this chorus of, you need to vote, Kamala. And and lots of shame and lots of virtue signaling and and just a whole I don't really care if a celebrity says, here's how I'm voting, but there was a whole lot of manipulation that came along with this flurry of celebrities that Kamala paid to have show up.

Yeah, well, Mark Cuban look and look at the price he paid. Hey, Mark. Yeah, I mean, they extricated him from the campaign a week before the campaign finished, and he is nowhere. Yeah, you're right. You haven't seen him, have you? Yeah. The price that man paid for what he what he did with that campaign. In a sense, I think he sacrificed a huge amount of his cultural relevance and and really, really messed up when he said, you don't see any strong women around Donald Trump.

What a stupid thing to say. What an absolutely insane, stupid thing to say. Yeah. Especially when there's always strong women been around Donald Trump. Tulsi Gabbard was with him at the UFC fight. Yeah. On on Saturday night. He just named a 27 year old female to be his press secretary. But you know what? She's not going to get applauded at all.

No. Like there is going to be no unfurling the fanfare for this girl, for breaking the glass ceiling by being 27 years old and being named to that position because she's not one of them. Yeah, they only celebrate when it's one of them. Yeah. And that that is so true. That is so true. I did see that Ben Carson may be tapped as surgeon general.

Yes. And that floated all over the weekend. Apparently he came out this morning and said, I don't want the position, but I'm willing to work with the Trump administration on just about anything. Okay. So I'll help wherever. Yeah, but I don't want to be named. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Remember when C Everett Koop was like the attorney general or surgeon general surgeon general?

Yeah. I don't know what a surgeon. What is a surgeon. Do they do I don't I want to know their job title. They put they put scary labels on cigarets I know and they're like the key grip of government. Like they have this title nobody knows. Has any idea what it. Yeah. What does a grip do? What is a key grip.

Nobody knows. But every big movie has to have one. Yeah. And so because I don't think the surgeon general is doing surgeries right, right. All right. Okay, I guess. Yeah. (208)Â 542-1079. If you'd like to join us on the program this morning, see? Well, good thinking, whoever is the attorney general or the surgeon general, his first press conference or her first press conference should be start with scalpel.

I like to start saying terms that you hear in a surgery suite. Yes, that would be. That would be great. I need a CBC, stat. Yeah. Yes, that's that's true. Okay, so here I want to play this clip. This is MSNBC Courtney Kube. The the Trump administration is going to look very closely at the Afghanistan withdrawal. We all know and they always hide behind.

There was a consensus to withdraw from Afghanistan, which there was. The whole country was like, this thing's been going on 20 years. Let's we need to get out of there. We need to. But the way you do it matters. And nobody from the Biden administration wants to talk about the way you withdraw from Afghanistan. But listen to this report.

Oh, hold on. Officers working on the transition are considering creating a commission to investigate the withdrawal, including gathering information about who was directly involved in the decision making for the military, how it was carried out, and whether military leaders could be eligible for charges as serious as treason. Matt Flynn, a former deputy assistant secretary of defense for counter-narcotics and global threats, is helping lead the effort, sources say.

Yeah, so this is part of a number of efforts by the Trump transition team that we're learning more and more about since the election, some of their efforts to go after members of the military. We've heard a lot about how people like Mike Hague, substance, the, the nominee to be secretary of defense and other senior people in the national security space and, the president elect Donald Trump, that does it.

They want to look into generals and admirals, senior military leaders who have been involved in diversity efforts at the Pentagon and throughout the military. But this is a different angle to their efforts, is that the current military leadership in the Pentagon, specifically, they want to examine the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan. Now, it's no surprise Republicans have been extremely critical of the way that that withdrawal was carried out.

And in fact, the fact that there was a withdrawal at all. So it's no surprise that they were want to look at it. But we've been learning just say that we were upset that there was a withdrawal at us like we wanted it to continue. Okay. See, that's that's just misinformation. The media just continues to make the same mistakes that led to Donald Trump being reelected.

Yeah, they just keep lying. Yeah. Well, Bill Maher talked about this in his, like one of his monologues or whatever over, the last few days where he said they refuse to look in the mirror. You just keep doubling down. You just got your rear end handed to you, and you just keep doubling down. Yeah. Jen Psaki did that over the weekend.

Yes she did. She talked about the the trans issue and they're doubling down on that. And when do they Julie do they learn. Is there a are there some of these household names these these famous media liberals that are just so dialed in they will never learn, no matter how painful the electoral results may get for them, maybe because that's their shtick and they've just got to keep it going.

The Jen Psaki clip. The thing that bothered me the most is she talked about women playing in men's sports, and she tried to play it off, that this isn't happening anywhere at all. She's like, it's not happening. It is not the big deal that they're making it. Well, we currently have big name universities canceling matches. San Jose State with San Jose State because of a male player.

But it's not happening. You know, if you talk to Jen, it's not happening. Oh, okay. I that's a weird argument to say. It's not happening because you're you're arguing if it were happening then we'd have a problem. Yeah. You're right.

Yeah. That's the whole reason we don't have a problem with it because it's not happening. It's not a defense. Yeah, yeah. Of whether it's just or not. Just. Yeah. They're just saying it's it's not happening. You're sort of admitting that if it were happening then it would be a problem. So you've kind of lost the point. Yes.

Yeah. So here's what Jen Psaki had to say. There's obviously a lot of soul searching right now going on within the Democratic Party. And that's a good thing. But what I worry about is that in the course of all that soul searching, some Democrats might reach the wrong sweeping conclusions. And there are a lot of issues that fall into that bucket.

But one in particular that stuck out to me is transgender rights. Republicans found hundreds of millions of dollars on anti-trans ads this election cycle, including one that showed Vice President Harris talking about government funding for gender, reaffirming care for prisoners and detainees. If that sounds like a particularly obscure issue, it is because it applies to a tiny group of people, and it's also a policy that, by the way, was in place during the first Trump presidency.

Okay, I just want to pause there that ad that she's going to be talking about, the one where, Kamala Harris talks about providing trans surgery for every prisoner who wants it, and she's going to go on and say, it's not that big of a deal. That was Trump's best performing ad it was. So we need to remember that she's dismissing it all because she wants to make it not look that way.

Yeah. In reality, for people who saw that at all, all across the nation. Not in your little bubble, Jen. Yeah. All across that the nation that was their best performing ad. That was the one where the the tagline was something like she's looking out for they them. I'm looking out for you. Yes. And that I thought that was such a power, so smart.

It was simple, it was straightforward. And it spoke to a lot of people. Another one of the lines that ran over and over again in those ads and throughout right wing media, is this idea that America is faced with a crisis of boys playing and girls sports. Now, these ads created this perception that the issues of trans kids playing sports was dominating schools across the country, which is completely false.

Some people got pulled into that argument. I mean, immediately after the election, Congressman Seth Moulton told The New York Times that, quote, Democrats spent way too much time trying not to offend anyone. Rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face. I have two little girls. I don't want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat, I'm supposed to be afraid to say that.

And then last week and Congressman Nolan came on this network to discuss those comments, I was just speaking authentically as a dad about one of many issues where I think we're just out of touch with the majority of voters, and I stand by my position. You know, maybe I didn't get all the words exactly right, but the point is that the backlash I have received proves my point that we can't even have these discussions as a party.

Look, reflection is good, but if that were actually an issue at thousands of schools across the country, it would be worthy of a debate. But there are just incredibly few examples of transgender girls playing in sports. And when we see those examples, there isn't evidence that these kids are a threat to safety or fairness. Okay, so I want to point something out.

A transgender, a boy playing against girls in sports threatens to shatter tons of records that were rightfully earned. So you're actually impacting former athletes. You are. If you have a team that has a transgender athlete that makes them better than everyone else and they don't have a chance of beating that team, you are denying them the opportunity to win a state championship, even if they if they aren't personally affected by that, they won't get the chance to do it because these athletes are so dominant.

When you put men up against women, they are so dominant that they don't even have a chance to win the trophy or the title or the medal. So it does impact far more than just the immediate teammates of that athlete. Yeah. She's acting like somebody got a bad, like they ordered a sandwich at a delicatessen somewhere and got a bad sandwich.

And that's the only example. No. This infiltrates the entire system because it changes games. It changes scholarships. It changes opportunities. It takes away positions for people. It changes all the way. And I need to add it emboldens others to step in and do the same thing. Yeah. So the ripple effect is wide reaching. She's acting like somebody walked into a sandwich shop and got a bad order and that was it.

It no, it doesn't just affect that one person. Jen. Yeah, this is a wide reaching effect that having for example, the San Jose State player in their effect has affected hundreds of girls. Hundreds. Yeah, but it has because well, first of all, they don't want to get injured. That's absolutely happened before. If you're on the other side of the net from that trans player, you you could get injured.

But furthermore, if that situation is allowed to to play, it's much tougher. Your chances of winning the championship or beating that team are a lot harder. And so I'm glad to see. Have we heard anything? Are there any new developments with that San Jose State story? And I don't believe so. Since we talked about the two Boise State sisters.

Right. Yeah. Joining the lawsuit. But I was also going to say this is this has more reaching effects than just on the girls. It changes how the coaches recruit. So that changes all the upcoming people. Yeah. So not the ones that are currently. And so you mentioned the ones that were there before that set the records. It's affecting the ones currently in the system and it's affecting the ones in the future for recruitment.

Yeah. Yeah. It well it's true and I think I mean if this continues and I don't know that it will because I think we are seeing pushback and not just by conservatives and Republicans. I think this is a generalized common sense issue that we're seeing pushback on. But if it were to take hold and it would, every team, if you wanted to be competitive, would have to go out and start recruiting transgender athletes just to be competitive, just to keep in.

Yeah, it that for me, the thing that bothered me the most about Jen Saki's clip was that her complete dismissal, it is not the big deal. Everyone's making it. Well, why don't you ask somebody like Riley Gaines if it's a big deal? Jen. Yeah. Go ahead, get her on. I'd love to see her go toe to toe with you because she'd eat you alive.

It sort of reminds me. Julie, do you remember when we were talking about the porn in libraries issue? And this common refrain was, it's not happening. It's not happening. And I remember I think it was Senator Cook who said, you know what the easiest way is? I'll go to the library and then see, he went to the library, it was in the library.

And he realized, okay, this this is a problem. So they shifted their talking point. Well, it's not widespread. It's not widespread. So they just keep shifting and keep shifting, but they keep lying to. And so I'm actually kind of glad to see that Jen Psaki is doubling down on this, because it's a losing position to have, especially since November 5th, that it's okay to be common sense.

Again, you don't have to worry about getting canceled for saying it's unfair for to put boys on the court with girls. Okay. You don't you don't have to worry about that anymore. And I think that we have to keep fighting and it's going to take, it's never won. But the balance of common sense can be maintained if we continue to fight for it and, and get back to that point where you don't have to worry about your livelihood going away or your reputation being destroyed simply because you're stating the truth.

Right? I there's also an interesting sub concept going on here because she references the Democrat lawmaker and and what he said in his comments. And then he went on to MSNBC and clarified his comments. How about MSNBC taken that guy to the woodshed like they own him or something? Yeah, that's what the media thinks. They think they own you.

They think they own the lawmakers. They thought they owned the presidency and that's one of the biggest things that's stinging for them today. They didn't own it. No, it didn't belong to them like they thought it did. Yeah, I think that's one reason why they hate Elon Musk so badly. It's not because he's rich. They don't hate him even because he's conservative.

They hate him because he took away one of their most valuable assets. They understood, I think, far better than us on the right, how much Twitter could control the narrative in America. And he took that away from them. And they are proud and they're still livid because they had control for a while because of it. Yeah. And they ran with the narrative forever talking about how what a bad purchase.

What a bad purchase. What a like making him seem like he was an idiot for it. All the while knowing how smart he was that he had made the purchase. Yeah. He got the best to you. So. All right quick break. It's 930 on Newstalk 10792085421079 is the number. If you'd like to reach us on the fall River propane call and text line.

Okay. Yeah. Hey, Jen, how many women being impressed is acceptable? How are you guys? How about that snow this morning? Oh, it looks like it might have stopped. Oh, no. No, it's still. I can just barely. It's it's me. I got a text. I put my Christmas tree up over the weekend. You guys. It looks good, too.

She sent me a picture. There wasn't going to be enough time if I didn't do it. This weekend before I go for the Thanksgiving holiday to Arizona. So how long did it take you to put it up? A little longer? Because I changed it a little bit. So it wasn't just pull out of the box and put up.

I, the last, let's see, three Christmases, maybe only two. Okay. My tree has been all white and gold and, kind of cream colors, and I decided to add some red to it this year. So had to make a very ill advised trip to Hobby Lobby on a Saturday. Talk about taking your life into your own hands.

Oh my goodness, mass craziness. And I had a couple of really crazy stories that happened to me there that I can't share. But I told them to nail this morning. It was a weird visit. Pretty interesting customer service story. There was a couple interesting customer service story, and then an interaction between a mother and a daughter in an aisle that had me like, do I step in?

Do I say something? That daughter was being so horrible to her mother. Yeah, but Christmas is up. Okay, so Charlie Kirk is threatening Turning Point USA to come after Republican members of Congress who don't get behind Trump's picks. So he wants Turning Point USA to step up and do the work. Is that what you're saying? Yeah okay. Yeah.

Which he's deeply involved with turning the USA but I don't I like Charlie Kirk. I don't know if he's the formidable force that's going to create the pain though for members of Congress to decide otherwise like I. Yeah. Does that make sense? You know what I'd like. I told Neal this this morning. I'd like Congress to sit down and shut up about these picks.

Stop talking. Can we learn from the what the Democrats do? Well, just be quiet and wait until the hearing. Yeah, that's true, because you're not going to sway Trump with public statements. Nope. He's. Yeah. Yeah that's true I mean I what is that I don't know, it's like just this little like a little metal thing. Yeah I'm not sure what it goes.

Was it just sitting on the counter? Yeah. Just over here. Weird to.

All right. 934 on Newstalk 10792085421079 is the fall River propane call and text line. If you'd like to reach us today. Sam snow. Julie. Yep, it's fine. I think the roads are decent though. Like I think there might have a little couple of slowdowns. I did see a few little stretches of yellow on I-15, mean headed north out of Idaho Falls to Spencer, but for the most part it's mostly green across East Idaho, so I think the temperatures are high enough that it snows.

Not sticking to bad. I was looking to see how warm it is. It's roughly about 30 degrees. Yeah, in the valley. So traction on the road is going to make that snow melt. It's not going to stick. Yeah, I think I think you're right. So anyway, I bet it's going to be a minute before we get back up to 40 degrees, though.

I think, Friday looks like it might be sunny and 40, so. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Again, if you'd like to reach us, (208)Â 542-1278. We did get a definition of a key grip. It's a senior role on movie sets involved with a wide variety of behind the scenes tasks. Like I said, nobody knows what grip, push.

Does he have a jacket that says key grip on the back? Like, how do they know who the key grip do? Don't know what that is. It's does that mean you run and get coffee from Starbucks? Like, I think you're a little more in charge than that, but, it still is vague. The surgeon General is the nation's top doctor.

So again, I want him to or her to give a press conference where they just start acting like they're in a surgery suite. Why? So, yeah, I don't understand. Okay, I'm sure there's history behind this, but why do they call it the surgeon General big? Why not the physician general? It's sort of like saying the cardiologist general. I don't know why the or the oncologist general like they kind of went to.

Now surgery is a big I don't know if you'd call it a specialty, but you know what I'm saying. Yeah. Why not the physician general like, that's a, that's a weird, just a weird term for surgery. And I have to go back decades to figure that one out. Yeah, I have no idea. The nurse practitioner general, the general.

I'm the CNA general. This. But don't get Ahold of it. And it's going to be the CNA general, right? That's true. It will it will be. And you'll get a raise to 19 bucks in it. Sure. The CNA general. The phlebotomist general. The candy striper. General. Do they even have candy stripers? And they don't call them that anymore, though, right?

Well, please tell me it's not racist or sexist, though, because I don't. I think it's probably more strippers to a stripper. Yes. There you go. Probably so. Candy striper, general? Okay. Anyway, there's. I can't think of any more jokes up. That's it, that's it. So, Okay. What else? Julie, what else happened over the weekend?

Oh, big weekend for Taysom Hill on a sports note. Oh my goodness. Yes. Let's talk about that. Kind of a local kid. So Taysom Hill had a big game with the Saints. Accomplish something that no one ever has or it's been second one to do, second one to do. It's been decades and decades since it's happened.

The one play that I did see, I didn't watch the game, but the one player that I did see, he took a snap at QB, but it was a designed run. Yeah. And scored on it. It was amazing. Great play. Yeah. So to 25 rushing touchdowns, ten passing touchdowns and ten receiving touchdowns. The only other player to do it was Frank Gifford.

Okay. And he didn't have to be married to Kathie Lee. Win win. I've met Texans. I've met his wife and his sister. They were very nice women. So gotcha. Yeah. Gotcha.

Yeah. You know, Hank Smith, the kind of like the writer and the. Yeah. And he's a BYU, professor there. If you're not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, you probably know. Thanks to the best. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah.

He put out a tweet that said, I take credit for having Taysom Hill in my Old Testament class, and his knowledge of miracles that can be performed. Okay. There there you go. Nice. Yeah. Well that anyway good for him. Yeah. It's awesome. Yeah. You know what I love about Taysom Hill. It's great that it's somebody that has some regional ties.

But he found a way to make it work for who what his talent level was. Yeah. In the in the NFL. And geez you've got to get him. Give him credit for that. And coming back from his injuries though there's two things perseverance and figuring out how I can use my skill set to stand out in the NFL.

He's done it. Yeah. He's not the best at any one thing. But he's the best at being good at a lot of things. And that's that's served him very well. So all right, we've got to take a quick break. Oh. We got behind in the first segment. We'll come back and continue after this. On Newstalk 170 okay?

Okay. Craig says there's a whole bunch of, things that, Key Grip does. Pre-production, collaborate with the director of photography to determine the equipment needed for the film, including camera setups and lighting. Crew management oversee the grip crew, which supports camera and lighting technicians. Equipment coordination access the equipment needed for each shooting location, coordinate transportation and set up the equipment, camera and lighting.

Work with the DP to position and move the camera and create lighting for scenes. They also help with safety. They ensure the safety of the shoot, including building scaffolding and handling of heavy equipment, and they do problem solving. They find creative solutions to accommodate different shooting locations and setups. So they kind of do everything, everything there. The Taysom Hill, yeah, they are the Taysom Hill of a movie set.

Yeah, that's what we should have. Let's just can we change the name Key Grip because Taysom Hill makes way more sound like that better. Yeah, I do too I agree I agree. I was a candy striper. Really. At the Riverview Hospital that is no longer in existence but was where the Idaho Falls. How old were you?

Oh young like maybe 11. Okay. Well, I was helping one time as a candy striper at, like a bunch of old folks were there doing something, and a man asked me to get him a cup of coffee, and he was insistent that I drink out of his cup of coffee before I gave it to him. And I said, I did it.

And he goes, I saw you. You did. And I don't know if he was teasing me, but he was. He was darn persistent that I had drank part of his coffee. You have to go get him a new guy. And I'm like, I did it. I, you know, I'm just this little kid I like. I didn't I didn't do it.

Now he took it from me. Oh, okay. There's no Covid worries back then. What do candy stripers do? I volunteered, that's it. I did whatever they told me to do, okay? I was the key grip. You're the kid that didn't get paid. You were the Taysom Hill. You weren't the kicker. You were the Taysom Hill. I was the Free Labor.

That's what I was okay with. As much money that goes through the hospitals and medicine. Do they need volunteers? Like do they? Like, I get it, but okay, I can only say this on here. I can't say this on air, but you're making the same argument that people who complain about cleaning the church on Sundays. Oh, God.

They're like, the church has plenty of money. Why do I have to be a cleaning? Yeah, right. Good point. But Jesus doesn't own the hospital.

This is our irreverent conversation.

I got a pretty good night's sleep last night. Good. Do you. When you click on a Fox News story, does it require you to put an email in all the freaking time? Doesn't remember a darn thing. Yeah. Trump projects the eye for an eye approach. What he's seeking instead from those who wronged him gets to work with free, fair and open price.

President elect Donald Trump said Monday that in order to make America great again, it is vital to have a free, fair and open media. Telling Fox News Digital he feels he has an obligation to the American people to work with the press, even those who had treated him badly beyond comprehension. In an exclusive interview Monday morning, the president elect said he's in the process of transforming America into the greatest and most powerful country in the world.

Trump discussed his relationship with the media and how he plans to interact with the press in his second term. He said, in order to make America great again, it is very important, if not vital, to have a free, fair and open media or press. Trump met with Joe and Mika on Friday in Palm Beach. I received a call from Joe requesting a meeting for him and Mika.

I agreed that it would be a good thing if such a meeting took place. We met at Mar a Lago on Friday morning at eight. I said the meeting was extremely cordial, many things were discussed, and I very much appreciated the fact that they wanted to have open communication. In many ways, it's too bad that it wasn't done long ago.

Trump added that they congratulated me on running a great and flawless campaign, one for the history books. I think maybe they didn't say that.

Okay, let's talk about this and come back.

There at 946 on Newstalk 179 on this Monday. And if you'd like to reach us, the fall River propane calling text line is 2085 42 1079. You know it tastes good right now. Julie, brought some. It is 946. Is it? Is there no time? No timeframe on. But usually I wait till 948. Okay. We are getting fire up the grill out back.

Okay. That sounds good. Even in the snow you could cook a brought from Grand Peak's Prime Meats. Or maybe the ribs. You could. You know what? You make great meatloaf. You can use their ground beef and make some fabulous meatloaf. It's been amazing. That's true. Whatever it is, go to GG Prime Meats. Dot com. Check out their packages and specials, whatever it is your family likes when it comes to great beef, pork, chicken, Grand Peak's Prime Meats has has got you covered.

They're there for you. Hey. And, delivery is free. And the Idaho Falls area, if you spend more than $75, which is awesome because you need to fill up that freezer, so that's very achievable. But if you don't spend quite that much or you live outside of the Idaho Falls area, they can work around that. And for a small surcharge, they'll make sure you get your stuff.

And days like this remind us of how nice it is to have things delivered, right. Okay Julie interesting approach by Donald Trump. And sort of an addendum here to the Joe and Mika story that we talked about earlier. And Trump has said that the media is vital to making America great again. And he says he's going to he's vowing to work with free fair and open and open press.

He also said he's not looking for retribution, grandstanding or to destroy people who have treated me very unfairly. And then he went on to tell the story about getting the call from Joe Scarborough, requesting a meeting for him and Mika, and said, I agreed that it would be a good thing if such a meeting took place. We met at Mar-A-Lago on Friday morning at eight, and then Trump said the meeting was extremely cordial.

Can I pause for a moment? Would you have a hard time having a cordial meeting with people who had been calling you Hitler? Oh, I would an a fascist, I would, but I think for Trump he knows how much he's in control. So it's not bothering him. Oh, okay. You're probably right. He said many things were discussed, and I very much appreciated the fact that they wanted to have open communication.

In many ways, it's too bad that it wasn't done long ago, Trump added that they congratulated me on running a great and flawless campaign, one for the history books. I'm guessing that was great and flawless campaign. I probably wasn't going make his words, but you know, which I really believe it was. But it was also a campaign where I worked long and hard, perhaps longer and harder than any presidential candidate in history.

We talked about various cabinet members, both announced and to be announced as expected. They like some very much, but not all. The meeting ended in a very positive manner and we agreed to speak in the future. And Trump added, I expect this will take place with others in the media, even those that have been extremely hostile. The president elect said he feels he has an obligation to the American public and to our country itself to be open and available to the press, if not treated fairly.

However, that will end. The media is very important to the long term success of the United States of America. Okay, I like it. I like it, too. I mean, he could have softened the congratulations for himself there, but I like it. I do you know, it's interesting to kind of dissect the concepts there. I don't really have a problem.

Much like it doesn't seem Trump had a problem that they don't like. Some of the cabinet picks. Yeah. Expect you to grovel and say you love them all. I but I do expect you to look at who has been working in the Biden administration in his cabinet and level out this, this outrage that you're showing. Well, and I think you expect a certain level of the loyal opposition like it.

It wouldn't matter who Trump put up. The media is going to go after him anyway because it's a it's a Trump pick. Yeah. I just don't like the dishonesty about it. Yeah. Because you were all in on on others. You're right. That were equally if not more way less deserving. Yeah. So a look, Pete had no business being the transportation secretary.

Can we just say that right out of the gate? Absolutely. We understand that the left lives in a certain level of delusion, so they have to pick a transgender, or they have to pick a luggage thief, or they have to pick, you know, somebody like that for some of these positions. And hopefully they're in the less consequential positions.

You hope that they pick actually qualified people for the most important positions in the cabinet. But but I will say I, you know, I think this is a good approach by Donald Trump because it puts him in charge of this. He he's rising above the pettiness. He's saying, look, like I said, maybe I'm being a little petty here.

I don't know if I would want to have an ongoing relationship with people who had invested so much in destroying my family, in destroying me, in destroy, in, in trying to craft a false narrative that, that I was Hitler or that I believed in fascism. I mean, we could there's a long list of that kind of horrific journalism and politics that's been played by so many in the media.

I'm not sure I'd want to revisit that, but I suppose in Donald Trump situation, he is going to be the president of the United States. He has a bully pulpit and be the bigger person and open that line of communication, and that means it puts you squarely in charge of that relationship. Well, he says as much in his statement that he's the one in charge now and that if it if it if it goes back to the way it was, it's going to change drastically for them.

Yeah. So I, I don't have an issue at all with him issuing that, putting out this statement. It's very Trumpian. That's fine. And, really, the big losers in all of this are Mika and Joe crawling on their hands and knees, begging for forgiveness. And will you please interview with us now? Yes. Yeah, that's. And that's what they want.

They they recognize if they try to continue going down the same path, they're just going to be irrelevant. So a little more of what Trump said. He thanked the, quote many reporters, journalist shows and new media sources, of which there are many who were truthful, honest and professional over the years of both my presidency and candidacies. They were the ones that kept me in the game, and they were the ones that gave me a victory, the likes of which our country has rarely seen before.

These people and organizations, and they know who they are, should be and are very proud of themselves. And they have a right to be proud. And I have a right to say to them, congratulations. You know, I look at this, Julie, we got a break here pretty quick. But when you compare the old media to the new media, here's Joe and Mika.

They're kind of pathetic. They have a few hundred thousand viewers. And you compare that to Joe Rogan, who has tens of millions of viewers overtime. It's not even close. Tucker Carlson, millions of people who download listen to his his podcast. That really is the future. And this idea that if you have a network cable TV show, that you are going to be an impactful player, that firmware is getting upgraded real quick, right?

Because I don't think that's going to be true for much longer, to the extent it's even true today. All right. We'll break. We'll be back. We'll wrap it up when we return on Newstalk 179. Baa baa baa baa baa up. Speaking of Tucker, I sent Neal, a little clip about Tucker. Yeah. Not to play on air, but it's great to talk about here.

So he's referencing the, the dumbing down of America and that it even happens with architecture. That because we, we walk into a cubicle and we sit in these four beige or three beige carpeted walls and everything looks exactly the same. And like it's all it does is make us weaker individuals. Yeah. Because we're not stimulating the creative part of our brain on a regular basis.

And that's just not going to make you smarter. Yeah. What did you think of that? I thought it was super interesting. I'm not sure it's intentional. I believe it does exist, though. I believe that that that has happened. And I think that that's why you should surround yourself with things that you love, in your home. Yeah.

And kind of make it your sanctuary. Whatever it is you love, that spurs creativity. And you make sure it's in your spaces. Yeah, I would, and I would agree with that. I mean, if it's books, make sure you have the books out and on a shelf. If it's if it's crafts then do that. If it's art, if it's photography, if it's exercise and running, build up your, you know, build up your weight selection, build it like whatever it is that spurs that portion of your brain, then do it.

Oh, so my daughter wants me to start a series. It's on Apple TV called silo. Have you heard about it? It's dystopian. It's like an underground silo that has like dozens of levels. And she said, and I didn't want her to tell me too much because I don't want it spoiled. But she said occasionally you'll have people inside the silo who say I want to go out.

And so they'll allow them to go out and like clean off the cameras, the surveillance cameras, and they start questioning the narrative that's being told to them inside the silo. Do we really have to be in here? Yeah. So there's me intrigued a little bit. So I she's I can't remember if it was Amazon that made a series based on a video game that has this concept in it.

They're living in these tiered underground places, and each tier is like its own little city with neighborhoods. Yeah. And they even control the interacting of the neighborhoods. Yeah. Like every really the music is controlled, everything is controlled. My kids watched it. I want to say it was Amazon Prime, but I it's based off a video game. So if anyone on here has seen it, I don't know.

But yeah, you know me. Dystopian is my favorite genre, but I don't know what draws me to that. Okay, I bet 90% of the time if I pull up Netflix or whatever, I'm looking for a dystopian science fiction. I think it I think it's an obvious match to what you do for a living. Yeah, yeah, I, I live in a perpetual state of we're screwed.

The government's going to screw us over, right? No matter what. Yes. Or it's 958 on Newstalk 179, Neal Larson and Julie Mason. That's going to do it for this show today. Do we have anybody tomorrow do we know of yet? Well, I have two pending requests out there. So I'm going to see how it plays out. We're reaching out to, this Greater Idaho movement.

Oh yeah. Oregon joining. So that's one of the pending requests. So we'll we'll see what we get. Making a national. They were on Fox this morning so yeah. Anyway all right everyone have a wonderful Monday. Be be careful. It's a little snowy out there Julian I back tomorrow bright and early.
