10.29.2024 -- NLS -- Momentum and Mobilization: Trump’s Surge and Idaho’s Proposition Showdown
On this episode with Neal and Julie, they discuss the current political climate, focusing on the momentum Donald Trump seems to be gaining in the upcoming election. Neal comments on the surge of energy he senses in Trump’s campaign but emphasizes that supporters shouldn’t become complacent; he urges voters to turn out in full force on Election Day. They touch on Proposition One in Idaho and the controversies surrounding ranked-choice voting, including out-of-state funding and the risks they feel it presents to local elections. Wendy Harmon joins the discussion, sharing her efforts to mobilize support despite recent challenges, highlighting the importance of local involvement in Idaho's elections.
Neal and Julie also analyze Trump’s recent events and statements, as well as broader reactions to his policies on immigration, inflation, and crime. They note how Trump’s approach to direct conversations, particularly through platforms like podcasts, resonates with many voters, differing from traditional media coverage. They conclude with a plug for upcoming "Trump Trains" in Idaho, encouraging listeners to participate and show support. Neal sees this as a turning point, noting how these movements reflect the current pulse among Trump supporters in the lead-up to the election.
There is an overwhelming call for a fresh start. Because with women's reproductive health care and freedoms hanging in the balance next Tuesday, the stakes literally are life and death for every woman in America. I'm Bruce Springsteen, and I'm here today to support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Hello. Good morning. It is Tuesday. Welcome to the Neal Larson Show.
I just had a thought I was playing that opening montage there and that MSNBC anchor, whatever her name is, I don't know. There. I don't know him by name. I thought it's also life and death for unborn babies as well. How are you today? We are one week away. We have a lot going on, a lot of moving parts.
And in one week, Julie and I are hosting the big party. We will be at the snake River Event Center at Shiloh Inn in Idaho Falls on election night, where we will be broadcasting our coverage, and it starts at seven. It'll go till ten ish. It's hard to kind of predict how the results coming in, how all of that unfolds.
And so we're sort of leaving that open to see how robust the party still is, if it's still going and everything's rolling. And, you know, we can obviously keep rolling if we want to. So I hope that you're planning on coming. It's our desire that you would grab a ticket is super easy. Doesn't cost you a thing. All right.
We're not making money on this. We're just gathering as like minded individuals and watching the results come in together. And we will either cry tears of joy or tears of pain, or it may be mixed, but we'll do it together on election night. So the best way to do this is just text the word ticket to (208)542-1079. We'll send you the link.
It literally takes you about five to 10s to put in your name and your email address. And then we will send you an email and your ticket that you will receive in your email will be good for your entire group. So if you're bringing your family four people, six, whatever, just, that ticket will be good enough.
And we look forward to seeing you that night. Also, by the way, when you get your email, make sure you read it because there's a link at the bottom for you to click. And guess the number of electoral votes that Donald Trump will get. We wanted to make this as simple as possible. If you accurately guess the number of electoral votes that Donald Trump will get, you're gonna get a T shirt from us and it'll be an actual electoral map the way that it turns out.
And, we'll we'll, hook you up with with that. But you have to get it exactly right. You can't even be one off. You've got to get it exactly right. And we'll get you, get you your t shirt. That way. So, at any rate, how are you? I know I keep asking you that question, but it's almost like a day today.
And I'm going to be honest with you. I'm kind of hitting a wall in certain ways, like it's I'm at that point where the brain is so saturated and the just the whole environment of the election has marinated my brain in just too much stuff. And I feel like I'm going to have to take some days off in mid-November.
Once the storm dies down, just to get a little bit of a breather. So I might be headed to a warmer place for a weekend or so. Just just to get out. But, we'll we'll have to wait and see. We have I do want to start the show, though, with optimism, and I've been trying to do this because I want to keep you all engaged.
I want to keep you believing. And right now, if I look at that, and for some reason, this metric is the thing I look at first, I don't look at the latest polling, which can be subject to a lot of flaws and, sometimes inadvertent flaws, sometimes deliberate. But the one I look at is the betting average. You know, this about me.
Kamala continues to see her probability among the betting markets to drop. She is, as of this morning, at 36%. Donald Trump, of course, is seeing an increase. He's at 62.7% now. I believe this spread is just going to get bigger as time goes on, because the momentum is clearly with Donald Trump right now. And Kamala Harris, and she has been from day one in various levels of desperation.
There have been moments when she's shined like sort of and it's felt good. The DNC was a good moment, I think, when she named Tim Walz. They were really excited about that. Now, I think they're having some buyer's remorse. Oh, by the way, did you see the story about Tim Walz that he back in the late 1980s, he allegedly had a a fling fling with, a daughter of a Communist Party official.
He was there. He says he was there teaching English, and he had an ongoing and according to her, a very selfish relationship with this young woman. And it did not it did not work out. The Wall's campaign, to my knowledge, is not even acknowledged. This particular story, but at any rate, there might that might give some insight on he why he kept going to communist China like 30 times.
So there's that. But I don't think it's really going to hurt him politically. I just, I don't I mean, we read it sort of a bombshell kind of thing. So you have that we also have Trump getting ready to speak at Mar a Lago. And we are going to carry those remarks for some reason. It has a different feel to it.
This morning. We're not sure if there's anything specific that he's going to address. I know that there's been, this narrative that they are trying their best to keep pushing out about Donald Trump and Hitler and the a racially insensitive jokes told by the comedian there. And I mean, that whole thing. I don't know if it's escalated to the point where Donald Trump cares that he needs to address that.
I guess we're going to find out. But but it it's kind of fascinating to me to listen to this because I won't defend the jokes that the comedian made, but I won't defend a lot of jokes that comedians make. I will tell you what I'm happy about that we live in a country that allows a full breadth of ideas and sentiments to be expressed.
Even the stuff I don't like that's called freedom. That's called the First Amendment. And quite frankly, people get to have an irrational meltdown over a joke as well. So that's part of their freedom. You get to be a snowflake if you want to be a snowflake. And guess what? I get to point out that you're being a snowflake.
I watch this. This is what I told Julie earlier. I'm like, okay, I didn't really like the joke about the floating island of garbage. They call it Puerto Rico that that I, you know, they're they're they are offensive. So then what? What happens next? If someone says something offensive, then what? I. And I'm waiting for feelings get hurt, okay?
Feelings get hurt all the time. Then what are you gonna hinge? The fate of the future of the country over a comedian's racially insensitive joke? Are you going to decide? I don't want my kids to have affordable housing because a comedian told an insensitive joke. Then what? What's next? I'm curious. What? I'm so mad. I'm so angry. My panties are in a bunch.
So therefore what? What are you going to do? What's next? And I really mean that you get to be offended. That's great, I don't care. That's your business. It's not my business. It's your business. You're offended. So what? And I know why the media does it. They're trying to try and improve the environment for Kamala Harris. That's I.
I don't even have to say that. That's so obvious. That's like me saying the sun is going to come up today. It's obvious what the media is all about. It's about creating this negative, nasty environment. But I'm going to tell you something. It really doesn't matter. You might remember and I will say, I'm almost at this point, I wouldn't say I'm ashamed.
I would say it was a different time. Do you remember a couple of weeks before Donald Trump won in 2016 and the Access Hollywood tape came out and it was the grab him by the the kiddy tape and all of that. And I thought, he's done. There's no way there's after this, there is no way. And it turned out and you had politicians, good guys and gals, they were saying, we need a different nominee.
Trump needs to get out because they were worried not about themselves being offended, but about the reactions of others being offended. And this won't sway anyone. I promise you there is not a significant bunch of people out there that said, you know what? I was all in for Trump. Or I was reluctantly voting for Trump. But some comedian over whom they had no control made a joke about Puerto Rico.
And now I'm voting for Kamala Harris. No, buddy. Okay, I mean, maybe you'd find one outlier, but you. This is not how this stuff works. They are desperate and pathetic. And I know you get frustrated, but just let yourself enjoy the fact that they are this desperate, that they're crafting these ridiculous narratives about Hitler and Nazi rallies and racially insensitive jokes.
It's all they have left. There is nothing there. They don't have a candidate that has merit. They don't have a candidate with substance that is clearly qualified and ready to take the reins of the presidency of the United States. That's why they're substituting their manufactured artificial outrage in the place of confidence that they have a good quality, a candidate that can appeal to the hearts and minds of the American people.
We're okay. It's all okay. Donald. By the way, I saw the headline this morning, Arizona now has tipped from a toss up to a leans Republican that things are looking again. I don't I speak this way very cautiously because I don't want anyone getting complacent. Not that 95% of the people listening are in Idaho and and they're not going to show up.
And Kamala is going to figure out a way to win. That's not I'm not worried about Idaho. I'm actually worried about prop one. So when I talk about this, I don't want this fostering a sense of complacency because you might go, Trump's got it in the bag. I'm not going to vote you. We need your vote. We need you to show up and to show up in a big way on Election Day and defeat prop one.
This is one I am worried about. I, I think we can defeat it. I think with Donald Trump on the ballot, we've got a good shot. The most important thing is not for you to tell people to vote against it, although that will be the logical conclusion. The most important thing is for you to simply go out and tell your friends the truth.
Tell them everything about what this proposition does. I got another mailer you probably did too, from Bruce Nukem and the whole Take Back Idaho slash Idahoans for open primaries retreated group and again, no mention whatsoever of ranked choice voting. No indication at all that they are gutting our election system and replacing it with something completely different. I'm not really sure how they go to sleep in good conscience at night, so blatantly lying to Idahoans, I don't.
To me, I don't know how they how they do it. I think if I do look at it and there is a silver lining to this and we'll talk with, I, we're actually going to talk with Wendy Harmon in about looks like 15 minutes from now. We were and you know what we may do? We may carry Trump's comments and pre tape Wendy, or vice versa.
We'll see. We want to bring both to you this morning if they overlap. But I will say the dishonest mailers put out by the Idahoans for open primaries is every justification for the legislature to toss this thing if it passes without hesitation, without a second thought, you can, 100% guarantee that there are a number of Idahoans that are voting for this thing based on the superficial talking points that they have been spoon fed for the past year and a half.
So I, I don't like it, but I, I can see there being value in there lapses of dishonor, of honesty there lapses of ethics in informing the voters. So we'll see, we'll see if the legislature feels the same way. I know it was 20 something years ago that the legislature tossed voter, term limits for lawmakers. She got rid of it.
They overturned it. They wanted to stay there. They didn't want it to be term limited. So they overturned it and they survived. It would be interesting. This would require a little bit of research, but it would be interesting to see how much turnover there was after the legislature overturned term limits back then, because that was controversial. I remember it, I was in my I late 20s, early 30s and fully covering thing.
It was just, been a while, so I don't remember it all that well. But, I, I think people were upset and mad, but I don't know if that actually ended up, leading to a lot of lawmakers losing their jobs over it. This time around, though, if they repeal a voter initiative, they have far more justification than they did last time.
It's 823 awaiting Trump from Mar-A-Lago. We'll be talking with Representative Wendy Harman a little later as well. On this Tuesday morning, just one week away on Newstalk 1079. Good morning, Wendy, how are you? You know, I'm hanging in there. It it's nobody wants to be in bed for six days with a sprained ankle. Oh, yeah. Julie told me that that happened.
Yeah. I just can't walk on. It's still. You know, you and Barb are quite the campaign pair now, I'll send you a picture of somebody. Fundraiser Saturday. We're both sitting there. I posted on Facebook, and it's good thing we we planned it at a physical therapy business because, we both need it. Yeah. Yes. For sure.

Neal Larson, along with Julie Mason and big thanks to Representative Wendy Harmon, who's agreed to come on a little bit early. We are awaiting remarks from President Trump from Mar-A-Lago. So we reached out to Wendy and said, hey, do you want to come on a few minutes early in Wendy?
You were more than happy to do that. We appreciate it. Glad to be here this morning. Thank you. Wish I could be in studio, but, sprained ankle is keeping me down right now, so I'm happy to join by phone. You know, two weeks before an election is a super convenient time to have a sprained ankle, isn't it?
You know, God teaches us some lessons sometimes. And slowing down has never been one of my strengths. But I'm definitely been doing that the last six days. I gotcha. Are you okay? I mean, are things healing up? Yeah, they will up for. You know, I know a good physical therapist. Well, perhaps maybe your listeners don't know. I'm married to a physical therapist, Riggs.
All right. And so he's taking good care of me. Well, Wendy, here we are, one week away today. How is your campaign and how are things going? You know, I've been really blessed with, good friends and and help. It's amazing to have the Republican Party support me in, in a campaign. They've been knocking doors, delivering literature for me.
I've got I feel like a strong digital campaign running. We we had one mailer, and, I've had a lot of help putting out science, thank goodness. So I was grateful I had everything in place, when I, when I had this incident with my ankle. So great support from the community. Yeah. All right, Wendy, let's just let's, like, just get right down to it.
We have been battling prop one here. I feel like, ad nauseum. Is that how you feel, Neal? Oh, my. Yes, yes. Tell us your feelings about, the proposition. We already have. We know you're voting no on it, but how do you feel about how the, the two sides have have run their. I guess we could call it propaganda or they're, they're push for their, their individual sides.
And how do you see it playing out. You know, it's I think it's very revealing that the big money that's coming in on proposition one is from out of state. You must ask yourself why out-of-state interests would spend millions of dollars to change elections in Idaho. What do they think they're buying? Why are they going to get it?
Why have they misrepresented what the initiative is all about? Why did they misrepresent the cost? Why? Why do they think? What do they think they're buying? I think that's a key question to voters. For voters to ask themselves, they're buying something. What is it? Well, and that is a that is a great question. We talked with Alaska's secretary of state yesterday and she talked about the millions and millions in dark money that flowed into Alaska to get it passed, and more millions coming in this year to try and stop the repeal effort as well.
And I think that's the million dollar question. And I think none of us would really like the answer to that question. I agree, I listened to that segment that was really helpful to hear her experience with what's happening in Alaska. And I think it's a warning, a direct warning of what could happen here in Idaho if we yield to this out of state money, these out of state interests that think they're going to get different policy by using ranked choice voting that they can't win by the, the, the, the folks that win election natural the way that we do it now.
So, you know, there's some really good studies. The American Enterprise Institute has a fantastic study out there on. Does it eliminate the the problem of political polarization? The answer to that in a ranked choice voting situation is no. You end up well. The brussel sprouts example that we've all seen. You end up with someone that, you know, nobody really likes or wants.
And yet losers win under this system. And, there's another opinion piece that was in the Hill on how it actually can reward extremism rather than, eliminate it or reduce it. And so this is just bad all the way around from the misrepresentation of what it actually will do to, the, the unintended or perhaps intended if you're the dark money investors consequences to Idaho elections.
So, Wendy, I produce the documentary Unholy Alliance about prop one. And, right at the very beginning of the documentary, I used your clip where you said you will vote to repeal it if this thing is passed. And I know your rationale, and I believe it's solid that the proponents of this have lied so much, mostly in the form of half truths.
Our household got another mailer yesterday or the day before. Well, it would have been yesterday. Monday, again from Bruce Snookums saying nothing about ranked choice voting, saying nothing about getting rid of party primaries and introducing a jungle primary. And I I'm pretty certain you're still in that same place, that if it does pass these mailers, the messaging, their whole approach has really given you a good basis to move forward with an effort to repeal it as a legislature.
Agreed. I haven't moved from that position. I think the proponents of this have misrepresented what it does to such an extent. Well, and at the, the rally that we did, over there at Wealth of Health, I talked to so many voters, several of whom were very angry because they signed the petition, believing the lines that it was just about an open primary when it it just isn't.
And so I think there, there is absolutely cause to repeal this if it passed because of how it was misrepresented to the voters about what it actually is. And what have you heard from other lawmakers? I know you guys stay in touch. You do meetings throughout the year, even when the legislative session is not happening. What are you hearing from other lawmakers and are they on board with you in a repeal?
If it does pass, there are very few Republican lawmakers that support this proposition. Now, there are some and, and of course, that's their right. And maybe they represent more liberal areas of the state than I do. I haven't had specific conversations around repeal with very many folks, but all of us see that there would be just cause for it based on on on how this was presented to the voters.
One of the things that the governor referenced, in the comments that I featured in the documentary, was that the legislature has the option to do anything from a repeal to fully implementing it, that there might be some middle ground here where you perhaps address the issue of open primaries, or it might be a more reliable way of counting ranked choice voting.
I know I in a really nerdy way, talk about the board of method, which is a much better reflection of where voters are at. Can you see maybe some kind of middle ground where lawmakers will address these issues that are sort of foundational to prop one, but but still implement it in some way? Yeah, I'm sure we'll have some conversations like that.
The thing that I don't want to do is, validate anything that Reclaim Idaho is doing in terms of threatening the legislature. We had this where they were going to run a sales tax for education or something. And and so the governor proposed 330 million in new spending out of sales tax money. And and Reclaim Idaho took credit for that decision.
They said we only did it because they were threatening to run an initiative if we didn't. I don't think that's what the people hired me to do is respond to threats from leftist activist organizations who think they can control Idaho, different ways than because they can't win elections. And again, this isn't necessarily about parties. This is about the values that people hold.
And they they elect us to represent their values in the legislature. They didn't elect to reclaim Idaho to do that. And so I think some backlash against the way they've managed this is inevitable. And, what that looks like, I don't know. But there, as you point out there are reasonable conversations to be had always about how we can improve our elections in Idaho.
And we have those every year, and I expect we'll have them again this year. Another I know that one avenue we talked about, the dark money that has come in. There was one state that we talked about that actually bans outside money from being spent for a statewide voter initiative. And I don't there may be First Amendment concerns there and, with, with campaign donations, but is that if we're going to have a voter initiative, I think it ought to be the money ought to be homegrown as well as the voting public being homegrown, would you would you also agree with that in principle?
I know there are conversations going on right now because I've been a part of some of them about that very question about dark money, about limits on spending. You know, if you're an individual, you can only donate up to $1,000 to a candidate per cycle. And it, you know, up to 5000 for other different situations. And so there are conversations going on about what more transparency would look like.
You know, we have c4's that spend a whole lot of money and you never see it. And so there are conversations going on about how we identify, where spending is coming from in ways that Idahoans can tell who's trying to buy their elections in, in this sense of this initiative, which is what I feel like is going on with prop one.
And so, yes, those I think those conversations, will happen and we'll see if there are legislative improvements we can make that will help Idahoans just have transparency, right. Sunshine is the best disinfectant. Yeah. For sure. Well, Wendy, what do you I mean, I know you're kind of laid up with your your ankle, but that won't stop you from doing things, in advance of the election.
What's your plan over the next week? Well, I, I have been able to move all of my in-person, in-person meetings today to zoom calls. So I'm. I'll be working a full day here from home, and, talking to as many people as I can from home and really relying on a lot of good friends and supporters to help me carry this campaign across the finish line to next week.
Well, if you're feeling well enough, we hope you'll join us for our debate watch party on election night, the election night watch party. I keep making them. I'm planning to be there. Oh, good. Good. We look forward to it. All right, representative Wendy Harmon, we sure wish you the best of luck over the next week. Thank you very much.
All right, we'll take a break and be back after this on Newstalk 179. Wendy. Thank you. Oh, she hung up.
It's, 846 on Newstalk 179, Neal Larson, along with Julie Mason, still awaiting former and likely future President Donald Trump speaking at Mar-A-Lago. Do we know what this is about? You've no idea what this is about. It seems a little different. Like usually when he speaks, he's at a big rally and there are a lot of people there.
We're watching the podium shot here, but I don't I don't know if it's something. If he's got a big policy announcement. I don't know if he's. Yeah. It's not like him to respond to the to the snowflakes who are upset about a comedian. And you're it you're going to really shock me if that's what this is about.
Yeah I know, I know, I don't I don't think that's what it's about. I mean, I guess it could be hey, like, anything can happen in today's world. So yes, it could be about that. I would just be really surprised based upon history. Yeah. Yeah, I, I would too. So, Well, Julie. Proposition one. Yeah. Here we go.
You feeling good about it? Bad about it? Yeah. I know you just spoke for everyone. Oh I don't think I've changed much. I think it's going to be 5149, 50 2:48 a.m.. I actually think it's going to pass. Do you think it's going to pass him. It, it very well. Could I for me I would agree with you, but I also think there are some wild cards that that we may not that may make it a little less predictable.
I hope the Trump down ballot is of those wild cards. I kind of feel like there is going to be that impact on it. And most people, if you care enough about politics, see more and more people are learning about it. And I'm seeing that on social media where if and it could just be because the algorithm filters for me.
But I'm feeling like the like comments on social media that I've been encouraged by how many people are opposed to it. So. And people I don't know, people I'm not connected to that they are. There's a growing number of people that are like, this isn't anything like what they told you it was. Yeah. I mean, for the longest time I've been discouraged about the proposition because of the deceit that I have, of the way that it's been presented and everything that's are still there, that that hasn't changed at all.
I think my most, concerning and maybe aggravating portion that I've experienced the last few days. And it's based upon some conversations. You and I had a conversation with someone on Friday, like it's based upon some conversations where I just feel like those who are in, they're proponents of it, and the ones that are speaking out, they're doing it well while straining so hard to pat themselves on the back.
Yeah, while they're doing it. And I maybe it's just that I'm annoyed with that. But man, you're not as important. And as righteous as you think you are. No. And that's just the message I would send to those people. But as you are, you're literally going to have to go see a chiropractor because you've strained so hard to pat yourself on the back.
Yeah, yeah, you are, you are. And maybe even Wendy's husband, the physical therapist. Like I see him. Yeah. No, but you're you're right about that. I feel like the people who are. And there are some people who feel duty bound to dedicate their social media channel to informing people about the the beauties and benefits of proposition one. And I'm like, okay, first of all, I you're probably not nearly as important as you think you are and like, you're acting like you are.
And number two, you're lying solely on the theoretical promises of ranked choice voting. If there is a silver lining to the fact we've had ranked choice voting for a while in Maine, and we've had it for a while in Alaska, we're learning that it actually doesn't deliver on the promises of it being less divisive. There's certain races and scenarios where it's more divisive than it actually benefits you, and people will hear what I'm about to say.
They will not believe it, I promise you. But I also promise you it's absolutely true that in ranked choice voting in certain scenarios, it actually benefits you to be a less popular candidate in the first round. Yes, to actually push people out of your camp and be more divisive then to be less divisive. It's an unintended consequence. I don't think people pushing ranked choice voting want this to happen, but if you're running and you there are three candidates and you want people to vote for the person you can believe you can beat in round two, you want to push some people out of your circle and have them vote for the the opposite person.
Doesn't that kind of match, though? I mean, these people that are, shaming others online. Yeah. And doing that self-congratulation that I'm talking about that is divisive. They are divisive. Yeah. And so they're actually getting a situation or a, an electoral option that matches their personalities. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. I think you're right. I think you're exactly right. And they don't actually look at the real impact of what's going to happen.
But it it's all it's all theory. And these are the people that operate. They reward people for the in their intentions and not the outcomes of their of their lives. And the thing that you're talking about, about it might be to your benefit to be a little bit divisive in the campaign. This is where we're at. I talked with someone in the media that is located in Anchorage, and he said to me, well, if it does pass, you're going to be okay because people learn to game the system.
I don't want a system that's gamed. I don't like the gaming that already happens, and we're going to put that on steroids if we bring in ranked choice voting. Yeah, I don't want a system that that's gamed. I want candidates to put themselves out there and us make a clear cut decision. That's what I want. Well, we need a system where like minded folks can congregate around a singular candidate.
Other like minded folks congregate around their singular candidate. And then we have it out in November. Yep. That is a system that it for them. It doesn't work because they always lose. They can't seem to find a candidate that can appeal to all Idahoans. So this is the only way they get it in. Julia, I sent you a screenshot and I was very cynical this morning, where the headline was that, Russ Fulcher has an opponent.
And the headline, listen to this is Russ Fulcher is on track to win another term representing Idaho in the House. His Democratic opponent is playing the long game. Okay, she's already conceded the race then. Yeah, which everyone knows Fulcher is going to win that race. My comment to you was that, oh. Hold on, I'll read it. Okay.
The you said the quote long game is to wait for ranked choice voting to be implemented, then load up the ballot with ours and still the seat. Yeah, that's the long game. The system. Yes. And that's the only way this person could get elected in Idaho, right? Any time soon. Okay. Let's, what do we have? We have about a minute.
Caller. Go ahead. Let me. Yes. Yep. Oh. I'm sorry. So I've been told this is to get open primaries. That's what they tell everybody. It's a chief tenet of their advertising. But are they actually giving us an open primary in which Democrats can vote in a Republican primary and Republicans can vote in a Democrat primary? Or is that doing away with the primaries?
It's doing away with the primaries as we know them. There will be no Democrat primary. There will be no Republican primary. It'll be one big jump. Advertising point is a lie. Absolutely. Yeah. Yes. They're they're not using the word primary the way we know primary that they're they've changed the definition of it without telling you they're changing the definition of it.
Oh thank you. Yeah. You're I know that frustration is real. We hear it. This is this is a battle. All right, quick break. It's 855. It's 858 on Newstalk 1079. Really quick. We have less than a minute here, so I do want to plug Julie our election night watch party. Why do I keep saying debate? Because we did a debate watch party.
And so it's just crossing over in your head. All right. We want you all to come. Just text the word ticket to (208) 542-1279. We'll send you the link back. Just submit your email in your name. We don't spam you. We don't sell your info. But we might contact you from time to time with a little bit of news or a newsletter, something like that.
But you'll get your ticket for the event coming up on election night and we want to see you there. Ticket (208) 542-1079. Our two coming up with welcome back. It's our two. It's 907 on Newstalk 1079 Neal Larson Julie Mason and Ed Julie. I still have the ribs. We ended up doing tacos soup over the weekend. I was because I was a bachelor.
I was going to do the ribs for Grand Peak's Prime Meats, but I, I guess the silver lining to not having the ribs is that they're still in the freezer, and I can use them. They're still in the freezer. Maybe that's your celebratory meal after Trump wins. Okay, so like late night, we get home from our our election night watch party and I broil up some ribs.
Yeah. Or the next day and you breakfast. You like, splash it all over social media. All right, look, I'm not opposed to that idea. Late night ribs are not a bad idea. Okay? GP Prime meats.com. If you go there, you can see not just the ribs. They've got all sorts of different cuts and packages and specials. You mentioned taco soup.
If you need a quick meal, they actually have a taco soup option there. Yeah. So in there they do these, crockpot meals so fast. We're a big fan of the fajitas that come in the crockpot. So you know what? There's something for everyone there. Prime news.com. Yeah. Okay, Julie, we're still waiting for Trump. They're Mar-A-Lago, they're in Palm Beach, they've got the podium shots up and we're just, does this feel a little different like this is sure.
I mean, CNN is running lower third. Like they're pretty sure it's going to be referencing what happened at the, Madison Square Garden rally with the comedian. I'm not sure that that's what it's going to be about. Maybe he will reference Madison Square Garden, but he's just going to talk about how it what an ugly thing it was that they likened it to a Nazi rally.
Yeah, maybe. So maybe that's what he's going to mention. Would it be a bad if this is me? This is impulsive, Neal. And sometimes that's not the best decision making criterion, I'll put it that way. But if what if he took the podium and he said, people need to toughen up. It was a comedian. It was a joke I would not have made.
But this is not the basis upon which you decide. The future of the country. I would totally be accepting of that. And I think the country's ready for that. I think they're tired of the lies. I think that's why JD Vance and Donald Trump on all of these podcasts, in a real conversation, not one that's chopped up, not one that's edited when those real conversations are happening.
I think that's been so winning for Trump and Vance. Yeah, because as a country, we're tired of it. Yeah. We just consume differently now. We consume via podcasts. We consume via live broadcasts. It's not this, you know, slick magazine, magazine journalism that 60 minutes is people don't do it that way anymore. I, you know that that's an icon.
60 minutes is an icon. Icons die. Yeah. It's just the reality. Yeah. And there's just a different news. Consumption in today's world. I think they're tired of it. Yeah. Well I, I, I am yeah I, I, I think more people are more resilient than we give them credit for. And our lives revolve around that thin sliver of snowflakes that we have in society.
Yeah. It's kind of kind of sad. Did we talk we haven't talked about the burning ballot boxes in Portland. That was crazy. That is crazy because I saw that story and I went, I could be there side, either side. I be doing this. Yeah. So I, I don't have an answer for anyone on what's going on there.
But yeah, it could be either side. So does that mean all the ballots that were inside got destroyed and now they're like, and I guess there were thousands. Wow. Wow. I mean, they were probably mostly Democrat ballots probably in Portland. So that's not me celebrating. I'm just recognizing I don't like directionally we just said the last hour I don't like gaming the system, burning the ballot boxes, gaming the system.
I don't like it. Yeah. And no matter which side did it. Yeah. It's not good. Yeah. No no it's not let's see got a lot of, texts that have come in. Yeah, 100% agree. Toughen up Buttercup. And someone said they got their third vote. Yes. Prop one flier yesterday. Not one, not one. No flier.
Yeah, I think they have a different approach. The no side. I'm not seeing many fliers that direction either, which is? I think that's okay. I think we, you know, with all of the digital options that you have today, you can reach people a lot of different ways. I think so too. And there clearly is a money difference. You need to remember that fliers are expensive.
Yes. Especially these glossy fliers they're putting out. And that money is not Bruce Nukem some money. It's dark money from out of Idaho. But Bruce's name is on there. Yeah, yeah. That's true, that's true. (208) 542-1079. If you'd like to join us on the program this morning, we could just take phone calls, Julie, until, Trump starts.
Okay, let's start talking. And, if you want to comment on prop one, we'd love to hear from you. You want to comment on the presidential race so they are, apparently there's this talk about Kamala Harris delivering her closing arguments for her campaign from the ellipse in, in Washington, just outside the white House. But I don't know.
I don't know what what do you think of that? I don't think it looks good for her because I think that that's one of her weakest points of her campaign is that she hasn't done anything the last three and a half years. I think she does like to stand behind the podium with the seal on it. I think that's really important to her.
And it's not a bad campaign strategy I would say that for, for other candidates, I think that that might be a winning strategy to always stand behind that, that, you know, the seal of the United States. However, she hasn't done anything for three and a half years. So by doing that, you might just be reminding everybody about what a failed person you are in your job for the last three and a half years.
Yeah, yeah, I, I and I would agree with that. A, a setting isn't getting elected. You're getting elected and you have failed over and over and over again in your job and as a candidate. And people, it's just one more opportunity to see that she's not worthy, nor is she ready. It's interesting. Julia, one little, point that I wanted to to point out and sort of the craziness of what we're seeing these last few weeks before the election.
We talked a week or two ago about someone in Idaho Falls on 17th Street, put up a sign that says Kamala Harris is an idiot. Okay, not very nice. We've had listeners say they wish people wouldn't do that. Right. And that's fine. I'm I'm more I'm a live and let live kind of guy. We live in a political season and people are going to say things.
But I did see on social media, you had a guy who's clearly on the left and he posted how horrible this was, like, it's terrible that what Trump supporters are doing and how terrible they are. So in the comments beneath his post, someone agreed with him and said, but we're dealing with morons. He liked it. Yeah, hypocrites out there.
You were just destroyed. Your entire point, about is there really any functional difference between calling Kamala Harris a moron and calling Trump supporter an idiot and calling Trump supporters a moron? There is no difference. But that's I mean, that's the political world we live in. And that's why I don't give these things any kind of. The person who called up this was a couple weeks ago so upset about that, saying, okay, your feelings are valid.
I just don't think those feelings are actually affecting everyone. Like, you think it's affecting everyone. Yeah, I think it's just baked into the cake. Now, whether you think that's good or bad, I'm not making the argument. I'm just reading the situation for what it is. Yeah. And I think it's just baked in there that we look at some of our politicians, we meaning the collective, we look at them and we think they're morons, we think they're idiots.
And so they're just voicing their opinion. Yeah, I wouldn't do it, but I don't think it I don't think it drives everyone away the way that some people might believe it does, because I just think it's part of the culture at this point. Well, I, I don't want to make anybody sad. I've reached kind of a point where I've, I've completed grieving the loss of polite society.
And I'm just recognizing what it is we live in right now. You and Spencer Cox can't be friends. We can't. We can't be like it. It's, I don't think we are going to resurrect polite society anytime soon. And so once you're, you're done grieving the loss of polite society, you. I'm actually it's almost it's not endearing.
That's that's the wrong word. But it's it's just part of the scene. It's part of the politics that we have where people are hashing it out, back and forth. It's part of America, I promise you, if you went back to elections 50 years ago, there were signs calling political opponents idiots like it. Just it's part of how we function in a political season.
I won't defend it, but I'll at least be mindful enough to acknowledge that's just the way it is now. Yeah, yeah. So (208) 542-1279 can I go to the phones? Hi caller. How are you? Good morning guys. How are you doing. Well doing well what's up I those ballot boxes that were burnt, there was one in Portland but it only had about five in it.
There was another one in Vancouver, Washington, that they were scraping the ballots out with a rake, that they were completely burnt up. Oh, wow. Okay. So somebody somebody is acting not very nice. Yeah. I'm sitting here right now waiting for my prime meat. Meat to be delivered. Yay! We enjoy that. We love. What did you order? Oh, whole chicken steaks, roast hamburger, spare ribs.
Good for you I love it, I cannot wait. I just ran out, so. Yeah, I'm anxious to get them in again. All right. You're going to you're going to have a great holiday season. Good for you. Oh I know okay. Thank you guys. All right. Thank you for the call I see I love that. Yeah I love that.
It's great. Yeah. Well everything we say about Jeep Ram means it's, 100% genuine. Yeah, it is really good. Yeah. Yeah, it is. It is really good. It is really good. So someone said my cousin lives in Portland and said many are voting for Trump and telling everyone publicly that they're not. Does that sound familiar, like 2016?
Yes, yes it does. And I think that, you know, we're seeing the the actual public polling, which is the people we know about the number of blacks and Latinos that are now pro-Trump. I bet you the numbers are even bigger. It's just that you have some people that are silent about it because maybe they're family, maybe their their work situation or something.
But I think we're going to have a lot of people quietly voting for for Trump. And maybe that might explain the ballot boxes. If there's been a big push for Republicans to vote early, which there kind of has been, then that if you're a leftist and you want to disenfranchize those people, you want to cheat, then you'd go to a ballot, ballot drop box.
Yeah. You would. They must be worried. Yeah, I think they are worried. And we are winning the early vote right now in big states. Georgia, in Pennsylvania, the early vote totals are coming in, and there has been a large increase in the amount of Republicans that are voting early. Yes. Okay. That's something to celebrate. But it could also dent into what is going to happen on actual Election Day.
Yeah. So we've got to be careful. And and I'm back to the you've got to get the people out who haven't voted in the last decade. That's the important vote. I think that's the the one that can be shifted. Yeah, yeah. Mobilize those voters. Let's go to our next caller. Good morning. Hi. How are you guys? Good, good.
What's up? Good. Hey, I know we're all talking about the election and Donald Trump, and we're waiting for show up, but I wanted to ask you is on a different note. My husband have brought us up over the weekend. East Idaho News had brought it up about a bullying issue that happened in Rigby. It was a video that, was posted all over social media and so ended up deciding to play.
I just was like, well, what precautions or why was didn't even find out, like what happened to the victim or to the perpetrator or the people that were reporting it like, you know, are they going to make a note of it? So like this doesn't continue to happen? Well, I first of all, a couple of things. President Trump is about to take the stage.
So we're going to let you go. We actually did talk about this earlier. But discipline issues among minors is always kept confidential. So we're probably not going to have the the results of that. But yeah, we got the text. Trump is on the stage. Our feet is a bit delayed here. But, he's, he's getting ready.
Let's let's tune in to see what, President Trump has to say. He's shaking a couple of hands as he, goes up. Also, Julie and I have been watching. We're going to keep our eye on CNN if this is a positive thing for Trump. They made that story. Here it is. I think the news conference takes cues and a is risky.
Okay. Let's find out what Trump will talk about. The nation's 45th president Donald Trump at Mar-A-Lago a news conference. It's like, let's watch it. Such great spirit. I want to start by saying it's going very well. There are some bad spots in Pennsylvania where, some serious things have been caught or in the process of being caught, but, the election itself is going very well.
We're leading, I believe, in all seven swing states.
So, I appreciate everybody's work, and the spirit is unbelievable. I don't think there's ever been anything like it in our country's history, frankly, because we want to see our country get better. And that's why we're here. Just to do a statement. And it's an honor to have some of our friends here in less than four years.
Kamala Harris has obliterated our borders, obliterated. We've never had a situation like this decimated the middle class. And runaway inflation has caused problems the likes of which we never thought possible. Bloodshed, squalor to our cities is common. And they've unleashed a war and chaos all over the world. You take a look. Everything's blowing up. We're getting ready to blow up.
No respect for our country anymore. No respect for our leadership. No person has caused so much destruction and death at home and abroad should ever be allowed to be the president of the United States. Can't have that. Can't have that.
So I'm running on a plan to save America. We're going to save America. We have no choice. It's the greatest there is. We love it, and we're going to save it. We have no choice, and it's going to be saving it from the incredible destruction that's been caused by Crooked Joe Biden and Kamala. And she's responsible because he wasn't responsible.
And she never said that. He didn't know too much about what was happening. Maybe that was exposed during the debate. And yet still, the way they took that away from him was not was not right. It wasn't right. Shouldn't have happened that way. They walked in, they said, we're taking it away. They took it. They stole the presidency of the United States.
You can call it a coup. You can call it whatever. But they stole. They went in like taking candy from a baby and, can't have that. And she's running on a campaign of demoralization and really a kind of a campaign of destruction. But really, perhaps more than anything else, it's a campaign of hate. She it's a campaign of absolute hate.
And, you know, I said yesterday that, she's a vessel. She is a vessel. It's a very big, powerful party with smart people. I have to be smart, but it's, vicious, the vicious. And they're perhaps even trying to destroy our country. Because who would want open borders where millions of people can flow in from prisons and from gangs?
Gangs. The worst gang members anywhere in the world. Who would want this for our country? Who would want, all of these transgender operations all over the place like it will even if you're in detention. I want to transgender. These are things she used to know. Who wants to defund the police? She's wanted her whole career to defund the police.
She only changed recently. She changed on 15 different items. Fracking. And she was against fracking at the highest level. Wouldn't even think about now all of a sudden, oh, I'd like fracking very much. But they changed after the election in about two minutes. And I think Pennsylvania understands that after two assassination attempts in just over three months, her lies and her slanders are very shameful and really inexcusable.
And I can say that if I were president and somebody was being threatened, openly threatened, like they've threatened me, I would say, if you do that, even if this was an opponent, an opponent who I disliked, if you do that, we will obliterate your entire country. And it would all stop. But they wouldn't make that statement. They will make us.
And essentially, that statement has been made by other presidents, even concerning their opponents. As you know, today we're going to talk about the real character of Kamala and, a person who has no remorse for the anguish she's inflicted upon families all across America. On the contrary, I have to tell you, Kamala intends to conflict and keep this misery going, and she's going to keep it going as long as she can, because that's the only way she can get elected.
She's going out and only criticizing, talking about Hitler and Nazi and because her records horrible. Her borders are the worst in the history of the world. There's never been a border in the world like this. I always say in third world countries, banana republics, they fight them away with sticks and stones. If they had to, we let them come in, come on in, knowing in many cases they're murderers, they're drug lords, they're they're traitors in so many ways to our country, if they were involved in our country at all, even that they're coming back in people that left because they were traitors and are coming back and everybody's coming back and and it's at
a level that we've never seen before, criminals off the streets. And, you know, other countries from where they're coming are now setting records, good records for them, where crime is down 70 and 75% because they're taking the criminals off the street. They're emptying their jails into our country, and they're not finished yet. They've got I'm amazed. I thought they would have done it by now, but they're if you take a look at Venezuela, their crime is way, way, way down.
Then you go to Caracas and you wouldn't recognize it. You can actually walk the streets without without being shot or killed or mugged. It's becoming a safe city because they've taken all their criminals. Most of them. The rest are coming. They're all coming. They've taken their drug dealers and they've put them into the United States of America. Thank you very much, Kamala.
I appreciate it. But she continues, and she will continue this misery and her policies have caused, such harm and such pain and the three great people up here with me are going to just discuss that for a little while about what's happened to them, how their lives have been shattered. I'd like to begin with the story of one mother whose life Kamala has utterly destroyed, destroyed this life.
And we're talking about thousands, thousands of people in very similar situations every day under Kamala, open border policies. She and of you remember Joe Biden appointed her as the borders are. She doesn't want to use that term, but let's say we'll just use different term. She was responsible for the borders, totally responsible. She never made one call to Border Patrol two weeks ago, the Border Patrol endorsed me with the most beautiful endorsement I think I've ever done.
And in all fairness, they've endorsed me every single year. But they've endorsed me again. And they, endorsing me, saying I was the best president we've ever had and the best president by far on the border.
They said that. They said that. And this is not easy for them to say. They said that she was easily the worst person ever to work with them on the border. Most incompetent, the least caring. Think of it. Not one call in almost four years was made to Border Patrol like, how are we doing? I used to call all the time.
I'd say, how are we doing, fellas? How's it going? Is it going well? And they're great people. Men and women, border patrol, great people. They want to do their job. She didn't call them once she released the two men who murdered this woman's very precious daughter. Everything you need to know about what happened and the character, the character of Kamala Harris, you'll know from just watching this video.
We had it done yesterday. Sorry. Very quick, very easy to do, but it was very heartbreaking. We showed it in a room full of people and everybody was just everybody was crying. Some pretty sad people were crying. Please take a look. Say Sunday night extra to not stay up super late because of her coming to work with me in the morning first to do her summer school.
She said, okay. I told her good night and I love you. I went to bed, not realizing that that was going to be the last time I saw her. We're best friends. Yes. I'm shaking again. I woke up to notice she wasn't in her bed. I'm in my heart, trying not to lose her mind because I don't know where she is.
I finally remembered her phone had a location on and her phone was pinging just two minutes down the road, right behind the skate park. I start driving to the direction the phone was being pinged up, and I see a couple cop cars with lights on. I see yellow tape and immediately my heart drops and sinks to the bottom.
My stomach, my daughter's hands and ankles were both bound. She was strangled to death with left with no pants. And I know and my heart. She fought incredibly hard. She was not going down without a fight.
We begin with two men. We're learning are charged with capital murder tonight. Accused of killing a 12 year old girl. Police say these men strangled her before dumping her into that creek. Both men were in the country illegally apprehended, then released by Border patrol less than three weeks before Jocelyn's death. The man accused of killing Jocelyn Gray are affiliated with the gang.
Known for brutal violence. Kamala Harris was in charge of immigration and our borders. If we had better border policies and not open borders and not these catch and release policies. I truly believe this all could have been prevented under her being vice president of this country. My daughter's life was ripped away from her. She had her entire life unfettered.
Better when they did. I mean, my daughter is six feet in the ground based off of policies that she allowed to keep. Kamala Harris did have one job, and she not only failed, not me. She felt my daughter. She felt Jocelyn, I gave you my name. She was only 12. President Trump reached out, gave me his sincerest condolences as not a former president for this.
I'm a father, someone who cares. I believe Donald Trump needs to be back in office. I can at least know that my next child will be safe in this country.
Wow. Very moving there. The former president continued. So I know we talk about inflation and the economy, but there's to me, there's nothing nothing more important than the fabric of our country being destroyed by people placed there, violently placed there, as far as I'm concerned. Foolishly, stupidly placed there. I think what's happening on the border is the single biggest issue, and I'm seeing it more and more when I speak.
I see it more with inflation is terrible. It's hurting our country. It's just just decimating our seniors. That's why I talk about Social Security, no tax for our seniors on Social Security because they've been decimated, but they've been decimated by inflation. But what Kamala did to Jocelyn and her family is the most heartless and cold blooded betrayal imaginable.
Thousands of cases just like that. Thousands in throwing open the border. Think of it open borders. They come in from parts unknown. People have no idea who they are, where they're from, anything about them. They know nothing. They just walk into our country. And as soon as I heard they were doing that, I said, well, I know these countries.
I know every one of the leaders of all these different countries. They're very smart, they're very sharp, they're very streetwise. They said, I know what they're going to do. They're going to open up their jails and just dump them into the United States. And that's what happened. They opened up their jails and some of the most ruthless killers in the world are now roaming our fields and our streets all over the United States.
I knew that was going to happen, and I would do the same thing if I were running one of those many countries that we're talking about, and not just the 3 or 4 that we constantly mention that are near us all over South America, all over the Middle East, all over Asia, all over Europe, all over Africa. Tremendous numbers of people are coming out of Africa, and they're coming from all over the world.
They're dumping them at our border, pushing them across the line and say, don't ever come back. If you come back, we're going to kill you, and we're stuck with them, but we're not going to be stuck with them for long.
So Kamala violated her. She desecrated our laws, and she got innocent girls like Jocelyn tortured and killed anyone who knowingly sets loose these monsters into our country has absolutely no right to be running for office, let alone the office of president. No.
So here today is another great person, an American mom, Tammy Nobles. Two years ago, Tammy's 20 year old daughter, Kayla Hamilton, who had an autism diagnosis, was found raped. It is 938 on Newstalk 179 and, President Trump, of course, hitting some very familiar themes. Julie, that produced video. The mom who lost her daughter to illegals was so compelling.
Yes. Heart wrenching. I think that this is such a wise move by President Trump. He has basically six days and immigration is a winning issue to close out their campaign hitting on immigration. Brilliant. Yeah. Yeah, I think it is too. Sadly, we're up against some unavoidable commercial breaks that we have to take, but we will continue up ahead.
We'll continue to monitor former President Trump's remarks from Mar-A-Lago, and we'll let you know more of what he says here on Newstalk 179. We can actually play this. Yeah, we can play it for you guys. Facebook Live did not do their job. The Biden-Harris administration did not do their job. If they would have done their job, made that one phone call to El Salvador.
My daughter would still be alive today. Kayla was a very beautiful young lady, inside and out. She was independent, learning to become independent. She had two jobs. She overcame obstacles dealing with autism and was able to find a job that she loved. She loved animals, especially her cat Oreo, and she cared about the homeless. She loved God and she loved going to church and her life was just ripped from her.
Three days after she celebrated her 20th birthday. Thank you for having me here today.
Thank you Tim, and we will not forget Kayla and she is looking down. She's very proud of mom Kamala's cruel and immoral actions on our border are actually disqualifying my opinion. She's unfit. She's an unfit person, and she knows this is going on. She never called anybody, including the 13 soldiers that were so needlessly killed in Afghanistan with that horrible and horrible moment in time where our country was just lost all respect from the whole world when they saw that.
That's one of the reasons that Putin, when he would have never gone and ever he wouldn't have gone in our president. He would have never gone in. I ended his pipeline in Europe. No problem. And what happened? Biden comes in, he pulls it right away, but he kills the Keystone pipeline. Putin never would have come in. And he didn't, by the way, for four years.
There was never a threat that he was going to do that. But he saw a weakness. And I think a lot of it was seen in that horrible, that horrible period of time. She is also aiding and abetting the cartels, allowing vast quantities of deadly drugs to pour unchecked into our country. And remember this, they now have an app you call the app, and you bring whatever you want.
You bring them over, they'll tell you exactly. Can you believe it? They have an app and they have airplanes. Big, beautiful Boeing airplanes flying back and forth over a border. They were saying, where are those planes coming from? Where are they going? They were loaded up with migrants dropping them out in the Midwest. They're dropping them all over the place.
And I will tell you, if you look at, Aurora in Colorado or in Springfield in Ohio, in Ohio, they dropped 32,000 illegal aliens. They tried to give them legal terminology, but it's not illegal aliens 32,000 into a 50,000 person town. Beautiful town, no problems. And now they don't know what to do. And they want to be nice.
And the mayor wants to be nice. His big thing is to get interpreters. They don't speak English. It's very hard to get interpreters, and he's trying to get interpreters, but in the meantime they're taking up the hospitals. So when people from Springfield would routinely be able to check with a doctor or go to a hospital, they're unable to get in their packed.
The whole town has changed. And this is happening all over our country. Aurora probably is an even worse situation because you have the meanest, worst gang from Venezuela in the world. Probably. Maybe as bad or worse than Ms13. And they've literally taken over the town. They've taken over large sections of the town. They've gone into the real estate business, they've taken over apartment complex.
They took over a number of complexes where the people are paying them rent. It become the landlord. Isn't that nice? And they're rough, tough people and they have the latest weapons, they have military quality weapons. And everyone say, where did they get them? Gotta get them out of here. We're going to get them out fast. We're going to get them out.
So today I'm announcing that for the first time under my administration, we will be seizing the assets of the criminal gangs and drug cartels.
And we will use those assets to create a compensation fund to provide restitution for the victims of migrant crime. And the government will help in the restoration. The government will help in the restitution. But something has to be done. And we're going to we're going to get it done. Kamala has also caused untold misery through her destruction of our economy.
Our economy is not this. It's just like a fake economy where some of the best, some of the best people on Wall Street are saying the economy is only good because they think, I don't want to say this because other people have said it. That's not me saying it, but they think Trump is going to get elected. That's the only reason I got and that's the only reason the stock market is up.
Scott is here, I think, someplace, and he's one of the most respected people on Wall Street. He's been he's actually made a very big point of it that the stock market is only doing well because of the fact that they think Trump is going to win the election. So, he also. But Kamala cast the deciding votes that caused the worst inflation in our lifetime, maybe the worst inflation we've ever had, because I don't think they're I mean, I know for a fact they're not adding all of the numbers.
If they did, I think it's the worst inflation probably in the lifetime of the country. And it's costing typical American families over $30,000. Nearly half of Americans now say they're broke. Think of that. Half of Americans are saying that broke. They have no money. Two thirds say they're living from paycheck to paycheck. Hey, we're back. 945 on Newstalk 107I Neal, I sent along with Julie Mason.
President Trump continues to talk about immigration, also announcing a policy of seizing the assets of criminal, gangs and then using those assets to, to give to the families of people who've been lost at the hands of of, illegal migrants. Yeah. Benefit the families. While we were at Commercial break, another mother of a victim spoke very briefly and just talked about how sad her situation has been and how let down she was by her country with her child being a victim of an illegal immigrant, madam, you know, being a criminal with her child.
So I think this is such a smart move by Trump. I he is doing a very Trump thing here. The news conference is getting long. That's very Trump. Yeah. People are just used to it at this point. But he's doing some, some very valuable, pointing out of how destructive this border policy has been under the Biden-Harris administration.
I just as a media note, Julie, it's interesting CNN cut away they did not play that powerful ad. The piece about the mom who lost the daughter, ABC news has actually stuck with it. So anyway, let's let's tune back in for just a little bit. I do want to warn the listeners, we are going to have to take one more commercial break coming up in about five, 5 or 6 minutes.
So here's, President Trump once again, the kind of up here today is Michael Coppi, a small business owner who runs a dry cleaner and is struggling to get by because of what Kamala has done to his business. They've they've destroyed small businesses in this country. Michael place.
I just want to say thank you, Mr. President, for affording me the opportunity and the high honor of joining you here today and sharing my small business story with you folks and the American people. So it's, a chain of eco friendly dry cleaners throughout the tri county here in West Palm. And, it seems not too long ago, just a few years, the customer and us, the small business owner, we were able to keep up with inflation.
There were resources available to us for expansion. Or if you had a bad month, you know, if there was something you needed to make up for, it seemed like the support was there. And now, just a few short years later, it seems like all of those resources, have dried up, the supports no longer there.
We had an expansion plan, about six years ago, that we had to pause because we have to wait for our customers now to catch up with, the inflation, the supply chain issues. Still, because we as a small business, we can't double our price points. Although the cost of doing business now is to 3 or 4 times what it was just a few years ago.
So we've had to get creative. Our industry, probably 30% in the dry cleaning industry, never survive Covid. And just recently this summer, I was contacted my wife and I by another local dry cleaner here in West Palm. They were asking advice, so husband and wife been there for about 35 years. Their lease was up and the landlord was doubling their rent, which would have meant that that's what they've been paying themselves for.
Probably a better part of 20 years. So they had to make a decision. Do they hand the keys back or do we get creative work together, pool resources? And so what we did was we figured out the right price point for them, but we did their cleaning for them, at least until we figured it out. And so they were not able to pay their operations.
They couldn't keep that going. But they were able to save their business by strategically partnering. And by the end of summer, I think I was contacted by about 12 other local dry cleaners saying, can you guys help us also because we're going through the same thing. Thank you. And it and it seems now. So the the delta between the reality of what inflation is right now and we have in front of us the reality of that and the small business owners capabilities, that delta is too great.
So unless we effect change immediate. Lee, I fear that in the next few years, if we don't see that change, we might see another 30% of our industry and others, no longer exist. So I just want to say thank you again, Mr. President, for allowing me to share my go green dry cleaners story. And, thank you.
Thank you very much. We really helped a lot of people during the prime time of the China virus, and we helped a lot of people, and we did it intelligently. Then when they took over, they just threw money around like it was dirt. And as you know, the recent monster Hurricane Helene just wiped out so much. If you look at the different states North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, it was, just devastating, devastating.
And the response was the worst since it's since, Katrina. All right. We are going to have to take a commercial break here in in just a moment. But, now it would be a good time, Julie, to plug a couple of Trump trains going on this weekend. All right, let's start with the one that's in Idaho Falls.
Representative Barb, iHeart and sun Kiss Enterprises. You might know them as Sunkist Towing, but their official name is Sunkist Enterprises. They've joined efforts. They are going to do the East Idaho Trump train. That will be this Saturday starting at Freeman Park. And I'm going to read their their post directly. It says if you support Trump and want to get involved, please click on the link and select going.
More importantly, please share this event on Facebook and with your friends and family. We welcome anyone to watch along the route and join the train. We'll have trucks, semi trucks, sports cars and classic cars. All are welcome. This will be a family friendly event that is civil and respectful. We are coordinating with local police departments to ensure a safe experience for everyone.
If you just go to Sun Kiss Enterprises, Sunkist Enterprises, you will find this post. And there's a there's a link right there to find out more information about the Trump train that's happening this Saturday. There's another Trump train, in Bingham County, and that will start at 1 p.m. at the Shelley High School parking lot. And then they'll take the old highway leaving Shelley.
They'll go south through first Blackfoot, then onto highway 39. That will take them through through Riverside, Rockford, Pingree, Springfield, all the way to Aberdeen. It's my old stomping tigers. And, by the way, they will have three by five foot trump flags available for 15 bucks. If you want to get a Trump flag. That's not a that's pretty affordable.
You, that Saturday, November 2nd at 1 p.m. again, Shelley high School, 1 p.m. is when they do the line up and, I can I give out a name and number I think so, I mean, okay, if it's on social media, yes. Do it. Well, it's it was a private message. I'm going to give it out.
Okay. I think should be fine with it. You can call Lisa for more information if you're interested in the Bingham County Trump train. (208)705-6879. That's (208)705-6879. So. Okay. We have got to, break, take our final, break here on this Tuesday morning on Newstalk 179. Oh, wow, a crazy hour. It is kind of a crazy hour.
Why don't you look at, the second text? At least that's the one that I. It's showing up for. I saw that, yeah. That's kind of interesting, isn't it? Yeah. Wouldn't surprise me, though. No, I don't I don't believe the last half of this text that minds are being changed, but a I'm actually wondering if it's a coordination between the conversation we had on Friday.
They're taking turns monitoring what's going on. Oh, that could be. Yeah, that could be. We have to be very careful what we say here at this point. Oh, I got it. Oh, we got to separate these two and then this. Yikes. You know what I mean? Yikes. There we go. Zoinks! So it's.
My grandson's a big fan of Scooby Doo. He likes spooky shows. Oh, good. But he doesn't say. Scooby says it's spooky. Spooky? Spooky shows. It's funny. I always like the the word spooky. He also now, after watching Addams Family, pretends to be the hand all the time. So he's his hand is walking everywhere.
Oh, how fun is that? Now we have a gold star mom speaking. This is a great. It's a great move. This is a super good move by Trump. I it'll be interesting to watch I mean, I don't know singular events move the needle a little bit, but this feels like Trump for the last several weeks has just been rolling.
And they're trying to slow him down with the Nazi thing. And comedian talent and offensive joke I mean I don't know it's it's just it's just crazy I but I he's just rolling and they can't stop him. The thing about the Hitler conversation that they tried to push for about five days and they're backing off of it, by the way, because their internal polling showed that it was bad.
It's not working. Yeah. It was just so hateful. Yeah. And you couldn't draw those kind of parallels between somebody there had been DNC held at the Madison Square Garden there. He's holding a rally. There are Palestinian flags. Oh, yeah. And or Israel flags and Palestine, like, there were flags everywhere for people. You have Muslim leaders in Dearborn, Michigan endorsing Trump.
Like you can't claim that he is. He's the party of hate. You can't do it. No, you I it just was a real bad look for them to go that direction. But they're grasping at straws. Yeah. Campaign hasn't turned out the way they want to. I, I agree with you that I felt that you said earlier today that Obama's kind of phoning it in.
I think he is. Yeah, he's they're doing his thing, but he's kind of phoning it in. Walls is a train wreck. Oh he is a he's as bad as, as Kamala just in different ways. It like it has been a rough three weeks for them. Here we go. 958 on Newstalk 107 Neal Low Larson along with Julie Mason.
Again, we want to invite you to our election Night watch party. It's the big shindig. It's the big thing going down. It's the hot ticket in town. How many different names can I get to? Just keep the roll at home. Yeah, okay. But we want you to join us. The easiest thing to do is text the word ticket to (208)542-1079.
We'll send you a link back. We just need your name. And your email address will send you your ticket for your entire group. Right there in your inbox. That easy? Yeah, it'll be great. We're going to have local politicians there. We are working with our our, like, Senator Crapo. Senator ish. They'll be talking via like, zoom, zoom.
There we go. All right. We'll see you all tomorrow.
