11.1.2024 -- NLS -- From Garbage to Greatness: Biden, Cuban, and Trump’s Unexpected Boost
On this episode with Neal and Julie, they dive into a whirlwind of current political topics, starting with recent controversies over remarks by Joe Biden and Mark Cuban, which have stirred tensions among Trump supporters. Neal and Julie discuss how Biden’s recent comments labeling some Americans as “garbage” and Cuban’s criticism of Trump supporters have sparked significant backlash, questioning whether these statements could have unintended consequences in Trump’s favor.
As the conversation unfolds, they explore Trump’s continued popularity, particularly with groups that have traditionally been challenging for him to secure, such as young voters and women. Neal and Julie also touch on Trump’s high-profile interview with Joe Rogan, which they argue has played a significant role in bolstering his reach. This momentum, combined with increased traction among first-time or lapsed voters, makes them optimistic about Trump’s potential performance in upcoming elections, despite divisive issues.
The discussion then pivots to Idaho’s Prop 1 and the implications of out-of-state money and ranked-choice voting, which Neal and Julie warn could dilute voters' influence and create unintended complexities in election outcomes. They explain ranked-choice voting’s impact on election dynamics, where the removal of lower-ranked candidates might result in votes shifting to candidates that some voters may not fully support. They share how these changes might force people into ranking candidates they oppose to avoid their votes being exhausted—a point many listeners struggle with.
To round things out, Neal and Julie emphasize a call for states to retain more autonomy over federal decisions. This reflects a larger trend they see toward empowering local voices and diminishing federal overreach. The hosts field listener reactions, noting the difficulties of engaging in civil discourse over such polarizing issues but appreciating the support and curiosity of their audience, especially around these complex topics.
You want to show us? That. It's just that simple. They're intimidating to him. He doesn't like to be challenged by them. And good morning. Well, I missed the most important part. Donald Trump. You never see him around. Strong, intelligent women. Ever. There we go. Good morning. It's Friday, October, totally in the rearview mirror. It's November 1st. Where? Four days for four.
I can count them on one hand. Four days away from the election. And I could not be more eager for a Wednesday than I am right now. I hope you're holding up well. And it's going to be soon. Very, very soon. We get through this last weekend, and of course, Julia and I are hosting a big, big shindig, a watch party at the snake River Event Center at Shiloh in.
And we want you there and and we want, if you would. We're asking, that you sign up for a ticket. Just text the word ticket to (208)Â 542-1079. And it's just going to be fun. Like, we aren't going to have a big formal agenda or program. It's going to be a lot of mixing and mingling. There's going to be some music, some light food.
We'll have the the networks up on TV. Giuliana will be there, will be broadcasting part of the time. We'll be mixing and mingling part of the time. And it's just a good opportunity for, like minded folks to get together. And there's no faction of the Republican Party that's invited more or less than any other. If you're proud to be a Republican, you're proud to be a conservative.
We want you there. All right. There's no and and that's going to be, the tenor of the event. We just want you there. And I know maybe you might walk in thinking, well, this is going to be awkward because I don't want to be with those rhino. Okay? Just set that aside for the night and come and enjoy the results as they come in.
That's what we want from this. So, we have that. We also have just lots of crazy happening right now. JD Vance went on, Joe Rogan spent four hours in his studio. It was a long, interview. He joked yesterday. And I believe we played this clip that after spending that much time with Joe Rogan, he already has more interview time than Kamala's had cumulatively during her entire run as a nominee.
From a presidential standpoint, we also had the controversy, as you well know, with Joe Biden calling Trump supporters garbage. Now the white House is trying to gaslight you and say, that's not what he was saying. Everybody knows that's what he was saying. We heard the clip, so you're garbage. I'm garbage. We're all garbage. And they don't want to live with the consequences of their words.
Kamala Harris tried to distance herself from it and all of that. Now we thought, okay, this is a gold mine of humor. It's a gold mine of opportunity. It's an opportunity to to highlight what the left actually thinks of hard working, average, everyday Americans. There it is. And you might go, well, that's kind of an unfair characterization, Neal.
You shouldn't talk. No, that's what they think. The left has always felt like the the your average hardworking, everyday Americans need to be managed. They're they're filthy peasants that need to be told what to do. And they're just they're garbage like we are. Refuse to them, which is fine. I'm okay if they think that I'm refuse I my feelings are actually not hurt.
I, I do not seek the approval of those people, nor should you. In fact, it's kind of. I don't know if it's a badge of honor, but I would say it's a good sign when people like Joe Biden and others in that orbit think your garbage, okay, Joe Biden is wrong about a lot of things, a lot of things.
So but we thought, okay, that was that was great. Guess who who kind of upstaged him? In fact, Joe Biden probably ought to have somebody from his staff send a text to Mark Cuban and tell him thank you, because Mark Cuban got to be the center of attention based on his own poorly phrased, miscalculated. Well, let's just call it what it is flat out stupidity.
When he was on some zoom thing, he's now an official surrogate of the Kamala Harris campaign. He's not just somebody who informally supports her. No, he is out there officially as part of Kamala Harris's campaign. And this is what he said about the women in Donald Trump's orbit, Donald Trump, you never see him around strong, intelligent women ever.
Okay. Those words are very clear. They are very, very clear. They are concise. They are absolute. It is very clear what Mark Cuban said in those four seconds. Donald Trump, you never see him around strong, intelligent women ever. He emphasized it by saying ever. There are no strong, intelligent women around Donald Trump ever. Well, Kayleigh McEnany took a little issue with that.
Mark Cuban. Okay, I had to take a breath before this because this is so profoundly offensive. I worked for Donald Trump. I consider myself a strong woman. I consider those around me strong women Kellyanne Conway, Brooke Rollins, Ivanka Trump, Hope Hicks, Sarah Sanders. That's before we get to the women that Donald Trump elevated to very high levels, like Nikki Haley, who still supports him, like Amy Coney Barrett, who he put on the Supreme Court or the women currently around him, Susie Wiles comes to mind.
Caroline Leavitt, that is so offensive. And you know why? Because it's not just about the women who worked for him, he said. The women around Donald Trump. This comes right after the Joe Biden garbage comment. Okay, the women around Donald Trump, what about the women who vote for Donald Trump? Are they weak? Are they dumb? Did Mark Cuban just insult any woman who supports Donald Trump?
Because it's a little very small step from that. And this is an official Biden excuse me. Harris campaign surrogate, Mark Cuban, that is misogynistic in my view. Get out of here, Mark Cuban, Kamala Harris, he's your surrogate. I want to hear from you. Do you agree the women are weak and ineffective? Whatever he said, get out of here and I can't wait to hear from you.
Kamala. Okay, so Kailey, let him have it. Olina Harbor, who is one of Trump's top attorneys, also let him have it. Got off a plane. So pardon my delay in responding to Mark Cuban's disgusting, misogynistic remarks. Summer Zervos, Michael Cohen on three levels just confirmed and denied by the Supreme Court of the United States. I'm licensed in four states.
I graduated college in three years. Savage v Trump, by the way. I could keep going, but those are the cases I win. And your left wing media and your rhetoric and you're putting women down. See, President Trump doesn't do that. He surrounds himself with strong women like me. So, Mark Cuban, you can go to hell. I'm voting for Trump because I want my daughter to never, ever be around people that speak like you do.
Oh, boom. Now, not even to his credit, but I will add, because it's important Mark Cuban is in massive damage control right now. He issued a clarification. It wasn't enough. It made things worse. So now it's escalated from clarification to retraction. And he even set out. I didn't mean Kellyanne. I didn't mean to hurt her. Which makes me think, you know, here's Mark Cuban billionaire guy, Shark Tank Dallas Mavericks.
We know all the lore around Mark Cuban. It makes me think that there might be certain levels of Mark Cuban that just aren't very smart, because in his effort, we I kind of know what he was trying to do. He was trying to demean Donald Trump exclusively, but in demeaning Donald Trump for whatever reason, his billionaire brain didn't process.
You're also offending all that. You cannot go after Donald Trump and say what you said without actually offending the people, the people that you're talking about. So they've got a problem, a big problem. We we got a twofer this week. We got a doubleheader this week of big time missteps and mistakes, unforced errors within the Kamala orbit, with the president of the United States calling a large swath of America garbage and another top surrogate a household name in Mark Cuban, calling a large swath of America tacitly calling them weak.
This is for the undecided. This is a decision moment, and they know this. They know they've got their base. They know they aren't going to trap it or tap into Trump space. They certainly aren't with comments like this. Every piece of rhetoric at this stage of the game is about gleaning that last swath of undecided ads and independents who might be making a last minute decision in the final week of an election cycle.
These kind and, you know, it might tip it one, two, three percentage points one way or one or 2 or 3 percentage points the other way. That's why these comments can be so incredibly disastrous for Team Kamala, who's on very, very thin ice anyway. It's not what they needed, which makes all of this very beautiful. I love it.
Like, I have to tell you, I really love this kind of stuff. And I know a lot of people, they get tired of the division and they get tired of the hate, and they've got to take a break. I get that, too. I understand where you're at with it. But when you watch this and you see these people that are seasoned and supposedly smart, making dumb, dumb, dumb decisions with their words as they have, you just sit back and enjoy it, grab the popcorn, get a nice tall soda and watch it, watch it unfold.
So I would say that it certainly is bringing the entertainment value. And there are lots of fireworks. And I'm here to be entertained by all of this. I hope you are, too. It's, 18 on Newstalk 179. And also, look, I'm I'm gratified by all the garbage references that are being made the way that we conservatives have owned.
This has been a not just owned it, but repurposed it, capitalized on it. This is exact how it ought to be. We'll be back. Thank you. Size telling me no lies. Knocking me out with those American files. Take a moment to share.
I'm out there. I love 824. Coming up in about ten minutes, expecting Dalton Dummer to join us for studio cover sessions. Julie. And, we always love this. We're we're surprised at how much we needed to escape for a minute. The rough and tumble of politics. And it's always such a welcome segment just to just a brief moment to breathe during the week.
Yes. So excited to get us started again. He's going to give us a little country. He'll be playing his guitar. Cameron Marlow is the artist that he's going to be covering. Good, good. Yeah. All right. Well, we're looking forward to we actually listened to it because it wasn't that familiar. It's a great song. Great song. Yeah, yeah.
Super excited, super good. So, hey, you know what I was thinking? We should all get together and sign a thank you card for Joe Biden and Mark Cuban this week. Can you imagine Kamala, in her private moments, just going to cries? I'm having a hard enough time. It is. What are you doing? Well, you know what is amazing to me?
And we've all probably done this, if I'm going to be honest, where you don't really rise in the moment the implication of what you are saying. And I, I can raise my hand. Oh we've done it before. Done it. But this is very high level and it's high stakes, especially with 4 or 5, six days left before a massively big and important election.
You you can't and it makes me wonder I think with Joe he's got dementia. He's got a good excuse. All right. He's going to say some dumb things. Now when he does say dumb things, are we going to repurpose those comments to our advantage? Yes, yes, we are. But Mark Cuban, he's got no excuse. I don't I don't know what's going on with him.
But to to say that all the women around Donald Trump are weak is just a stupid, stupid thing to say. Especially since he's done this self-appointed spokesperson thing like he has done a media blitz for her. I don't know, I it's not like they are connected in ways. So I don't know where it all came from. But Mark Cuban decided to step out and do this work for Kamala.
And then you you're going to step in it after you said, hey, everybody, look at me. Yeah, yeah, right. Yeah. It just is just a weird, a weird deal. Also, I like I look at Mark Cuban and there might be a back story here because Donald Trump had to tell Mark Cuban. Stop calling me. It's too much. All right?
I know you're a billionaire with a massively big ego. You like having access to the president of the United States. You got to stop calling me so much. I don't have enough time. At least that's that's Trump's version. That's his story of events. Would that surprise me? Not at all. And I'm thinking it's kind of like it reminds me a little bit of the Mitt Romney dinner where he was led to think that he might be a secretary of state in, in, Trump administration.
And in reality, it was Trump setting him up to dump him after Romney gave that horrible speech at the Huntsman Center trying to take down Trump. And and I think it was Trump's very sort of sophisticated, clever way of putting Romney back in his place. And don't don't do this to me. And I wonder if for Mark Cuban, he's holding a grudge because Donald Trump snubbed him.
That could be that could be you didn't give me enough attention. So I'm really angry with you. Yeah, I don't know. I, I also feel like Mark Cuban's gone through some sort of a identity crisis of some sort. I don't physically, he looks different. He he seems to be focusing on other things. So awakening. I don't know what you want to label it.
It doesn't look healthy. That's what I would say. Well, if that's awakening, I don't want to be awake. Yes, I did see a headline that the new owner of the Dallas Mavericks gave $100 million to Trump. Yes, she's a female and they're good friends. Trump and her friends. Wow. Maybe he's hot over that too. Could be, could be.
Maybe he doesn't, like upstaged. I don't know, the Empire he built now a chunk of that fortune's gone to Trump. That's great. So, yeah, either way, it's interesting. I, I, let me ask you this question. Do you find independent of the the current fiasco, do you find Cuban to be a net benefit to Kamala Harris's campaign?
I wouldn't think so. I let's talk about this net benefit because I'm, I feel like these celebrities that are coming out and speaking out for Kamala, I think people have a bad taste in their mouth over these celebrities. LeBron came out yesterday, made an ex post with some video about how horrible Trump is. Okay, whatever. I don't think that's a win.
The NBA is tanking and I think you can squarely place blame on LeBron shoulders. Yeah. So that's not I don't think that's going to benefit you Jennifer Lopez was at her in Reno, Nevada. Or maybe it was Las Vegas. She was in Nevada at that rally and throwing her support behind Kamala. Well, there's pictures out of Jennifer Lopez at a P Diddy freak off party that have been circulating the internet all week.
Okay, that's not a win for you. These are Ben Stiller. There's pictures of him at a P Diddy freak off party. And he came out and talked. Usher. Usher. Well, yeah. Usher. The Beyonce thing. Yeah. Who are these? Yeah, I think collectively, for the most part, people can look at this and go, wow, she's surrounding herself with some really questionable people.
Yeah, I would agree. I think they have tried to rely too much on celebrity endorsements. Taylor Swift I don't think there's a P Diddy connection there necessarily. However, Taylor Swift fans are fans for a particular reason and she might convince them to register to vote, but I, I feel like they don't really care what she thinks about how they vote like I don't.
So that that went nowhere. In fact, if anything, it might have moved things backwards a little bit for Kamala. So these celebrity is Springsteen is another example. He came in saying did it terrible job by Springsteen standards. And that didn't move the needle at all. They're not they're not seeing these little boosts you would think they'd be getting from all these celebrities showing up for Kamala and then you.
So I think we're just highlighting the difficulties that Kamala's had over the last three weeks. Then you look at the numbers on the podcasts. I think Trump's Rogan interview is at like somewhere near 45 million views now. 45. Wow. That's huge. As of like the first 4 or 5 hours of the Rogan interview with JD Vance last night, he was above 1 million.
It was 1.4 or something like that. I'm sure it's much more this morning. That was a number I checked last night. You just compare those two. There's other podcasts. I'm not even referencing those that Trump went on. But yeah, he scored more numbers with just those two with JD Vance and Donald Trump. You look at the podcast that Kamala went on, her numbers are anemic in comparison.
Oh yeah. So she really was like, if these celebrities were making her seem really important when people be watching those podcasts. She went on, well, you would think so. You would think so. It's 832 on this Friday. Time for our news. When we come back, Dalton Duma will join us for a studio for cover on this Friday. On Newstalk 107, a.
And now studio for covers on Newstalk 179. And good morning. It is a Friday. We love Fridays around here Julie Mason because it's studio for covers and we of course are friends with Dalton Duma and he's here to perform for us. How are you, Dalton? I'm doing good. How are you guys doing? Great. Yeah, we're doing really good.
We've been excited about this for all all week long, so that's great. Tell us about yourself. All I Dalton do you my I grew up in Ashton, Idaho originally and graduated high school in oh nine during the military. Okay, I gig for a while and, now I work out at the INL and just do music on the side looking there.
Okay. Got to chase that dream down. Yeah. Tell us about your music. A little bit. You know, you do it on the side here, but you'd love to have it as a career. Yeah, I definitely would. So I've got a band called Dalton and Thompson. We have two songs out on all music platforms, and, you know, looking to do some more of that.
It's just very expensive to go record. We. I was telling Julie earlier, earlier we went and, recorded in Colorado with a producer there and then it was mixed and mastered by the same guy that does, like Kane Brown, Mitchell Tenpenny, Jason Aldean. Okay, the other big artists and stuff. So they turned out really good. Oh, good.
Well, great. Well, what are you performing for us today? So I was going to do a cover of Cameron Marlowe's Giving You Up. Okay. Country song. Yes. Yeah, yeah. All right, well, go ahead, take it away. We'll have you come a little closer to the mic, if that's right. And you can drop the mic a little bit if you want to pick up a little more guitar to sell.
Yeah, well, you just let me know, I guess, how that sounds. Yeah. I can't really hear it. I'm sure that'll be great right there. So work there. Yep. Okay. All right. So okay. Well I'd come even or pull the mic. You. No it's good. Yeah. You're good.
You.
Don't you dare try and repeat after you already got me standing here. Can't believe you would come at me. Looking for a little bit sympathy. Like I was in the one you left alone. Groan, looking like a miss. Don't show your face around here anymore. Money. This is so mean. Better give the. Hey, girls, I'm giving you up just like a d them unbalancing I'm giving you up.
Same way until the whiskey on ice. And it's all so tough. You turn me to a man I don't even recognize. I'm giving you up. Same way you did me. And in the moonlight.
What the hell are you thinking coming round of? Is you completely uninvited, messing with my brain again? Couldn't give me the satisfaction of a guitar. You would see some sort of. When I thought I finally found the end. Oh, me coming over looking for conversation. Dropping little hands jam on me back again. Cause I'm so sick and tired of the living as a tell me.
So here is all I'm saying baby better listening is I'm giving you up. Just like I did. And mother let me give you up the same way I did the whiskey on ice. And it's also just turned me to a man I don't even recognize. I'm giving you up the same way you did me. And in the up and in the moonlight.
Oh.
Let me go. Oh, the things here. The grips on me. You being the first for you see this? I'm worth the weight of your love. No more. Am begging to believe in closer shove. There ain't no use for you in this. Oh no more. So I'm letting go. And I'm giving you love. Tears are like candy. The of bullets.
And I'm giving you up the same way I did the whiskey owners and close ups of you turn me to a man I don't even recognize. I'm giving you the same way you did me. And in the middle. And in the moonlight. Oh.
Oh, I'm giving you, giving you, giving you, Dalton Duma. Fantastic job. Thank you so much. Listeners loved it. We've we get it. We have a text line so we can see it. So that's all the like. So good. Hot. Well, hot. Dang. Bravo. That's okay. They said, But anyway. Great. Give us your social media. I failed to ask you that before.
Oh, yeah. So it's just Dalton Duma. And then if you look up our band page, just Dalton and Thompson. Dalton and Thompson, music platforms as well. All right. Yeah. Dalton, thank you so much. Thank you guys. We appreciate you coming in this morning. All right. It's 844 on Newstalk 179.
It's 848 on Newstalk 107. Hi. Neal Larson and Julie Mason. Is there anything besides the election? Studio for covers? Well, we do have that. That's true. I don't know what else for Halloween where we're at. You had like half a dozen trick or treaters, maybe six, which is six more than I thought I was going to have. So it's probably weather related.
We were probably down by 40%. From what we usually get in our neighborhood. We get we get quite a few. Like I think last year we had 70 or 80, but but it was it was quite a bit less yesterday here last night. So I live in a quiet dark cul de sac. I we never really get a lot of of trick or treaters, but it was fun to have the few.
Yeah, yeah. And thank goodness for FaceTime because I got to follow along for a few houses with my grandson as he he went trick or treating, which was great. That fun. Yeah. They're so cute. Yeah, I had my grand kids over and we had a Batman. We had a princess, we had a dinosaur. We had, some character named link from Zelda or something.
Yeah. But good. I'm glad that your grandson was happy being that. Yes. And then the youngest grandson just had a glow in the dark skeleton, you know, sweatshirt. So. Yeah. He cute it was it. Oh well, when I, when I asked him if he was a bounty hunter because he and I are bounty hunters when we're together.
That's your play. And it looked like he could have been a bounty hunter. Like, I don't keep track of what the costumes are. He's like, no, grandpa. Like I, I had in sensitive I know that I didn't know it was link from Zelda rather than a bounty hunter. So I got corrected real quick. That's okay. So anyway. Yeah.
All right, now we're back to I know I'm like, what else? What else is there? You know what we should do? I want to do this. I'm just curious. We love our texting community. And this. You're not going to be in any contest, right? This is not an entry for anything other than Neal's curiosity. I want you to text in right now.
How many electoral votes you think Trump is going to get. And then during the the news break, we'll average all the entries, okay. And then we'll match that up with the actual results on Tuesday night. I just want to see how close our audience is collectively to guessing how well Trump's going to do on election night. All right.
Send him on. And people. So it just use put don't put your wishful thinking cap on. Just put on your clear eyed analysis cap and then send us how many electoral votes you think he's going to get. And, let's see. We got a 280. We got a 296 as we got a 312 now. 312. I love the positivity.
Yeah. They're rolling in. Another well, maybe we won't put out numbers because we don't want to just, just, just we want the fresh gas skew it. Yeah okay. And then we'll do a little math problem at, during the commercial break. And see, I mean, we can put out hours like, I, I've been kind of optimistic.
I put it it around. I played with the map. There's a really cool website called 270 to win. And you can sit there and you can click on any state and and make it what you think it would be. And it will keep a running tally of the electoral votes. It's it's really simple and fun to use anyway.
So I'm, I'm like and this is probably optimistic on my part. So we put a thousand okay. So that's the talk about skewing it. That's not even if you got all of them. So anyway I landed at 306. You're not quite as optimistic now. I don't even remember what is on the paper in the tech office, because they're keeping track in the tech office.
Was it two, 82, 87 or something? Two 280 102 80, maybe 280 maybe it was I don't know, I don't remember. Yeah. But it was it wasn't much of a winning margin though. No, no, but I am the the cynic in the group. And so of course I'm thinking it's going to be close. Yeah. Yeah. Which is, which is fine.
But look it's a win. I, I, I have felt for about two weeks ish that he was going to win. I barring some very, very nasty shenanigans I think Trump has this for me. All of this has the qualifier. If the votes are counted accurately not perfectly, but if there is a good level of integrity with our elections, I think Trump Trump wins it.
I've been noticing something unique, though, Julie, because, you know, my latest metric that I'm a little obsessed with is the batting average. So yesterday, early morning Kamala was at 35%. Trump was at about 63%. Trump's down. Kamala's up a little today. And I don't know what changed him because her campaign's been stepping in at pretty bad. Yeah she's had some bad moments with Joe and Mark.
And so Trump's down two is still good. It's still healthy for Trump 60.6. And Kamala is at 38.1 I'll take it. Oh I will too. I just I'm curious what moved the needle and made it a little closer because I didn't I didn't see anything. I haven't seen anything but but these people study like the ground game in these precincts, in these states.
So they're they're studying at a level we just don't talk about it here. Like. Right. So. Right. Yeah. Anyway, we have that, and I, you know, I'm one of those useless straight males. So what do I know? You know nothing. I'm useless. Yes. What do you think? There's men that actually watch the view. I not confident men not.
No. Yes. I'm sure there are men who watch The view, but they're probably white guys for Kamala. What's that group? White dudes for colored dudes for good. Maybe some of those people. I was going to say they're not men. I want to represent me in a bar fight or a clash or anything. There might be some that while they're putting up their man band, they might catch a few minutes of the view like, I don't know, while they're waiting for their Prius to get serviced at Jiffy Lube.
Like, you know, maybe they watched The View on their phones. I don't know, maybe.
We can we pull that up for a promo or is that a little too offensive? Go right ahead. All right.
We'll do that. Okay. Somebody said, I don't think I'd see Julie in a bar because I said a bar fight. If they got good food, I'll go in. I'm just not drinking, right? That's true. That's allowed. If bars have good food, you can go. Yeah, I'll go in if they got good food. All right, let's go to the phones.
We have. Carl, I believe this is Carrie Hanks. I Carrie. It is. Good morning, Neal and Julie. How are you coming to our party Tuesday night? Carrie, I really want to, but I might be working, so I'm trying to figure it out. Okay. Sorry. Didn't mean to put you on the spot. No, I I if I don't have to work, I definitely will be there because you're parties are always a lot of fun.
Well, thank you, I appreciate that. What what's on your mind today? Well, we kind of have another party, in a way. Saturday. I just wanted to let your listeners know that we're doing a Trump train, in East Idaho. And it's starting at Freeman Park, which is on Science Center Drive, and the staging and the line starts at like 9:00, and they'll be on the road at 11, and they're going to have a ceremony in between.
And they want you to come with, trucks and tractors and, and cars and whatever you want to bring. But bring your Trump gear and your prop one, no sign. So again, that's, there's, there's starting to stage at 9:00 and that's at Freeman Park. Okay. So I want to let people know that I wanted to also let you know that, a couple of friends and I went around Saint Anthony and did what's called a lit drop.
We put information on people's doors, about 200 of those this week. And some of the people met me at the door and they said, oh, I've already voted, and I voted no. So I feel cautiously optimistic that it's, that, you know, the information has gotten out. Yeah. And, I've had actually several calls and texts. People are asking about it, and, and I've shared your, unholy alliance.
Documentary and people. Thank you. I thought that was really good. Yes. So, you know, we're just getting the word out. And I have a sign in my yard, of course. And I've had, you know, people say, well, since you're voting for it, I know you know what's going on so that that's I really appreciate that, that, people think they can trust me.
Yes. Well, absolutely. Carrie and and and Carrie. Thank you. I know you work very, very hard, and I we appreciate all the work that you go to. So I'm I'm encouraged by your optimism over prop one. I, I'm feeling too, like I watch what's happening on social media. And I've seen the discussion migrate from a lot of people who are confused to mostly those who find out more about it, are opposed to it.
And, so I'm getting a little more, encouraged by that, too. But we're out of time. Carrie, thank you for the call. Appreciate it. Do the Trump train tomorrow. It's 859. Hour two. Coming up. You see the people you believe.
Welcome back to our 290 seven hour time on Newstalk 1079. If you'd like to reach us on the telephone, it's (208)Â 542-1079. And does anybody actually ever say telephone anymore? Not a lot, I lot. I'm sure it's still out there, but not if you are 51. And you know how how you realize I'm 51 now. I didn't realize you said telephone.
Yeah, I know, I mean, yes, I know it's true. It's true. All right, let's go to the phones. (208)Â 542-1079 caller welcome. How are you today? That means it's you. Yes. Go ahead. Thank you. Well, this crock on prop one, I am a veteran and I have never had any trouble trying to code, so it's an outright lie.
What? They're trying to preach on prop one. Yeah, well, it is. And you've been used to actually your your status as a veteran has been exploited and abused by this group. Absolutely. I agree, the other thing is the Democratic Party, I'm not really sure that there exists a real Democratic Party anymore. I think it's Obama of party.
It's definitely different than it used to be. It's not it's not your, your grandpa's, Democrat party anymore. By the way, caller, thank you for your service. Thank you. And, and we also should mention our studio for cover artists this morning. Dalton Duma served. We failed to thank him for his service on air as well. We told him after we went off air.
But, yeah, publicly, we should really appreciate all of our veterans. And along with this caller, not use them as weapons in a fight when you don't really care about them. Yeah. When you create a group the same month that you launch an initiative and that's the only reason you created the group feels a little suspect. Yeah. Yeah, there might have been ulterior motives there.
Let's go to the next caller. Caller, how are you today? Hi, this is Steve. Hi. There you are. Steve. Go ahead. First off, I appreciate what you guys have done with prop one, but one of my comments is I lived in Florida for 17 years, and they put a proposition on, you know, about farrowing hogs and basically killed the hog industry in Florida.
How do we stop these propositions? Because I think this is the root. I mean, are we republic or democracy? Yeah. I mean, how do you educate people to make a good decision on these propositions? Because I just see it in the future that, I mean, I've probably changed 18 people's vote on proposition one. They were going to vote yes because they hadn't researched it.
Yeah. So, you know, and and then they put these propositions on there and we have to educate them, which we find is very difficult. You know, they put a proposition in Florida that to change the minimum wage. Well, of course people are going to vote to change the minimum wage. Yeah. So how do we stop these propositions? Because I could see an agricultural, which is what I'm in, you know.
Are they what are we going to solve the water curtailment issue with the proposition. Oh, and then we have to educate the masses on on how that will affect agriculture. Anyway, that's my comment. Well, thank you for the comment. I feel like your question was asked somewhat rhetorically, but I'll try to actually answer it here. I think once the dust settles from all of this and and, you know, prop one either lives or dies, whatever, we have to have a very serious discussion about the voter initiative in Idaho, because I, I used to kind of be it it's a hard case to make because you're saying we don't want the voters weighing in directly on
on an issue. That's a tough sell, right? I mean, that's hard to get voters to say, give me less power, right. But I'm going to tell you, when you have groups that are not operating in good faith. And yes, I'm talking about Reclaim Idaho. I'm talking about Idahoans for open primaries. They are accepting massive amounts of out of state money to put forward a very dishonest and disingenuous sound bite campaign to get something through that they know can't get through.
If they're honest about it, that's a corrupted process. If all of that is allowed to happen, the process is corrupted. Now it's going to take a constitutional amendment to get rid of it. The lawmakers can't just say we're doing away with the the voter initiative. The voters would have to do away with the voter initiative. But the the point that the caller made, I think is a good one.
Are we a democracy or are we a republic? And I think, you really can't have two competing systems coexisting, and I'm always going to side in favor of a republic because you safeguard and protect some really sacred things with it, with the Republic. And so I if it's either or, I say we get rid of the voter initiative.
Yeah. So this is the one of the conversations we had about a week and a half ago about the voter initiative. And I mentioned that in Ohio they have passed, their legislature went in and said there will be no out of the country money coming into Ohio to affect our initiative process to affect anything that we do here.
They they've made it against the law. So can't be foreign money in any way. Yeah. Now, can they still funnel it through three different organizations and then get it there. Yes. But at least it's a step. But that had me asking Neal why can't you put curtailments on the initiative process where no out of state money. Yeah. Can come in and and affect the initiative process.
I would love to see our legislators take that up and see does it stand in court and and can they put those kind of guardrails on the initiative process. What does that even look like? I'm not a lawmaker I don't know, but I would love to see them discuss it. Yeah, I don't I don't know either. I don't know if we have enough decided campaign finance law to be able to say you could limit out-of-state money from coming in like, that's those are questions I, we don't know the answer to.
I'd love to see it explore it though. Well, and and part of the problem too is we had a caller, I think it was yesterday or maybe the day before complete obtuse did not understand at all the problems that can come from having out of state money is I got to. So what? So what if it's out of state?
Yeah. You really can't. Yeah. All right, let's go to the phones. 285421079. Hi, caller. How are you? Oh, this is Kurt. And seems to be how you do it. Good. Kurt. Welcome. I love the show. Hey, I'm a veteran. I didn't get to vote in the Republican primary or the Democrat primary because I registered as an independent. Shame on me.
Next. I'm going to be changing my allegiance here shortly to one of the parties. But 20 years Army. And what do you guys with proposition one are saying is a bunch of baloney? I have a vote no sign in my front yard. It is the first political song I've ever put in my yard, you know, because you guys.
Thank you, thank you. That means a lot to me that that really does to both of us. And, I'm I'm glad I, I want to ask you this question because we've heard from independents. We've heard from independents who happen to be veterans. Is it very offputting to have someone speak for you because you're one of those 270,000 people that they cite in their dishonest ads, that they make it sound like you're one of the outraged?
In a word, yes. Yeah. A bunch of hooligans here. I don't know if they're carpetbaggers or just what to call them, but a name isn't as important is the fact that these people are disreputable and dishonest. Yes. So that's that's all I have to say. Thank you. Kurt. Thank you. Great call. Goodness. I love to hear that from a veteran because we have beat the drum that this is a campaign of dishonesty, a campaign of deceit.
And there's a veteran telling you exactly the same thing I love it. Yeah. Yeah. It is. Pulling that. Oh, good. Good. Yeah. We need to that needs to be in a promo. I another thing about, prop one. I sent Neal a portion of JD Vance's interview with Joe Rogan last night, and in it, he's talking about something completely different.
But he says the phrase one man, one vote. He says it in his interview. I if you don't have respect for JD Vance, I don't know what you're doing with your political life. I don't know where your views are. I don't know how you can't look at this man and have respect for who he has shown himself to be in all of his lifetime, and also in the last three months, specifically because there's been such a highlight on his life in the last three months.
That man is saying one man, one vote. Why would we want it different in Idaho? Yeah. Why would you want to dilute your vote? I don't know why you would. Well, I had an interesting text exchange last night, but let me play this clip. Judge Julie referenced. We have 435 congressional seats who the way that you draw those congressional districts is that you try to draw them evenly based on population so that everybody has equal representation, right?
One person, one vote. Fundamental principle of American law. But you don't just count the American citizens, you also count the illegal aliens. And so, for example, the state of Ohio lost a congressional seat in the last census. And states that have high illegal immigrant populations picked up congressional seats. So you're actually taking away congressional representation from American citizens and giving it to illegal aliens.
Even if you don't give them the right to vote, you're still destroying the voting power of it. That's a very good point that he's making. And he made it as concise as possible that even if they don't get a vote, they do get representation in Congress, and that representation is congregating around these areas where they're loading it up with illegals.
You're automatically going to get a, say, a Democrat House member from that area. If you can increase the population enough, you're going to end up earning two Democrat lawmakers in that area. That's the representation he's talking about. You do not want to give up your power, your vote. So no on prop one. And that's why immigration I mean, for multiple reasons.
Immigration is a huge like huge problem to be solved. And it's been at top of mind for the voters and this election cycle. But that's just one piece. Yeah. You're decreasing the power. You have by allowing illegal immigration to flood these areas because they're going to get representation. Yeah. So I got a text last night. Julie, is from someone we both know and is she's opposed to prop one, but she didn't fully understand this idea that your ballot gets tossed or it gets exhausted if you don't fully rank.
And so I had to explain. Well, you have mail. You have mail. Your ballot will count for if you do it correctly. If you do a one or a 1 in 2 and three, it'll count for the people you rank. But it will not count beyond that. Which people would say, and I've seen this argument and it's deceptive.
They say, well, that's what happens now. You vote for one person and then your ballots exhausted. Well, yeah. But everybody else gets to only vote for one person. Everyone's ballot is exhausted. Everybody's ballot gets exhausted after your one vote. They don't bother to tell you that concept. So if you let's say you only vote for two out of the four, only half your ballot, well, it gets even more complicated than that, but only half your ballot is going to be considered if you vote for one and two.
If you vote for only one, okay, let's say you vote for only one because there's only one you want and everybody else is going to be lousy. So you vote for one, then you're not using the full measure of your vote. They are forcing you to apportion part of your support to people you may not want to support.
And so you only get if you are in that conundrum and you're like, I'm not going to rank Hillary Clinton. I'm not. Oh, well, that would never happen because in presidential races aren't ranked. But you know what I'm saying? I'm not going to rank that liberal that I don't want in power. I'm sorry if I just spit on you.
So it's not the first time that is true. That is true. So but you're you're forced to allocate a portion of your vote to people that you may not want to, but then they'd say, well, then don't vote for them. But then you're disenfranchizing part of my vote. What if I want 100% of my vote to go to the one person?
Well, you can't do that in ranked choice voting. Yeah, they don't allow you to do that. You're can, I dare say blocked from doing that? I am blocked from doing that. Yes. That's the true version of blocked. You are actually blocked. If you make that choice great observation. You know it's blocking is outrageous when it comes to veterans or independents.
But when it comes to filling out your ballot, oh, that's your problem. You blocked it. So you know what let's do Julie. Let's deepen this just a little bit because it's a sacrosanct right. That should have no consequences if you don't want to affiliate with the Republican Party in other words, show some support for the Republican Party. Yeah.
You should suffer no consequences for that, but still be able to weigh in. Right? Right. But I'm going to suffer consequences if I don't want to affiliate or have a part of my vote go to candidates I don't care for. Right. So I am blocked. That's like this. They're committing the sin that their their whole entire advertising campaign has been based around almost said the B word right there that they are griping about.
Yes, they're committing it by enforcing ranked choice voting. You're making me have to participate in something I really don't want to. And guess what? It is my choice. If I don't fill out my ballot all the way. Let's say this passes and I don't fill out my ballot all the way. It is my choice, yes, but that's a form when you when you put the definition out there as blocked for people, if they don't have an open primary, then I'm blocked.
When I don't fill out my ballot. I'm hoping to explain another layer of this, Julie, because I feel like there's still people trying to figure this out with ranked choice voting. And and we only came to this finale. I mean, we can't it's so complicated, right? It was this realization that you and I had about a week, a week and a half ago.
Yeah. And so let's say you have four people, candidates in a race, they remove whoever got the least number of votes, okay? They're lopped off. They're out of contention. They take only those ballots, the first choice ballots for that candidate, and then they work only those ballots into the total. So their second choice gets counted. But the people who voted for one, two and three, they don't get their second choice counted because they're people that argue while their people are still in the running.
So all they have to do is take the loser's subsequent choices. And once they get someone past 50%, it's over. But I would say if you want fairness, okay, you can get somebody past 50%, but you now also need to count the second or maybe third place voters or third ranked, candidates in the final tally. Everyone should have the same number of rankings calculated in the final tally.
Yeah. Do you know how crazy this is? Because we thought that's what they were doing for several months. We did think that because that would be fair. That's why we thought it. Yeah, we were like we were looking at it with innocent eyes going, okay, if they're trying to implement this, how are they making it work? Okay. I can see that they're they're doing their say.
It wasn't until we realized it and it was actually you that presented it with me. And I went, oh my gosh, you're right. Yeah. That is what they're doing. Yes. Because we thought they were trying to be fair. Yeah. They're not they're doing their best to game the system. Yeah they absolutely are. When I saw that I, I kind of threw up my hands.
I'm like this is totally rigged. This is absolutely rigged. Because in ranked choice voting, it is absolutely true and undeniable that some ballots will be counted, will be weighted more than other ballots. Absolutely. And you reward the loser pickers. You wait for the mushy middle. So if you I again I wonder I I'm I'm going to sound repetitive here but you've got to know this.
You've got to understand this. If you pick a winner okay. And then you're ballot only gets that gets paid attention to in your first choice. They don't calculate number two, number three, number four. So into your choice. Let's give them an and a number. So let's say there's four people on the ballot. And you pick the person who gets 38%, which is actually going to be a pretty high number if there's four people on the ballot.
True. Okay. So you pick the highest vote getter. They got 30, 38% of the vote. Your ballot becomes numb at that point. Nothing happens with it. Other ballots either get thrown out because they didn't fill it out all the way, or the ballot that chose the loser gets reweighted and their choices go back in. They get another vote.
This what happens? Yeah, they get another vote. But you don't. And if you're confused right now, that's the goal they had in mind. That's the whole point of this. That's what they were trying to do you for choosing the worst candidate. You get rewarded with another vote. It's a terrible system. I so I cannot tell you how terrible this system is.
It is so skeezy and it makes me it makes me feel like I shouldn't trust anyone. Because my very first reaction when we started talking about ranked choice voting is, I totally thought they were doing the board of method, because at least that one is explainable and countable. Yes. So I ran with that for probably a month or so, month and a half, and then you and I were sitting in a presentation and I turned to you and I went, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa whoa.
That's not what's happening. No, this is completely different. And even the people giving the presentation weren't fully aware of what was going on. It was so early on, even they were wrong in the presentation. Yeah. That's how many levels of, like, the genesis of this. It's so complicated to finally dig down into it. It took our attention that long.
Yeah. To do it. Do you know what this is? Julie and I made this point weeks ago. This is socialism or communism but with votes. That if, if you chose the loser you get rewarded in the same way. If, if you're in a communist system and you're poor, you get more you don't even have to do anything and we reward you with more.
Yes. You get more. Your, your ballot gets to to mean more, way more impact more. Yes. In my mind, everybody is everybody's vote. However we do this, everybody's vote should count the same. The board of method would do that actually it would. But their candidates want it. Their candidates can't win in the board of math. No. They need it to be this rigged garbage way of counting in order to give their Democrats and their liberals a chance at winning.
Yep. Let's go to the phone site. Caller Hillary, today. Good. How are you? Good. Doing well, am I on the radio now? You are on the radio. Yeah. You'll want to turn your radio down, so. And just talk on the radio. Okay. Thank you for all the work that you did in your documentary. Oh, thank you outright.
Amazing. Thank you. My question is, Neal, in your studies and research, why did they pick Idaho this election? Go around our red state. And it was the money tied to going after other red states? Well, it wasn't just Idaho. There's a Montana, has it? There's multiple states that this effort is going on, and it's going on at a like a miniature level in Utah.
So we have neighboring states that are red that are experiencing similar things. This is just a very drastic version that came forward in Idaho. Yeah. Okay. Once again, thank you for yeah, educating us and all that you do. The next thing is I'm interested. Could you find out more about the water curtailment issue? You know, what is the deadline?
Yes. You know what? We, we we are in communication with Brian Murdock. So once, once we get past the election, we're we're going to have him on because he has been paying very close attention to this. We just we only have so much bandwidth. We know that the the deadline is today. So we yes, we'll be tackling that very soon.
All righty. Appreciate it. All right. Thanks again. Thank you, for the call. (208)Â 542-1079 hi, caller. How are you? Good morning. Hi. I know there's a lot of stuff being said about this thing, but to me, it just boils down to two things. If you live on this side, the state will. You will lose total control with ranked choice.
Voting will just, solidify the great state of Ada as the seat of power for the whole. The whole state. Yeah. There be no, we just will. You know, this goes clear back to, well, all this stuff, for a lifetime. And this the other thing, why doesn't the word Rhino come up anymore? I haven't heard it for ages.
What don't we call people rhinos? Those guys like you Blitz order and Nukem and. Oh, right. All right. Well, I I yeah, but part of the problem is they're not really active Republicans anymore. They don't participate in the party, they don't hold office. They've got some residual opinions, but they're they're not actively trying to get conservative policies implemented.
Good conservatives, candidates elected. So I don't I you're not wrong, but they're not actually trying to make the case that they are active Republicans. I typically think of rhinos as people who are holding positions of power. They don't. They have opinions, and they have some leftover residual influence from days gone by. So I think that's why I, I typically aren't I'm not using that term.
Okay. Well, I guess that sign up on 17th Street should include more than, just Kamala. Yeah. Kamala, how do you say her name? Kamala. Kamala is it depends on what you want to accomplish. But she prefers what is it and what does the sign say about her on 17th? It says she's an idiot. Thank you. I appreciate that very much.
Thank you. I have a feeling he knew he. Yeah, he knew I said so. Just a funny side note. We never talked about this, but when Beyoncé was in, Houston with Kamala at the rally, Beyonce's mom came out on the teleprompter. They spelled it out phonetically so she could pronounce her name correctly. So for Beyonce's mom, it was c o m m a hyphen l a.
So Beyonce's mom would not mess it up. Okay, okay. These people, I don't know. 934 It's Friday, ma phone calls when we return on Newstalk 1079.
That's hilarious. I mean, for the longest time, I thought it was Kamala. I think we called her come, Kamala. Like during Kavanaugh. I think that's what we were calling her. Well, yeah, before she was the vice president. Everybody called her Kamala. Yep. But now it's racist. If you don't. Of course it is. Oh somebody said somebody texted it and said somebody vandalized that sign and painted over the idiot.
Oh yes I did hear that. I did not hear this. Yeah. You know what though? You know what? You spoiled little brats. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. Yep. Oh, yeah. I got a text from. So did you see the text about the advertisement on YouTube? Someone said that they thought they saw, like, a rancher wearing a big Western style belt buckle.
They thought it said California on it, but apparently said champion. So, I didn't say anything about it on air, but they were going to try and get a who is our friend that way. You were clarifying it for via text. Oh no, I'm talking about yes. Yeah, yeah. Oh I never gave the average of the holy get a lot of texts in.
Yeah. Somebody clarified that at six states that have open primaries on their ballots. Yeah. Colorado, Arizona, South Dakota, Montana, Nevada and Idaho. And then Utah has it in a few counties and they're running like a, like a what would you call it's like a study, but, like a pilot program. Yeah, like a pilot program to see if it's going to work in Utah.
It's part of the beginnings of them putting it in in play in Utah. Yeah. Okay. Did you I didn't send you this clip. How much time do we have? I can say I can tell the story this fast. So they're talking about their kids, and Rogan's talking about a time when his kids swore, and. And Vance's like, yeah, I had my kid on a plane when I was a senator.
He was three, and he had a Biscoff cookie, and he dropped the Biscoff cookie. Cookie. And it fell between the seats. And he said, dad and and, Vance looked and he goes, well, f and his three year old drop the f bomb. Oh, no. And he was like, here I am, a senator. Yeah, worry about my problems.
I can't take, when I come.
All right. Only playing this because Julie requested it. So your day is always better when this shabby ensemble gets played. Like it's like the thing right now. So catchy. Yeah, I mean, it's it was the thing a couple months ago, but. But if you're 51, it's still it's still the thing. That's right.
Only 51 year olds call it I know I said telephone today. Oh yeah. Okay. Couple of things. Today's the last day to vote early if you want to go to the elections office and, cast your vote and avoid the. Although the rush has been early voting, it's probably going to be a pretty smooth process on Tuesday because early voting has been so robust.
We had Paul Hacky in earlier this morning. His wife works at the elections office. She helps out with that. And and they're breaking records left and right. Yeah. Yes. How many people are right. Yeah I guess last Friday was record breaking. But we went we voted early. We were worried about Tuesday just simply because of the election watch party.
And we're like we got to get it done. And so you and I went and voted early. It was slick. It was super easy. Yeah. It was so, get out and vote. And, either today, last day to vote early or on Tuesday. Okay. Julie, we did the math. Sorry we didn't announce this earlier, but we went through we did toss out some outliers that we thought like once somebody said a thousand.
You can't even get there. Yeah somebody said 419. Trump's not going to get 419. So my my apologies. But we tossed those because those were unrealistic guesses. So we averaged all the the the guesses that were within the range. Right. And 289 well, about 289 to 90 was the average. Someone guessed 219, which we thought that might have been a typo.
So if you change that 1 to 319, the average is around 295, which all of this sounds very, very reasonable to me. Very doable. And I think with the last 3 to 4 weeks very, very doable for Trump. Yes. Yes, I let's talk a little bit about some of the, the, the swells that have happened for Trump that I think that, I probably erroneously overlooked at the beginning of the campaign.
I've always been so worried about the women vote. Yeah. For for Trump. Several months ago I gave up on it. I'm like, we're not gonna change their minds, right? We're not going to. Yeah. And it kind of felt defeated. Like, well, what other group are we going to get? You know what group Trump has scored. Who. College kids.
And people who haven't voted in several years. Yeah. Those are the ones that are coming out that seem to be making the differences in the polling, the differences in the early voting. And I mean we've got to think deeper than I and that includes me because I was signing it off. I'm like, how is he ever going to get the women vote back?
Well guess what, you don't need it. Yeah, you're right. I mean, he's had to make up for it with this patchwork of other support. But you sent me a story, Julie. Apparently in Maine, they have college kids vote in a mock election. It's been going on for years. Yes. And usually the Democrat wins. Trump won by, like, nine points or something.
Yes. Yep. Very solid win in Maine, by the way. Maine, which kind of prides itself in not having any kind of affiliations. Yeah, they're just their own little bubble. Their own little bubble there in Maine. Yeah. But this is a, a survey or a mock election that they've done for decades. Yes. With these college students and yeah, Trump won this year.
All right. Let's, let's hit the phones here. Hi, caller. How are you?
Hello? Can you hear me? I can yeah. What's on your mind? Oh, okay. Great. Great. Hey, I love your show. Listen to it every chance I get. Thank you. Just what I have. Just a couple quick things that I had. One, I've talked to people about this prop one, and I was just in Meridian a couple days ago on business.
And, most people understand and know to vote no, but I'm surprised how many that don't really understand it or haven't really checked it out. Part of the problem, too. It seems like the ads for the. Yes on one are like 2 to 3 more for every one. No ad. Yeah. And, that, you know, last Thursday I voted at the courthouse here in Rigby and because my wife and I are, election workers.
So it's just easier to do it early. Anyway, when I read through that, I was really concerned because obviously I knew the book. No, but when you read it, for somebody who's uneducated or really hasn't looked into it, they may say sounds. You know, they don't say anything about ranked choice voting, anything, but it just all sounds like it's a great thing.
And my concern is, those type of people. You do such a great job on informing people. I hope more people listen to you, because that's the only way, some people are going to get the information, but, I just wanted to thank you guys so much for for being so clarifying. And so both of you just do a super job.
And so I just want to add that as well. Well thank you. That means a lot. We appreciate that. Thank you. Yeah you you bet. And besides that my cousins and Julie's board. Oh good. You should text in and tell me who that is okay I'll do that okay okay. All right. So take care. Take care. Okay.
Thank you for the call. (208)Â 542-1079 it's Neal Larson along with Julie Mason. So, that was a great call. You know, he mentioned, you know, he wishes more people would would listen. And, sadly, sadly, there are there are a handful of people that don't listen to the show. It's single digits, but it. Yes, yes. Amy eight. We're trying to get them like we're trying to get their lives turned around.
Here we are. And we've got them signed up for counseling. We have them in a rehabilitation program, and we're looking forward to having them as our listeners. Those last few, they'll come back over. They will. They will. I want to address a text that we got, this person, they've what? They asked for your documentary, which.
Okay, but they say it's funny that you say ranked choice voting dilutes, and that you advocate for one man, one vote, but somehow are a fan of the Electoral College, which is equally dilutive, completely undemocratic, yet is a function of a republic form of government. I mean, I have my thoughts, but go ahead, you respond first. First of all, it's baked into the Constitution.
It was an idea put forward by our founders, incredibly wise men. And I would also say it's a very republic thing to do. One man, one vote is in a very, very important part of our voting and how we elect leaders. And we should absolutely adhere to that in its, in its own sphere. But the reason we have the Electoral College is because we are the United States of America.
This is a system of federalism. And in the same way, we have a U.S. Senate where Idaho has the same number of, I say, representatives. But I don't want to confuse the issue. The same number of people representing us as California or New York states themselves as sovereigns, have an interest as well. So it's the states that elect the president.
It's not the people that do it. So I hope you'll watch the documentary, with, with an open mind. But if you don't like the Electoral College system, then you need to take it up with federalism. Don't take it up with me. It was a wise system, and it, I mean, I understand the point that's being made here.
It's not a terrible point, but at the same time, it is more complex than one person, one vote. So the framing of the text is that I advocate for something or Neal advocates for something. So I'm going to continue with the framing of the text, which is I always want the states to have more power than the federal government.
Yeah, always. Yeah. There's there's no question there. I want the states to have more power than the federal government. But Idaho is not equal to California. Idaho is not equal to Texas I Idaho is not equal to New York. And so I love Idaho, and I want my state of Idaho to have power. And when you do the electoral College, the states have equal power.
Yeah. And so I want that power to be shared amongst all of the states. And I don't want a state like California that has been flooded with illegal immigrants and bad ideas to have more power than the state of Idaho. Yeah, I want the states to have the power. I want them to have equal power. Yes. And that is what the Electoral College helps accomplish.
Yes. Very, very well put. And let's take one more call before I break. Caller. Go ahead. How are you today? Good. Thank you. I want to make a comment. If Democrats had been serious about this, they would have nominated RFK. What an incredible guy he is. He brought out two points that I think are just very important.
The first one was he talked about. And we know how it's been weaponized using CIA, FBI, things like that. I remember the days of Frank church, and I was a huge critic of him because he came down on those agencies. But we have got to have oversight. And so I look at Frank church's effort a little bit different now.
And they also I want to say Ted Kennedy was the one who came up with title nine, which brought some real equality to women. And to see this undermined my, you know, there there are bigger issues that we're discussing than men training women's sports. But for me, that's that's the game changer. If I talk to somebody and they think that's okay, I'm gone because it's not because they're that insane.
Then how do you talk about anything else and have a decent conversation? Yeah, but those two things from Democrat at the time, I didn't think was was that great. But, those are some good ideas. And the guy who called before who talked about it's not the Democrat Party that it used to be. My grandpa was an FDR lover, and I've heard it through the years, but this was ultra liberal stuff.
It's it's satanic, it's evil, it's wicked and so destructive. Thanks for what you guys do. You do an awesome job. Well, thank you very much. We appreciate that. And I loved his comments on the transgender in sports issue, because it's kind of like if you walked into a restaurant and you saw a couple of mice scurrying along the corners of the floor, you don't stick around to go and think, well, the food might be okay, you're out of there, right?
And and that's true, I think on this particular issue, if they're thinking, is that flawed and that corrupted, you really can't trust him on anything. It's not really worth even having a conversation if they can, if they can deny science enough that they think that a boy is a girl and a girl is a boy, you're probably so.
There's probably so much distance between you that it's just not worth it. Yeah, yeah. That's true. You're you're you're too far apart. All right, we're going to break here. Oh, boy. We're way over time. In fact, I have to adapt here. Stick with me for just a moment. Newstalk 107 nine. Holy crap. Julie, it's 950. Curse.
Yes, we are, that person who sent that text and appreciated that we answered it. And that's somebody you can have a conversation with about the Electoral College. Yeah. Oh, good. Okay, good. Yeah. You also, you guys, we probably received, I don't know, 5 or 6 texts from people thanking us for actually taking those calls yesterday that were difficult.
They felt like that was good radio and that it helped them understand how to converse with people about a difficult subject like ranked choice voting and open primaries. It's complicated. It is complicated. And so I, like neither you nor I, lost any sleep or breath or anything over those phone calls. Yes, it was fine that we did that.
Yeah. It's fine. And, I mean, I hope that our bosses look at that and go, that's why we pay them. Yes, because they can handle that. Yeah. And because I think that teaches us to be a much more resilient population. Yeah. Absolutely. Agree with. And we need to engage those people because this particular proposition has come with a massive amount of confusion with it.
It's complicated. As much as they try to make it sound like it's just this simple thing, they are pulling the wool over people's eyes. In fact, I thought, you know how I like to do hypothetical things, Julie? Like, like I wish I could have SIM Democracy or SIM Republic. Like, there's people in video games building their mansion or their house, and Neal's like, I want a government.
I'll give you it. I'll give you an example. I would love it if, they had a follow up question. Now, voters don't have this much time or patience, so this is unrealistic on my part, but it's an interesting thought experiment that in races people can vote for different candidates. But there would be a, not a box, but a little line next to it.
And it would say, with what level of enthusiasm are you voting for this candidate? And so I think you would have a lot of different answers, like Trump would probably have a high level of enthusiasm. I would imagine, although you know what, I take that back. He might have a sort of lower than average, but you would have lots of highs and, and a handful of lows.
Right. You wouldn't. There is the emoji where you're holding your nose there. You could put that emoji down. Yeah. Something like that Yeah. You could add a vote and an emoji. That would be that would be great. But I thought it would be interesting to have a follow up question on prop one with, is what level of clarity does your vote come with?
Oh, I would like to know how clear proposition one is to the people voting. Yes. I'm guessing to the people voting no, there's a high level of clarity. Like they know what's in it, because the trend that I'm seeing overwhelmingly is once people find out sort of the full slate of details about what's in prop one, they're like, oh, hell no.
Like they don't want to vote for this thing. Yeah. The yes voters are putting this emoji on there. The I don't know man. No, no it's in hindsight. Yes. My cousin said it was a good idea. You could put a note in the say my cousin said it was a good idea. My doctor had a sign in his yard and he prescribed my blood pressure medication.
So I thought, okay, I'll vote yes. Yes. Right. Another in my SIM Republic ballot scenario is have like a five question basic quiz and your vote counts based on the score you get. So if you get four out of five, your vote counts is 80%. If you only get one out of five, your vote only counts 20%.
And if he said he's building a government no, I think it would be. I think it would be fascinating that if your vote counted based on how well you understand what you're voting. I bet there is a Reddit group that you could belong to that does this job. So but there is there's I mean, there's all sorts of constitutional problems with this.
I'm not saying that, but, but for research purposes like everybody's vote should count fully. I wouldn't suggest other. Right. But it would be nice to know people who voted for the Democrats. What is their level of knowledge and smarts when it comes to this kind of stuff? So, on Morning Wire this morning, they referenced the CEO of Reddit.
Yeah, he's trying to take credit for changing the election, which I think is a weird thing because, they put people in jail for that. The Democrats do. So I'm not sure I would want to take credit for altering the election, but he he feels like his little political subgroups on Reddit are that powerful. I don't get on Reddit for that.
I don't either, like I, I visit Reddit to find out the dirt on a crime for my podcast. I don't go for any other reason. I never proactively go to Reddit. Yeah, I only go when I'm looking for a crime story. Yeah. Yeah. Boy. Our Facebook Live group is quite active too. Yeah. They're good. Yeah. Jeannie, you should share what homeschool program you use, even if it's your own, so that people in the Facebook Live, if they're interested in homeschooling, because I think it's super intimidating for people I know it would have been intimidating for me, especially to homeschool my son, because we would have done this.
We would have just been battling nonstop. I think I could have homeschooled my girls, but my son and I would have just been battling now. We wouldn't. But he's also 30. Yeah. So yeah, you should share your your homeschool program because I think it is intimidating for people. I also was super thrilled to hear from Superintendent Wilson, yesterday that district 93 has kept that program vibrant, that online, that someone so important and is in and she's doing really well.
So so important. I just realized when I sit over here, I'm way close to that camera. Right. But you shift a lot. I would tell you to hold still, but that you're not going to be able to. So I know you're here. All right. 958 on Newstalk 107, I, Neal Larson and Julie Mason, again, we want you to join us Tuesday night.
It's our election night watch party will be broadcasting, so we'll be actively working, but we'll be accessible here and there. In fact, we're going to have an extra microphone so listeners can come up and talk and give their take. We'll be talking with politicians and representatives and, even trying to connect to some of the other election, parties around the state as well.
Yeah, yeah, it should be a great atmosphere. If you'd like to join us, you can get your ticket. It's free by texting the word ticket to (208)Â 542-1079. And, Yeah, come hang out with us. We're going to have local politicians there, and it it'll just be a really good time. Yeah. It's going to be fun. Catch the Trump train tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Freeman Park.
There's another one in Shelley as well. A little bit later in the morning show and take pictures and send them to us with. We'd love to see, what you've got. All right. Mark Lee van Kampen Robins coming up.
